The Advantage of Starting Scrawny
For all my Skinny boys (and girls) out there. Here's my perspective on why it's actually a much better place to start with for fitness and body building. Not that you have much of a say in the matter.
I filmed a little basement workout for some B-roll. First time barbell benching in over a year because of a shoulder injury.

R3D codec and 16bit Raw internal… I tried shooting with cheaper with Sony FX3 and Limix S1H but it cost more money because post production took longer and had more finicky issues to deal with… all I gotta say is I switched back to RED with the quickness. Post production and efficiency of editing time with the R3D is unmatched. Also the image quality is beyond them esp with skin tones

  • @DavinciHD_

For me personally. I’ve been on mirrorless for a long time but I want the flexibility of the R3D codec. Every other codec I’ve worked is just super annoying at this point. It’s not to say the mirrorless doesn’t have a place in my workflow but I’m definitely moving to RED.

I would probably take the Sam Ovens approach, something he calls the market backwards approach. So what it is, go and talk to a group of people that have something that you’re interested in. It could be a sport, or a hobby, and then ask as many people as you can, what problems they’re facing, and what problems aren’t really being solved by other people. then I would figure out what I need to do to solve those problems and create a product or service that solves that problem.

But aside from that, I agree completely. Lighting and composition are everything when it comes to the technical side. But if you don't have a solid script, you might as well not even turn the camera on. Pre-production and story is 80% of what makes a video good.

Most likely not since we mainly do weddings. But, If you're referring to the Komodo, then I would still say no. It's definitely a lot smaller and more usable than the scarlet-w was. I used the original Komodo a few years back on some music videos. Is there any new cameras from Red? I haven't really paid much attention lately. @@thaddeusswift Man, you have a great deal of focus, because a lot has changed in the last year - and a lot in the last three months! 1. All cameras above the Komodo (i.e. Komodo-X, V-Raptor, V-Raptor X) now use CFExpress type B cards - no proprietary storage. 2. Autofocus has come a long way 3. They are square and very modular (very run and gun friendly) 4. Boot up is much faster 5. Black shading is much much faster. Now!! The V-Raptor X is GLOBAL SHUTTER VV SENSOR 120fps! Absolutely no degradation in dynamic range - and get this: New Enhanced Highlights mode increases dynamic range by +4 stops (BETTER THAN THE ARRI ALEXA 35!!!) - all for 29k !! AND EH Mode is NON-Destructive meaning you can turn it off in post! Essentially, it’s the best camera ever made by human beings. Jarred Land called it his retirement camera! When I first started my proffesional video career, I heard everywhere that pros use SLOG and I'd have to learn how to use it if I wanted to maximize the quality of my work blah blah blah. I tried SLOG and it just never stuck. Even after learning Lumetri Scopes in Premiere and trying different Rec709 conversion grades and LUTs and everything else... it was never really that noticeably different IMO. I always thought it was overhyped. The workload is simply not worth it to me. Even if the image was better, I am responsible for training people how to utilize this camera equipment. Most newcomers aren't going to adapt to that workflow. Not worth it for my workflow.

But for the convenience of autofocus and everything else it wouldn’t be anything someone could tell without doing a direct side by side comparison and pixel peeping, especially after a little bit of grading. The reason why it plays back faster even though it’s raw is because your computer doesn’t have to “uncompress” it to play it so it saves on computing power and time. H264 is very compressed so tends to play back laggy. That’s just where optimization comes in play. That’s why most people transcode to DNXHD or ProRes for editorial because playback is faster. Especially DNXHD or DNXHR for Avid in an MXF wrapper because that’s more native for avid than other codecs and is the standard offline intermediate format. Gets a little more complicated than that but that’s the basics boiled down. Try realtime playback of 6k h264 footage in a .mp4 wrapper and try playing back 8k footage in a DNXHR codec in a .MXF wrapper and see which is faster.
