Migrating to a Larger Disk with Rémy
Disk usage is a constant concern for stakers and node operators. The blockchain data keeps growing each day with new transactions and states to store. Stakers and node operators are mainly those responsible for storing this data. During the life of a staker or a node operator, it is likely that you will need more space for this concern. Migrating to a larger disk might become the last solution for some.
This video tutorial is meant for people with little or no experience migrating to a larger disk. It will show you step by step how to check your disk usage, which solutions are possible to manage disk usage, which tools you will need to migrate to a larger disk, and the process of migrating to a larger disk. It will assume you are using a modern Linux distribution to run your staker or node operating system. Many of these instructions and steps are possible on Windows or macOS, but this is out of scope for this video tutorial.
You can find the written guide on github.com/eth-educators/ethstaker-guides/blob/main/migrating-to-a-larger-disk.md

    The vanilla stakers are carrying Ethereum's censorship resistance currently. I know there are non censoring relays, but they are still trusted. I feel vanilla stakers should eventually stop losing out on MEV. 👍

    To actually change my withdrawal address and leave the validator, does it only have to be on the Ethereum network, or can I also do it on the Goerli network?

    Merci beaucoup for the explanation. Greatly appreciated. ❤ I am finally about to setup my withdrawal address for my Validator. I have a few questions: * let’s say someone has multiple validators , would you set up the same withdrawal address for all of them, bunch them in sets of 2 or 3 or each nodes to have its own withdrawal address * Also wondering the best way to set up the withdrawal address. I am on the fence as to use a cold storage address like Ledger. Would I be better off to create a wallet with like MEW for example so I have the private key/JSON file. Or would the safest be to use a multisig wallet. Or maybe other ways that I haven’t think of or unaware of. * Last but not least, once the withdrawal address is set up, will anything over 32ETH be automatically be transferred to the withdrawal address without fees? I know it transfers the extra every 7days or so without fees but what about the first time after setup?

    Is it recommended add 2TB to current 2TB and merge it to one drive? Or it is not worth the risk?

    • @EthStaker
      @EthStaker 6 หลายเดือนก่อน

      If you are using something like LVM, it's somewhat easy to add another 2 TB SSD and expand your logical volume to gain more space. The written guide has a small section on this. It comes with the additional risk of a potential second disk failure. If you have 2 disks, the chance of disk failure is higher if you depend on both disks at the same time. The pro with such a solution is a small downtime. I would favor using a single disk but the difference is probably marginal for many.

    Hi and thank you very much for the great video for beginners. I started planning and gathering hardware for the validator node. My thinking is that if the initial capital of 32th needs to be placed somewhere, then 10% of its value should be placed in hardware. I decided on a Dell PowerEdge R630 2 x E5-2670 v3 @ 2.30GHz 2 x 16GB 2Rx4 PC4-2133P-RA0-10 2 x 750W redundant PSU Dell UPS 2700W Gasoline generator 4.5KW broadband internet and mobile internet for backup all that's left for me is to choose the ssd My problem is which ssd is wise to use and is it better 2 x 4tb one in the machine and the other new in the box ready for replacement or 4 x 4tb in RAID10? And of course, which 4tb ssd do you recommend that has been shown and proven? Thank you all and once again the video is excellent and helpful.
