Jeannette Mcdonald & Aunt Gida sing Some of these days...From Rosemarie
Ahh the good old days, when the women were young and the men were young all could dance like CRAZY! I wonder how many takes it took for Busby Berkeley to capture this masterpiece?
I could watch Vera dance ALL DAY
Thank you for posting this scene! The warehouse I work with keeps warning people about not keeping their hair long so I can identify with this scene. At the end, Fred Brady's performance as Judd reminds me a lot of Eddie Bracken. And Jean Rogers was a fine actress but was unappreciated by the studios she worked for, unfortunately.
Man, Ruby Keeler could dance - and what legs!
Benny was born to play a ham actor starring in Hamlet.
Shut up with the nonsense, please.
Club Royal seated only two, but the cover charge must have been murder!
One of the very most beautiful tunes there ever was.
Magnifique. J'adore. ❤️🎼🎶🎵❤️🇨🇵
Does anyone know who wrote this song?. I watched most of the film and it doesn't seem to have credited the songwriters. Thank you for posting!

Wonderful movie! One of my favorites! I loved Joan Blondell!! Dick Powell was great with her! Wish they stayed married. He ended up marrying June Alison. I liked her too!
two things stand out in this film -the song -Lonely Lane - and a bit part role for John Wayne

Some Early-Musical Movie Magic by the masterful Busby Berkeley! Musicals have come a long way in 6y (iirc, the first cracks at musicals were in ‘29?!?)…Stunning camerawork, dancing and of course, singing by Ms. Shaw.

Then Luis Alberni shows up...the besr..
Little known fact a young John Wayne was an unbilled bit part in this film
His musicals still amaze me, no matter how many times I've seen them!
I love the song “Frankie and Johnny” played by the group in the background. I would love to know who the singers / group are here, they’re brilliant. All I could find online was on IMDb where it stated: “Played on a guitar and sung by the crew on Dan's barge”.
Anyone have any info on that group?
Why cut it there??? You missed the best part! Boooo!!!?
This role and script for Gail Patrick is enough to make me fall in love with her ten times over.
So-called "Kay Francis" wasn't even her real name. She was born Katharine Edwina Gibbs. Apparently she changed her birth name as the result of pressure by 'Hollywood' Moguls & Studios?! Allowing their deceit, misrepresentation, anticipated greater recognition & love for the almighty buck, shows disrespect of family name & heritage.

Aunt Gilda
I find this extremely interesting, given the heavy "war"/ military / patriotism propaganda in this film when it's release date was September 25, 1941, 3 months before Pear Harbor, and our entry to WW2. It's like they were programing men to join the Army.
Pre-code movies are the best, especially when they involve giving out joints.
I love Kay Francis movies from the pre-code Thirties. Especially Jewel Robbery and the bath and massage scenes. Kay Francis was a beautiful woman who was not only tall (about 5'9") but photographed extremely well. Her dark hair and blues sparkled on celluloid in films and photos. Thanks a million for showing that scene from Jewel Robbery.
Was this Judy Garland's first film? She looks so young. Such an amazing powerful singing voice at such a young age.
"Oh look at the nasty little cur"😂
What. A. Talent!
I know it was a different time and I was a young boy who was raised in the '50s and '60s, but it must have been the "thing" or fashion back then that all women were flat chested and looked like boys ! I was used to Marilyn Monroe, Elizabeth Taylor, Sophia Loren, and Gina Lolabridgida ! Thank God ! On another note, I know it's more like real life, but a film without a music score playing in the background sure is dull and boring ! I guess it's just all about what you've gotten accustomed to ! 😂😂😂
Those hot pants are so beautiful, and right as the depression swallowed the economy; fabulous.
Alternate Title: I Watch Musicals for the Plot
Gary Cooper is absolutely lovable.
Interesting that Virginia Dale here is the complete opposite of when Astaire danced Begin the Beguine with Eleanor Powell. For almost this entire dance Astaire and Dale are in the social dance position known as the closed position, while Astaire and Powell are roughly using a challenge position, either facing each other or the camera.s
The guys adjusting the binoculars without missing a beat are priceless.
Incredibly done with no cuts.
