    IMO, history's most impactful battles were Thermopylae in Greece and Tours in France. Both battles were the result of one man stepping into the breach. Had King Leonidas not led his personal guard of Spartans toward Thermopylae, the other 7000 Greeks would probably not have joined the Spartans at The Gates. The critical factor in the importance of Thermopylae is that it allowed the Athenians the time needed to gather their fleet and sail for Salamis, where they destroyed Xerxes supply fleet, forcing the Persians to abandon their attempted conquest. Had Xerxes succeeded, Athenian democracy would have been strangled in its crib and Rome could not have embraced Greek logic and reasoned argument. That later led to the enlightenment and to the philosophical precepts that led to the US Constitution. Had the United States not existed, there would have been no force capable of withstanding the Soviet Union. Charles Martel, 'the Hammer' stopped the Muslim invasion of Europe. Up till Tours, Islam's advancement seemed unstoppable and Islam's precepts command world domination. Had Martel not led and won at Tours, the enlightenment would never have happened because Islam views enlightenment values as an abomination.

    Olmec means old Mexican

    • @OfficialRift
      @OfficialRift 18 วันที่ผ่านมา

      No, the term "Olmec" does not mean "old Mexican." The name "Olmec" is derived from the Nahuatl word "Olmeca," which refers to the people who lived in the Gulf Coast region of what is now Mexico. The word itself likely comes from "olmecatl," meaning "rubber people," referring to the rubber production associated with their culture. The Olmecs are considered one of the earliest major Mesoamerican civilizations, and they flourished roughly from 1200 BCE to 400 BCE, long before the concept of "Mexico" as a country existed.
