Hygge Journey
Portugal
เข้าร่วมเมื่อ 29 มี.ค. 2021
We are a mixed family (Danish 🇩🇰 and British 🇬🇧 / Jamaican 🇯🇲) living in Portugal. We have decided to escape the hectic city living in London for a much calmer more enjoyable life here in Portugal with our young children.
We’d love to bring you along on our journey of exploring an alternative ‘hygge’ way to live. A life we simply would not have been able to live in London or Copenhagen. Our channel is about lifestyle, travel, ex-pat tips, and family life here in Portugal.
We will cover a range of topics to help others who are thinking about visiting or living in Portugal. Our channel is Hygge Journey. ‘Hygge’ is a famous Danish word meaning, cosy, comfortable and happy!
Thank you so much 😊

Top 7 Reasons Why We Moved To Lisbon, Portugal From London, UK
Basically if you want to get things done you need a lot of patience. I left Brazil because the corruption, crime and frustration when I need things to be accomplished. In Portugal at least there is hardly any crime and less corruption.
Yes this was helpful Info... thank-you. All the apps I've tried require writing/spelling practise. To start on a beginner level, I like udemy.
Great information thx.
She is beautiful 😊😊😊
Choco and yogurt ❤❤❤❤
Ve u left Portugal?
The title of this video is good for my needs, i hope the content is the same!
Great video!! Do you have recommendations for things to do with young children in late summer/early fall?
Is there a Lack .of trades and trade schools?
The Portuguese have a good word for those who leave, Adeus!
Obrigado 🤣
Thanks guys for this wonderful video. I'm moving to portugal soon and i'm shaking in my boots!!! OMG
What was the reason the insurance company gave for not covering your maternity care? Do you have to stay in Portugal for a certain amount of time before private health insurance companies will cover maternity care?
If you can not save in the country with much lowquality of life, what's the point for moving there?🎉🎉🎉
I guess some people move for a change, sun etc.
Lovely People txs, hope to be back in Portugal soon again
Well, you can't expect to find paradise in Portugal (or anywhere). If you're not certain of what you want simply don't come. And by the way, do learn Portuguese...
Oh we know what we want and what we like. But I do for sure think many people are misselling what the country is - which has a bad effect on Portugal as well, as it drives house prices, flight tickets etc up to crazy numbers. However, this is not Portugal exclusive... People do the same with Spain, Dubai etc etc... However, I think it's important to understand the local culture before you jump in and move to a country with your entire family. I myself, have done from Denmark -> Sweden -> The Phillippines -> Sweden -> London -> Spain -> UK Country side -> Portugal. So I try to share the knowledge gathered on the journey :-)
You haven't spoken about retirees in this video. Do you have a video about the retiree experience in Portugal?
Sorry we are not at that age yet :) Would be most concerned about the healthcare.. but look for other channels that focuses on this
The intro is far too long and awful music.
Your video is very insightful, immensely useful and is a perfect analysis of almost all variables of moving to Portugal 👏👍👌💯 Great work and thanks a ton for the wonderful compilation 🙌
Thank you for the tips. Does the aquarium still have the giant pacific octopus? Awe'll be in Lisbon in July and my 6 yo is obsessed with octopi, it would make his trip to see one.
❤
Thank you so much for taking the time and effort to do this. 🙂
Congratulations
Much appreciation for sharing.
Glad you enjoyed :)
Born and raised homestead Alaska 1950s, dirt road, no electricity. Grocery store smaller than most any home in US! But lady I married is from Montana so we've been here 10 years N E corner, very slow making new friends, everyone has their own busy circle in life!
Don t go to Portugal, you will never want to leave
Haha we are in the opposite situation.
so what is the game for Brits to get here as I came under the Anglo Portuguese accord as my friend has bought a house here and is having great trouble getting a visa for his wife. So would appreciate any help you can offer. Also Why is the E.E.C. making it so difficult for tourists to visit when it s bread and butter for all southern Eurpean countries, but they are putting horse before the cart in my book and already know friends who have gone elsewhere for their hols because of their stupidity.
The biggest nightmare in Portugal is the bureaucracy!
Same in Spain..
Thank you
One of our good TH-cam friends has recently made this video: th-cam.com/video/I6dG1dVbn4g/w-d-xo.html He is providing good views to this conversation as well. Worth a watch. @RafaelDiFuria
Too many Americans is the only reason I’m reconsidering moving to portugal
Date the country by spending lots of time in it before moving. One of our friends has just made this video: th-cam.com/video/I6dG1dVbn4g/w-d-xo.html Also many good perspectives that we didn't have.
@@HyggeJourney thanks. . Was married to a Portuguese girl for 16 years , sadly whilst I was I didn’t apply for dual citizenship . Gutted I didn’t now
They came in because they thought it was cheap! No!!! Go for the right reasons!
We didn't just come here because we thought it was cheap... But we never anticipated that some things are 2-3x of what they would cost in London. And I never anticipated to move to one of the poorest economies in EU, to a small village and pay more than what it cost to live in London. On top of the price, many other things showed up that we didn't anticipate. And guess what, we made about 20 videos to cover these things - so others don't have to make the mistakes we made. :-) We have made many lovely friends in Portugal that we feel very warm towards. But the country didn't match what we needed. So we are not going to stay for the long term.
I have a request to you. Can you please solve the following portuguese exercise. It is from the pptonline.acm.gov.pt/students/exercises A2 Module 7 grammar exercise Há duas semanas, (nós/fazer) ......uma viagem ao Algarve e (nós/encontrar) ........com os nossos amigos. Eles (levar) .........a lugares muito bonitos. (pretérito perfeito indicativo)
Congrats!
Takker 🙏
Super helpful video thank you :)
Glad it was helpful! 🙏
Do you think Portugal is a more beautiful country than England? And do you think Portuguese food taste better than British food?
Neither of them are that healthy… we are both very much into health food, low calories and organic stuff… so we are not choosing a country based on the food :) I think both UK and Portugal has incredible natural beauty… as well as areas there is completely run down 😥
If people from Denmark and the UK are saying that Portugal is expensive for visiting families, it must be really expensive
The combined cost is yes. Supermarkets are much more expensive in Portugal than UK for an example. Most of the time the airfares cost more than going from UK to US even just within Europe.. So you can find a scenario that looks cheap, but the reality of a busy life is that the price tag is high. Portugal is also not a place you do anything without planning ahead... So lets say you want to do a trip with 2 weeks notice the price can be insane.
you not posting anymore ?
We will probably do soon. But we only post if we have something to tell and we have the time for it. This is more a hobby for us than anything else :-) What would you like to know?
I'm 53 and British, My father moved our family to Portugal (Algoz, Armação de Pera) in 1988 when I was seventeen and I learned how to speak Portuguese fluently over the course of four years as I was working in construction and my work colleagues were immensely helpful in teaching me how to speak Portuguese. We had to leave Portugal as my father and I were put out of work in the start of 1992 and my fathers dream of building a property stagnated as he couldn't get building permission. My tip to anyone wanting to move to Portugal is DON'T BUY LAND, BUY PROPERTY that has already has residential status!! My father's dream would've turned out very differently had he bought property and not wanted to build his own place. Hope this helps somebody.
We need to talk, after coming across this video maybe a few months old but it's perfect for me in so many ways..! 👌
Glad you like it :)
Hi Guys You mentioned you have lived in Spain before you moved to Portugal. What are the pros and cons comparing both countries. Thanks
Sure… look through our channel we have already made a video on this :)
Go the hell I like it here..Did you get your paper and now you saying that.......After 10 of March going to be nicer for you and I hope so.....VOTO CHEGA because of idiots like you
Will i be able to rent with just a Nif.
Yes… if the landlord is happy with that. Watch part one and you can see our tricks to work around it
The Visa process doesn’t seem easy at all! I think I may not be able to swing it!
I guess there is countries there is easier than here. Portugal is slow… and become easily very expensive to try to navigate… The best way to describe living in Portugal is it’s hard to be productive. And get something done.
@@HyggeJourney I’ll keep trying back home in the US.
Alone, no true relationships here in the US. The Algarve would be good because expats can guide me. I hope! Portugal looks nice. Just want to rent a small apt where I can paint and write for publication. I have only Social Security to live on. I need to find somewhere I can afford to live. Speaking of mail- From Australia takes 2-3 months to the US.
Expats are still very spread out. So it takes some to navigate it. Try to connect with other expats before you arrive and let them help you introduce you to other people etc
You're speaking of taxes. If I'm a writer and artist. Would I need to pay tax? I've read there are inexpensive small apartments in The Algarve. Is that incorrect?
Of course .. you need to join the Facebook group for tax.. Regarding apartment see our other videos on renting and educate yourself on how the market is on that part of Algarve that you want to move to
As the mega rich buy up all the assets world wide the middle classes will seek out a country they can have a decent standard of living until the assets in those countries will inevitably rise. We need to tax the mega rich so people in their own countries can have any hope of a standard of living
Tax the mega rich and they just leave. Easy. So rather design a country where the majority can win… don’t think it will happen in Europe any time soon
@@HyggeJourney funny how we managed to sanction Russian oligarchs and freeze their money and assets when there was political will- so it can be done. You can tax the hell out of your average 2nd home owner or property investor to try and slow down house prices, but who is going to be able to afford them then- still only the mega rich. They have more money they can spend so it is hoarded and some out into assets making them more expensive for the rest of us and therefore devaluing actual money- literally no other way of moving out of this mess besides trying to get the mega riches money back into circulation for those below. Follow @garyseconomics for in depth look at this
Planning permission taking ages, this is very sad for those trying to invest in the country and trying to be happy...
It does indeed
It's normal he takes years, the problem is people buy land and not propertys thats a big mistake. Trust what you know and not what people say to you.
Ainda aqui estão? Embora, já ontem era tarde
?
I'm glad to listen to your video, great insight. I want to move to Portugal on a seeker visa from South Africa. I've had alot of mixed feelings after listening to you. Moreso, as a new immigrant on a job seeker visa ,which city will be more profitable and affordable for me? I wish i could get an honest Portuguese local friend here who can help me through with his assistance. I'm humbly requesting. Anyone, please? Please hit me up ,so we can connect ok.
Portugal is not a good place to go to for a job. Look for somewhere with a better job market
