The history of the Sazerac cocktail is pretty interesting. So is making it without breaking a glass.
Hallo Zusammen!

Deutschland! The country that perfected beer. But let's turn our attention to their upstart whisky distilleries. Mark and Rob will be drinking Slyrs Classic plus asking the most important question..."Why does Germany have SO MUCH Eagle Rare?!"

You know how they say, "You don't want to see how the sausage is made"? That's quite the opposite when it comes to cocktails. And Rob drops dollar bills for us to try the new Woodford Reserve Master's Collection Batch Proof.

The One About The List

On last week's podcast, we talked about this bottle of The Glenlivet. I didn't think we'd be able to get our hands on it. But the world of whiskey is a magical place. It also helps to know a couple of guys. We'll also talk about the list for Mountain West Whiskey Festival. It's up and it's wonderful.

2023-The Influencers That Weren't

Rob and Mark recap 2023 over a bottle of Smoke Wagon. All in all, it was pretty good. The year and the whiskey.
Recently returned from a vacation in Budapest. Absolutely had a blast! Tried Palinka( multiple flavors) toured and sampled Unicum at the distillery , Szilva, Reserva , Barista and the original , we liked it so much drank two bottles while we were in Hungary. So it’s a definite love it or leave it . We have been extremely unsuccessful in locating some in the States.
Budapest is an absolutely beautiful city to hang out in! And yes, I would love to find some of that here in the states, but it is near impossible. Glad you had a good time!
Just got a bottle in the mail. The regular strength is fairly good.
It really was better than expected.
Me encanto😂
For anyone who doesn't like the original Unicom, i'd highly recommend trying the plum flavoured version or the Unicum Riserva. The last one is a bit more pricey becuse it's aged longer and there is more sugar added so it's a lot sweeter. Tastes almost like Jägermeister but a tiny bit less sweet.
We just ordered a bottle of it for our 200th episode. Glad to know it may be better!

It is an acquired taste admitedly, like Marmite - either you love it or hate. Personaly I love it, just the one glass after dinner, goes down really well. I find the Next is too sweet for my taste, the 'Barrista' is fine but I still prefer to the tradicional recipe.
1 st comment Bastardsss🥃😁😁😁
Good taste tequila with no after bite to the throat smooth and smell tequila.
The worst thing that I’ve ever drunk…absolutely vile.
I don’t think you’ll really get an argument from the three of us either! Thanks for watching.
Try Petrus.
I bought 2 of them. One to save and one to drink. My initial taste I was unsure. The second time I tried it I absolutely loved it
Same! We’ve had a couple of tastes since we filmed this, and have really come around.
Desert Island - "highest alcohol content to use as an antiseptic and make fire". Brilliant!! I have looked for Two Stars for a while to try, and got a bottle last week in SC (I live in Georgia). I thought it was OK. I have not tasted it blind against something yet. I like screw-tops just because they are easier to open! I am too old to care about being cool any more!
Thank you for watching, Joseph!
@@whiskeyatwork9581 I just realized that two stars is Very Old Barton. Considering that I got VOB 100 proof 1.75 for only $35 there is no reason to ever buy two stars again.
@@josephthomas2226 Excellent point.
Start the video at 9:09 you're welcome
You either love it or hate it
So true!
@@whiskeyatwork9581 And i sure do love it
To each their own obviously, but I dont know if I can trust the opinion of someone that says, "I'd never drink whiskey neat" 😆😆😆
Exactly. To each their own!
Please stay up north. We really don’t need you buying our liquor down here anyway.
I guess it’s just not for everyone. But feel free to visit anytime!
86 proof and harsh?
From what I remember, yes. We really wanted to like it but something about it was just "off".
The whole point of distilling is a mash process with a grain and then of course you're adding yeast to speed up the process but if you were to use grain and then distill it if you could get the water light enough to remove all the heavy elements in the water you could probably develop a reasonable alternative
Neat it's okay. Over ice washed it out for me. For mid-$30 it's not a bad pour at all. I don't think it taste anything like regular Buffalo Trace though. As you stated, it may start from a similar mash bill but after being distilled 2x more times it is definetly spicer (in my opinion) then Buffalo Trace. This also tastes like it's a little proof than 90 proof.
Thanks for watching, Glen. All good points!
You are awesome Bryan. I used to love watching you play drums at Golden west school. Glad to have gotten to be friends with you man. I wouldn't have ever started playing drums if it wasn't for you. Amazing how long ago that was now.
Stellar show, every time 😎very cohesive!!
Thank you Jean. That’s very kind!
The Legend David Graham!
Unicum is the national drink of Hungary as it is Buckfast of Scotland it is simply NOT
as a hungarian I can tell you that Unicum it was and it is the drink of the jewish gentries of Budapest ( no offense, if you had seen the move titled Sunshine is based on the story of Unicum) and definetly not the national drink of Hungary, btw you need something to drink with it preferably a beer
Az Unicum szintén hungarikum
Agreed, it needs a good beer with it. I'd also argue Palinka is the national drink of Hungary. (I'm also Hungarian but not fully sadly)
Very nice video!
In that commercial, the prince signted the mans execution
Thanks for having me guys!!!!
Crazy how long ago those cali days were. Would be sweet to get lunch with you if ur in Nashville while I come thru to Georgia man.
cool 😎 it is true
If u don’t know how to drink it it’s ure problem but this drink it’s amazing lots of flavours on the palate and after taste
Awesome! Always fun
First!!
Hey! Excellent
First!!
I’m the one that gave the like.
Just found a bottle in Rhode Island, so strange that this is one of the states they were shipped to.
Glad you got a hold of one! Would love to know what you think.
@@whiskeyatwork9581 Will let you know when I open it, gotta wait for a special occasion!
Assuming you have a smart phone, how did you get sold a $100 bottle of Sazerac bourbon? It kinda looks like you bought a really cool $70 bottle filled with $30 of Buffalo Trace. :D
Because I am a sucker, that's why.
@@whiskeyatwork9581 tbf not many folks will have a bottle from Franfort, KY in their collection so there's that.
@@Rotoman3795 😆
Great show guy's 💪🏾💯🙏🏾🙏🏾
Thanks for the DWT plug guys 🥃
Thanks for having us part of the group!
Awesome!
Love the video. 🚴🥃
Thank you! We were both very happy at how good that tasted.
Buffalo Chip American Whiskey is a 4 year aged wheat bourbon, 4 year aged Rye Bourbon and a 6 year aged corn Whiskey… makes a great old fashioned. 92 proof but it drinks like an 80 proof! If you like that try woodys reserve. That’s a 7 year aged wheat bourbon and a 7 year aged Rye Bourbon. Also has corn in it
Just had some of the reserve. Very tasty!
"chemically engineered whiskey" doesn't seem like the most appealing description. I do think there is something to be said about the oxidation that occurs in a barrel as the whiskey ages, and I'm not sure that's something that can be replicated in a short space of time. (oh, and on the Mona Lisa, in the same room, on the opposite wall is this amazing HUGE painting that to me, was much more impressive than the ML, but basically nobody was looking at it!!)
It really isn’t that awful. We’ve had worse barrel-aged bourbons for sure. But it is very interesting. And thanks for watching!
Was in the area visiting family for Xmas and got a bottle of that New Riff pick. It's delicious, well done!
Thank you for doing that, Jason. Enjoy!
These two are just terrific, knowledgeable and fun😍
These two guys are fun to listen to and a wealth of knowledge😍
great whisky worth trying!
Hi, IM Hungary. Proba, Unicum Plum my best is. But have Unicum Barista. 😉
Frosen best drink. Hot, helps in the healing process
Apple Jack is great.. great Video.
Thank you Mike. A Jack Apple and Sprite is one of my favorites.
The national short drink in Hungary is the pálinka
One of my favourite things to do with a new make spirit is to try it against the aged spirit to see how much of the flavour comes from the spirit, and how much comes from the wood. Great looking cocktail too, clever to use the pineapple as "ice"!
Thanks for the comment! I did like this more than I thought I would. And honestly it was relatively easy to sip with enough ice. Definitely better in the cocktail, though.
You barely talked about the whiskey in detail . You didnt even mention the grain bill and their unique rye grain and the amazing talent Todd has. At minute 13 you mentioned a malting floor. Sorry, poor review video provided no substance. :-( This was a waste of 15 minutes.
Thanks for the comment. We don’t really try to go in depth on a lot of these whiskeys because we’re not experts on it at all. We just like to find unique things around us that people might be interested in. These videos are more to just bring attention to the fact that these types of whiskeys exist. I’m sorry you felt your time was wasted, but you should give that whiskey a try. It is pretty good.
