Video description
How many times have we **become obsessed** of wanting to do an activity or a project **well at all costs** ("this is the opportunity to finally do this well. I have time and the topic interests me ...") and the result was mediocre and it took us a really long time?
How many times, on the other hand, have we been **under pressure**, perhaps for an imminent delivery, and **we have managed to achieve** a very good result in the short time available?
It happened to me at school, university and it still happens to me at work today
There are two main causes:
1) **More time we have, more time we spend**. Since we have 8 hours to fill, we fill 8 hours. If we had 15, we would fill 15. It's called **Parkinson's Law**.
2) **The habit of trying to make something perfect**, especially if we have more time to do it. In fact, we risk getting bogged down in minutiae, wasting a lot of time or doing one part perfectly but the rest badly. In both cases with a mediocre result. It's called **perfectionism**
Perfectionism is caused by the inability to prioritize, so in the end everything is important and urgent, even the things that aren't. And it is often caused by the fear of making mistakes, of letting go.
But let's get to what I think are the **solutions**. Very simple but they can help
a) For the first problem, parkinson's law, we have always to **give a limited time** to the activities we have to do and **clear due dates**
b) For perfectionism
1. We have to **set priorities** and focus on the most important ones. If we have more time, we can also dedicate ourselves to the less important ones. To define imporant and urgent task we can use the **eisenhower** matrix for example. I put down in the description a link to an example you can use
2. **It is okay** to do a task or a project in an **imperfect way**. For those tasks or projects (they are most) on wqhich we can afford to make mistakes or correct without major damage, let's **focus on quantity instead of quality**. Quality will come by itself through trial and error
*Want to get better at photography? Take 10,000 photos. Learning how to cook? Try 100 recipes. Video editing? Make 100 videos. At the end of that (and with a few TH-cam tutorials sprinkled in for good measure), it’s hard to not be significantly better. (Ali abdaal)*
This quantitative approach is also very important to **reduce the friction** to start a project. For example I use it when I create videos. If I wanted to create a perfect video I would never start. In fact, we often don't even start because in our head we have such a perfect and therefore complex idea in mind that it becomes a monster.
I hope these tips can be helpful. They are the result of many of my mistakes, which I still make, but with the aim of improving
Thanks for watching and see you on the next video

How many of our days do we spend solving our tasks, our todolists, but they never seem to end? As soon as we think we have completed some, another email arrives, another phone call and we start again with the usual loop. They are like waves in a stormy sea. As soon as we have passed a wave, there is another one behind it, perhaps bigger than the previous one. In the long run this produces frust...
