My name is Jorene Cook, EdD. I am an Early Literacy Coach and Adjunct Instructor in CNY. As they say, hindsight is 20/20. If only I knew that explicit phonological awareness instruction had a direct influence with foundational reading when my 16 yr old was just learning to read, might I have understood then that he struggled greatly? Would that be the early push I needed to advocate years before I did? While I will never be able to make up for that lost time with my son, I do know that other families and educators can alter the course for their children. We may not be interacting in a face-to-face format, but we can still provide opportunities to develop basic to advanced levels of phonemic awareness. I designed this channel to support my fellow parents and educators with phonological awareness tasks due to our new distance learning platform.

This is great!! One suggestion would be to add the link to part II here in your description to make it easier to navigate to. I appreciate all of the time and effort that each of you give for FREE to the community. "When we know better, we do better."
Thanks for the suggestion! I’ll do that.
