This channel is named after me because it is about things I do or have opinions about.
It isn't a scale aircraft model channel - although, for now, there are mainly videos about that.
It isn't a music channel - although, for now, there but a few videos about that.
It isn't a vlog channel - although there will occasionally be videos like that.
Well you get the general idea. This is a channel about everything I do.
I am limited in facilities & equipment but hang-in there & this channel will improve, one day, I hope.

Kit Restoration - Airfix Jet Provost - Red Pelicans

After breaking this model last year, I decided to rebuild it rather than dispose of it. So, a donor kit, some paint and just over 12 months later, after a stop-start go of it, here is how the repairs were finally completed.

Here then is my first video with edits, made of multiple clips. It is basic but revolutionary for my little channel. Yes its about an F-16 kit, again, but I'm actually building this one. Oh I know I spelt Hasegawa wrong on the title but its too complicated to go back and change it now. I'm still fumbling my way through learning the editing software.

A new decal company to me is Syhart decal from France. I plan to build an F-16 in the livery of the Netherlands display aircraft from the late '90s, which I saw at the time. Also you get a glimpse of the kit I plan to use.

In this video I show that not all kits are scaled equally so as you will see, one can't just buy a kit from a different manufacturer to use as spare parts. No matter how decent the donor kit is.

Amazing restoration Robert!
Thanks.
Well the collection is getting back together slowly.
Yup.
Robs aeronautical repair shop going well.
Thanks. Its not a long term effort. I've kept some bits of those I can't restore, to use in any replacement kit I may get.
Well tidy F-16 Rob,well tidy. Indeed.I.am not a fan of grey pointy things but this is tempting me to build one.
Good, thanks.
Looks good Robert and the smoke canopy looks great in the video. Any idea why the paint should peel off like that?
Thanks. Not sure about the paint. My hypothesis is damp or heat from my fingers, softening the paint? At first when it happened on the nose I thought of leaving it as "weathering" but it got worse. More like when the Valkyrie lost its paint by going too fast. Anyway I daubed some paint on and it looks okay without my glasses on.
Cracking result Robert 👍
Thanks for that complement.
I love the comment you made early on, along the lines it is a static display rather than flying aircraft. Good glue tip for the canopy. Not a bad restoration.
Thanks mate. I'm glad I didn't bin it last year. Now a few little restoration jobs for a handful of other survivors. Then the big job to rebuild my orange & silver Gnat and the Gulf War Tornado.
Thanks for the video Rob , very interesting
Glad you found it so.
First kit I ever built ages 5 in 1960😮. Not worried about the colour match of the originals (we had black and white TV and only two channels!)..... Just slathered the bottle (yes bottle) of Airfix gloss red on with my mum's supervision and hey presto - I was into modelling😂😂😂😂 70 next year 😊
Hope you have a great birthday next year. The first "Red Arrows" Hawk I built, decades ago, was using a tin of Humbrol Enamel No.19. I don't know how I ever got the brushes clean.
Great restoration!
Thanks Sam. I wish I had shots of it before I put the tail back on. I've got a few more waiting to be put back in once piece.
is that the old tool JP? I have one of those I built back in the 90's I intend to give a refresh to.
Its the new-ish tooled one. About 2011-15. Similar kit to kit number A02107 sold as a Jet Provost Mk.4. I used parts from Airfix kit A02103 Jet Provost Mk.3, for the bits which were damaged or missing. Airfix has re-released the Mk.3 kit.
Well tidy save Rob well tidy indeed.
Thanks. I wish I had started filming earlier in the process.
Awesome Robert..👍👍👍
Thanks very much.
Thanks 👍
Looking well tidy Rob.
Thanks it may be another week or two but I'm getting there.
👍
Make Approval Great Again!
Well that is a move forward and looking neat.
Thanks. I realised today (July 1st) that three are tiny decals to put around each 'leaf' of the nozzle. I ain't doing it I tells ya, I ain't. :-) I should complete the kit this week though.
Coming together. I was supprised at how much weight is needed to keep the nose wheel on the ground.
Probably doesn't need as much as I used.
Well tidy job so far Rob,look forward to more.
Thanks
It always made me think twice when I saw the Boxkite on the ground with all the ailerons just hanging straight down but they onlyneed to be pulled down for roll control and save a load of weight.
Yes in the days when they were still inventing the aeroplane, there were some unfamiliar solutions.
tip top video, I like the new format at the Jet pipe is not that bat a little sooting up and it will be great. A bit of a bugger the cockpit being too far forward.
Thanks for the comment. Just catching up on a few.
very fragile looking aircraft indeed. I recall years ago my father built the 1/48 Pyro model of the Boxkite, complete with all the rigging.
Interestingly it was built in the 1960s for the film "Those Magnificent Men in their Flying Machines". The Shuttleworth Collection also have the Avro Triplane, built for that film too. The one which makes a brief appearance in this.
Fine job.
Thanks. Well, so far so good.
Inner workings of the nozzle! Well tidy work Rob.
Thanks. Its a bit of an extra effort and saves buying aftermarket nozzles.
Epic I will say that is a varst improvment now you can do a bit of videoing, it will allow you to have out takes and for you to form a story line cutting out the bits you think we don't want to watch.
Thanks. I should at least now be able to trim off the couple of seconds where I fiddle to find the off switch. I like that I can stich little videos together to show progress in a better way. I always thought reveal videos were a bit "ta da" and nothing else.
kudos for all the work in reconstructing the intake and missile rails! Happy 50th anniversary of the F-16 in service
F-16 looks good at 50.
I cant even work a smart phone, let alone edit videos, well tidy Rob.
Its at the "how do I? What did I just do?" phase.
👋🏽
Thanks.
Thanks mate👍✈️🇳🇿
Not sure what for, but you're welcome.
I think that is a very interesting way of getting a very colourful airshow scheme, in days of old we would try to do things like that by masking with electrical tape.
A yellow "go faster stripe" down the side? :-)
Not a fan of grey pointy things but the decals make this otherwise drab jet very colourful.
I find the grey schemes a bit sad but the idea is not to be seen. I do like the F-16 though. It is the last fighter that really looks like one in my opinion.
Wow a load of different aircraft in one pack. You never know you might get more time to build models in the care home.
I have doubts that half my stash of kits will be built.
Nice looking decals but i wonder what is the quality like?
The quality isn't bad with this set. One always has to look-out for squiffy roundels though, even with aftermarket decals.
@@Payne2view oh so true ,Robert.
That kit builds up nice, I bought 2 of them because a moving company lost my first one I built. ( I had a whole box of 1/72 scale built aircraft go missing in a move).
Oh dear, sorry to read of your missing models. I've got another of this kit so whatever I learn doing this one, should be applied to the next.
Which Typhoon kit are you going to use?
I'm not sure. I will need aftermarket exhaust nozzles though because kits more often than not always come with just the closed 'feathers' sittuation.
I had a flight in a NL F16 trainer back in the 90's from RAF Marham, great fun, mach 1 at 200ft over the sea.
Wow. What a ride that must have been.
I like the way they made it easier to install the main gear and then add the center piece afterwards.
We'll see how it works in practice in the next few weeks as I am building this now.
its stll used if something broke i believe
I'm sure it is.
You would of thought that the same aircraft would be the same size no matter what company made the kit!!
I suppose it depends where the part joints are located.
Hasegawa make nice kits, but can be a little pricey.
Yes they have a few outside my budget. Their F-16s are not bad value though.
Not a fan of grey pointy things but well tidy review Rob.
Thanks.
The parts supply kit. Looks okay.
4 weeks later I'm building this.
Hi Robert! Nice review. I have the Hasegawa F-18D kit, and this looks similar. I'll look forward to seeing your build 😀.
Thanks. I will try to do decent job of it.
@@Payne2view I'm sure you will! 👍
Please focus the camera and hold it still.
I've got an old out-of-focus camera and the video was made 8 months ago. Other videos will be better. I can't afford a better set-up. It is what it is now.
I supose it is partly how they get the basic dimensions to make thier models, they may take the measurments from photo's or from actual measurments with a tape or rule. On top of that they have different build methods. Good video.
Thanks. I'm catching-up on old comments. Hope you get well soon.
Hi Robert! 😀It's the same with figures -- especially 1/35s. With Tamiya, I found that people seemed to have grown an awful lot bigger between WWII and the Vietnam War... 🤣
It makes a person wonder who was the model for the model figures. Just like seeing uniforms in a military museum, they look so short & thin.
Great video, The Swift did not have a HUD, it had a gyro reflector gunsight. A HUD is a device that shows flight performance like airspeed and altitude as well as weapon aiming cues.
Thanks or the info. Glad you liked the video.
This is my is one my favourite Airfix kits having bought a few of them.Well tidy review again Rob,well tidy indeed.
Thanks Ken.
Nice looking kit Rob but I stay away from resin and metal parts, well tidy review.
Yes, I'm not sure how many of the metal bits n bobs I'll be using, whenever I get around to making it.
Airfix nice idea to have a option for builder to add seat harness or use the moulded. Looking at the bit of engine you had a little struggle to think what it did, if it is at the rear like it looked it would be the turbine stage as you have the compressor stage glued to you intake. It is a shame they don't do a pilot but then they have gone to town with the flying control surfaces, It would make a great service seen for those who are into that.
Yes. I think it has enough detail for my needs. Some Harrier kits used to have moving front fans and connected nozzles, even in 1:72. It will be nice to compare the two Swifts from different model producers, Xtrakit vs Airfix.
I bought this kit as well as the Airfix F2B (nostalgia for my childhood over 60 years ago). The Roden kit is difficult to assemble in fact I gave up and dumped it. The airfix kit will require a lot more work to make a decent model but I will be giving it a try. I think Roden was formerly called TOKO, I've just bought their 1/72nd scale Sopwith 1/2 Strutter and I'm expecting a similar struggle.
Sorry to read that you had trouble wit the Roden kit.
