I don't remember where I first found out but they wouldn't be offering you replacement parts and Nother hot water heater if there wasn't a recall. The gas valve is defective, cheap junk made in Mexico and the whole batch failed.

​@familygal1968 they paid for the replacement of the valve so once they did that it shouldn't have fail again for the same issue. Did you send in the warranty card when you bought the hot water heater? If they are sending you a new one, they are likely considering that honoring the warranty. Unfortunately you will have to get someone to install it, so it's done correctly and safely. That relieves them of liability. If you know anyone that's fairly handy, they should be able to do it, or you could get a recommendation at menards or home depot for an installer.

Glad yo hear it. I have no idea why the company doesn't want to publicize this issue so loyal customers will stay loyal. If they voluntarily made these replacement parts as easy to get as making a phone call, is feel better about buying their products in the future. Glad the video helped you. You're more than welcome to buy a hot water heater and disassemble it to show people the "right way" according to you. Other than that, how many people have you helped with this issue???

24" is recommended, but the bigger the radius, the better cars will track around it, and not look like toys going around a Christmas tree. id recommend 26" or larger if you have the room.

was the obring damaged? i only had one o ring. sorry, i didnt see this question. for some reason i seem not to be getting notifications on this video. theres usually not more than one o ring, and the line probably needs to be loosened and push the flared line upwards before tightening the line again.

i guess it really depends on how involved you want to make it.

As is the car was $50 pre-ordered but your retailer may sell for less. Considering the detail, it's definitely worth it, but you probably would want to mix it in with other cars as a standout in the train. Not every car will be this detailed in a train.

Lastly, these gas valve sensors tend to go out in the winter 🥶 time (nothing like taking a cold 🥶 shower 🚿 before getting out for work or school).

@itzsmejw guess if they let people know then they'd fix it instead of paying a contractor to fix it and paying for the valve

You did order a free replacement valve though correct? Removing the sensor just verifies that's the problem. Long term you should have the company ship you a free replacement valve so you don't have more issues later. Glad the video helped you. Thanks for watching.

I had the valve replaced then I had a whole bunch of other parts replaced and now it’s down for the third time.

Did you go to any of the distributors of the water heater? The company supplied replacements to the distributors such as home depot. They aren't dealing directly with customers.

@@jimthomefan50025 Menards was useless didn’t have anything in control valve in stock and on the water heater itself had the 1800 number to call and said don’t go to the store for warranty purposes

@Bradley Sonnentag they have been sending valves to menards home depot and other places. I'd call the store first. Rheem found the control valves out of Mexico were defective. Otherwise they wouldn't be replacing them free

@@jimthomefan50025 that’s a good idea I’ll ask to talk to Richmond distributors. The people at Menards sometimes are probably lazy they actually told me that they never had heard about this problem, the standard answer these days. The thing I am really wanting to see is the official recall on this particular gas valve so I can present it to them . I am property manager with a number of water heaters in various units and sure run up against this again.

I have a floor drain right by the hot water tank so I wasn't worried about water getting all over the place. It's going right into the drain.

My suggestion is to do what I planned to do, paint it or weather it. Overall it's a good model and I'm sure you aren't going to pass on buying it over something easily corrected

Yes I spotted it right out of the box but I plan to weather mine so it won't be noticeable anyway. Do you plan to not buy them because of something that can be corrected? I'd get out the airbrush and make the underframe color a memory.

Did any of the ones complaining about the artwork actually contribute to the development. I can't see athearn having people give them guidance and then ignore it. Companies do make mistakes, and if that's the case, there are companies that make decals you can correct discrepancies with. I thought the number on the bay was a little undersized but I plan on changing to a 90 series number so it wouldn't bother me. Microscale has caboose sets as well. Overall it's a welcome addition.

@@jimthomefan50025 To answer your question yes the one complaining did in fact provide input, did provide correct engineering diagrams of all fonts, did supply correct paint colors, did provide free of charge art work. and nothing was fixed... nothing! The issues can not be fixed with decals because the decals that are correct are gone or incorrect from microscale. Now the model it self is not the gripe, it's the poor art work, initial research, and disregard for correction of issues. These are not cheap cars and there for should not have some cheap half hearted paint and art work.

@Jason Quinn I noticed the black underframe soon as I took it out of the box, but wasn't overly concerned as it will be weathered. For those that aren't weathering it, a coat of blue paint with an airbrush, or having someone do it if they can't would take care of that issue. I do agree, to spend what you're spending and have to resolve issues shouldn't happen. Especially, if there was guidance preproduction to ensure accuracy, and it didn't come through in the production of the model, that's disappointing. I believe it's time for athearn to bring production back stateside, where they can monitor production closet. I wasn't impressed with the thickness of the paint on the last run of GP40-2 units. It's as if 1 coat was good, so let's try 3-4 coats to make it better. It obscured most of the detail. Of course, other companies aren't without their failures, but yes, if they got all the input they needed, this shouldn't be an issue this late in the game.

sorry i havent been getting notifications on this video for some reason. you can match up the oring at a hardware or automotive parts store. i dont have the exact o ring size as its been awhile.

Glad you liked it, discovered the wheelsets were perfect, the fine tread wheels kinda rode up on the rail the reason it rolled with resistance. I reseated the wheels on the rails and it rolled freely.

We seem to be popular for some reason, it's been up here 3x recently.

There is a recall on them. You would have to check at your local home improvement store, they should have the replacement units to swap out and it's not terribly hard but you'd have to shut off the gas before removing it. It's fairly easy but a little messy having to drain the tank to take the valve off.

@@jimthomefan50025 Yup, I've replaced a view gas valves, last was on my furnace. I thought it was the damn flame sensor because the water heater is brand new (Richmond from Menards), and my gas space heater in the basement lit up ok so I figured it wasn't a gas issue. I will call tomorrow and check to see if they have any of the recalled gas valves in stock. Thanks for the info again.

Pt 2 should have went upright after the pt 1. I'll see what happened to it. Reinstallation is the exact reverse but the main gas pipes need new pipe dope approved for gas lines applied to the threads before reconnecting your gas line to the gas valve. As with any gas installation, mix up some soapy water after reconnecting the gas , turning it on after everything is back together and spray the fittings with the soapy water to check for continuous bubbles caused by any leakage in the gas line. If you see lots of bubbles, turn off the gas and retighten any fitting that is bubbling and recheck. You can also do the sniff test, if you smell rotten egg smell (mercaptan added to natural gas for detection of leaks) additional soapy water will pinpoint the leak. Usually with pipe dope, leaks are seldom seen.

We're you able to get the gas valve from menards or home depot? The installation is pretty much reverse of my disassembly video. Make sure you use ptfe made for gas lines and after reassembly, make a solution of dish soap and water, spray all gas connections you took a loose ND if you don't see bubbles actively coming from any gas lines and don't smell gas you should be good to go. Lastly, make sure your water supply is fully opened to fill the tank back up. You'll get air in your lines after you run the hot water until it pushes the air out of the hot water heater.
