Which meant it road to high, and the velcro met at my neck. So I did was anyone would do. I modified it and have been testing it.. well. it passed the test. and I am happy with the modifications I'...

Pouches and Containers. How I organize my gear......
Wouldn't it be a bit sketchy to store your water in an ammo bag? Lead poisoning and all?
You’d store your water in a canteen. Maybe carry the canteen in the bag. Nothing scetchy
Merry Christmas, Mike. I 😊hope you have a great holiday and a very happy New Year. Hope you can come back home sometime next year.
Merry Christmas Mike!!!...God bless...woods
Merry Christmas and Happy New Year
Good for pouches, but think the noise from a backpack/waist pack would be irritating
They are noisy. But like you say. Great for pouches.
The end pictures are from my time in the Army and visiting and climbing in Bertesgarten Germny, Obersalzberg. Thats Tim, Dave and myself in the pictures.
I used this method with my Canadian Forces arctic mittens when I was camping in -39 C, because having to pick up my mittens from the ground was just not an option - my fingers began to freeze in seconds with them off... I recommend this technique to friends!
I have a few pouches in Dyneema which also use to be called Cuben Fiber. Tarps made from this are amazing. Hammock Gear makes huge tarps, hyper lite mountaingear makes full tents as well as Zpacks and many others but its really pricey.
It’s a big deal in the ultra light backpacking community
Just got one from a Pakistani tailor, amazing piece for winter days.
Tks for sharing, great tip. 🎩
Great idea
Not my idea. But it’s a good one. Merci
Good idea ...I have lots of gloves ...but very few pairs of gloves..
@ 🤣🤣🤣
Would a mora companion do the same
I believe that it would work well. But it’s not the same quality. So it’s very possible to break
I would suggest you add a canteen pouch on both sides under the sustainment pouches. Can use both for canteens or one side for water and the other for additional storage. Would open up more room inside the pack by displacing your water bottles. Also, using a canteen you can nest a canteen cup and stove. BTW, just using a back pack cover in your choice of camo is a cheap way to upgrade the color of the pack instead of dying it.
I’m a canteen guy. So I always carry canteens. For the moment I’ve not attacked both to the out side. But thanks for the reminder.
Excuse me, what is the capacity of the two sub bags on the front of your kahakka? 4L or 6L?, thank you.
2x 4L
It's nothing more then a Condor Bushlore copy basically as far as design goes. Sure it works well.
You believe Mears copied another knife?
I’ve sold Condor knives. All of their knives are knock offs of every other brand. The quality is basic. But not bad. You should be careful reversing the origin of a knife before claiming that it’s a copy?????
I think the 'bushcraft knife' concept is basically this silhouette with wood handles, obviously the various companies manufacturing bushcraft knives are going to make very similar looking ones. Pretty much all of them are great design wise. If you like Ray Mears (I've watched his TV shows since I was a kid) you might want to get one of his branded knives. I think for the price though, as cool as all of his bushcrafting programs on TV have been, I'd rather spend my money on other knives.
@Genri-fd5ec totally agree. First, find the right knife for you. It could be a mora which cost very little and are good knives. Or have a knife made for you. I’ve put aside my ray mears because I found a knife I prefer. But there are loads of knives out there to use. Find the one that fits your needs. I tell my students this. And remember. Terrain dictates
@ although I like Mears. I’d never buy any more of his gear. This knife was enough. Since my course I’ve learned more about Bushcraft than was taught. I’ll make a video about the course one day. And pass on some truths.
£800/£1000
I’ve seen that
Yeah im trying to find one. It's 7500$ US now
@mat-ventures make me a deal. Scoutbox68@gmail.com
Nice knife! It’s not 01 (the number zero), but O1. I believe the letter O designates it as an oil hardening steel. And likewise the A in A2 tool steel designates it as an air hardening steel.
Hi Mike I own the SWC one in oak beautiful knife, he was the maker after Alan wood but also sadly died, I had the latest emberleif version with black micarta handle but didn’t feel the handle material and went to bushcraft show last year and swapped it for brand new oak handle and some cash lol👌
Nice
Always loved this design
I’m also a very big fan of the full tang drip point ones. Noting longer than this in size. The weight is very good. Although the weight of the Idin is best for me. Only negative with the Idin is it not being a full tang.
It's not European sizing it's Chinese sizing I had to try three before I found one that fitted. Helikon products do not seem to be as good quality anymore. thanks for the review.
I will agree on several items they build. I’ve gotten lucky with the items I’ve had for several years.
Nice review. They are a great knife, I don't use mine as much as some others I have but it does get used. Thanks for sharing.
It’s been a great knife to use
If you sell it, im interested (as long it is below the 1000 mark :) )
Great video, made me curious of my grandpar's old 8x30 I have. Looked and same shape but its an Optolyth 8x30 and says made in Germany. No mil-dot though.
For some reason they weren’t making mildots for many. Took me a moment to find this one. Also, the plastic case. I like it because it’s easy and simple. The leather ones are heavier
@@mikebox Case for mine is a bit worn but still good to store them in. Leather on my 8x30 is still top notch and use them very often to view the wild life around my home.
@ausnorman8050 better than 99% of the newer models
4:35 Inter- Pupillary Distance Basically, how far apart your eyes' pupils are, and therefore how far apart the eyepieces have to be positioned so that you can see clearly out of both sides of the binoculars...
Thanks
Hello sir, neat video. What jacket are you wearing?
Helikon Tex Wolfhound
Looks like a good shirt. Glad you made the comment re elasticity i ordered 1 too small. Should have got the slightly bigger one. Good shirt once it was in the right size
I really like it. Well cut and light in weight
Still have mine in use since 1998. Broke the main blade doing something stupid about 2 years ago. Sent it back for repair under warranty by leatherman and got it back. Amazing service
They do have great service.
Nice form factor and size for what you are getting. How well do they cope with the cold weather as in does the magnification dial become harder to use?
I’ve never had a problem nor heard a problem with these glasses. Remember. The Swiss are using these in the Alps.
Hey brother. Just saw whom I was speaking too.
@mikebox tried to use a midrange pair of modern binos yesterday. -10c and the magnification adjustment was getting stuck in the cold. Would much prefer well made pair like this. Great video brother
@apotcog9988 if I find another pair. I’ll let you know
Never knew what the leather flap was intended for... thanks for sharing!
Ordered my exact same pair long ago on a website but they already were in the 300-350 bucks range.... at receipt had the surprise to see that they were not Kern but Leica... suits me well too...
Leica are a great maker
I’d be interested in hearing how you ended up in Switzerland in the 90s, what you’ve done since living there, and some of your background. Cheers Mike !
That would be a boring video. I’m trying to grow the channel. Not out people to sleep with it.
If you would learn to tear them down, clean, and repair optics, you could see the differences in the quality and the builds. Then you stick to the ones that you know fullful your requirements. There are some that really surprise you. Especially, the older ( 1950's) Japanese models. The build can be excellent and they're usually very rugged. Surprisingly crisp optics too, on certain models. Learning about optics is a wonderful journey.
I’ve never thought of doing that. But you are right.
I have a copy of Mors Kochanski's Bushcraft, and when I took some training from him 15 years ago or so, he wrote in it "The more you know, the less you carry", which I think was his motto. Good to see your latest video! Cheers from Toronto. Simon.
Thanks. This is something I know I didn’t come up with on my own. But it’s always in my mind.
Why don’t you like the sheath, i have one with a black sheath and its nice and sturdy and fine ?
I’d prefer a sheath with out the button. Just a simple drop in the sheath.
@@mikeboxI hear you but you have to admit the design is nice
@nicolaasvoois2311 very nice
Btw whats the weight on this?
170 Grams
@mikebox looked at the s1 pro. It weight is 257 grams. Even looked that the f1 being like 147 grams or something. I think yours in a rat tail Tang. But I imagine it could take a beating but I wouldn't want too. Without a doubt amazing looking knife. Seems like this is the way to go when people complained about the grip being too small for the f1. I think this is perfection. Good choice. But with it comes with a cost.
@gospelninja2.016 I’ve had it so long. It’s been the best investment. But there was one before I got it… coming up in a video soon
Super nice knife. I have the s1 pro. And still thinking of the f1 knife in com3v i sent back on Amazon. I cutted with it before returning(shhhh). But was amazing cutter. Been thinking about buying another one of these. Because the weight savings. Or a bark river gunny scanni.
I’ve owned some Bark Rivers. But I prefer the Fallkniven brand
@@mikebox well, now I guess I'm going to have to spend 200 for a cpm3v F1 now. Thanks.
Sorry
@@gospelninja2.016does Falkniven make a f1 in cpm 3v ?
@nicolaasvoois2311 yes. They do. It just a added cost. I seen them for 180$. Only a 20-50$ mark up.
Great info Mike!...thanks amigo...MT
Welcome
Savotta is way better
Although I like Savotta Packs. They aren’t close to how many people are using ALICE Packs. But when it comes to comfort. Yes. Layout?
Nice lookin little bag
I really like it. Compact and loads of pockets. Not expensive. About 30.-
@@mikebox Have been using a german made leather version wich is half the size of that one for over 14 years now. I've been using it near daily. Good stuff.
@snarfeno once you find what fits. Nothing fits better. This is with all of life.
Hey Mike , I just ordered a black one from Amazon yesterday . Should receive it tomorrow . I was looking at some reviews on it and came across your channel . So I’m a new subscriber … You should do a video on car/Truck EDC gear . I think it would be interesting . Stay well …
Thanks for following the channel. And your suggestion.
Yes, it is true. Just a Supertool, the best name for that excellet tool. It is worth of its name. Thank You for this video. Greetings from SLOVAKIA. You have a new fan Sir.
Thanks. Welcome to our channel. Look forward to hearing from you
Looks nice
Jim green boot company are developing a mock toe moccasin style boot and they will be coming out soon and will be less than half the price of these for those of us who cant afford 6, 7, 800 bucks i wish i could afford them tho lol one day
I think that’s the thing that upsets me the most. Expensive boots. Terrible SAV or service after purchase. I felt this the most. Ok, you paid…. Problem? Your problem.
The old version has no lock on the blades but it was the best you could get at this time; i was in the Navy, it rusted easily. Also owned the newer 300 version, i didn't like the steel they used, easily broke the screwdriver. After that i tried plenty of lighter different models, the last ones i still use are the wingman séries.
Salt kills everything.
Love the clean, simple look of the old pst/supertools
That's the one I own! The stainless (silver) Supertool 300. I love it. Never thought I'd use one, but my friend said he swore by his Gerber. I bought it a couple of years ago, and wow... big, but amazing.
It’s the monster of tools
I own this pack and the Jääkäri M quoted as 30L ... In my opinion it's way bigger .. I'd say it would hold all that kit inside before you even add side pockets .. you can also clip on the Hatka 12L.. obviously the more you lump on it weight wise the more you push to he comfort of the carrying system. I love Savotta kit they are beautifully made ... I like the Kahaka 25L but I keep it uncomplicated without pouches added because it has no ventilation on the back... Because it's designed to be worn over body armour
Agreed
At least someone commented.
Many thanks Mike, fixed my problem perfectly.
Thanks. Happy to help
I'm making a winter setup for myself. Last winter i did -8 -12 celcius and i was as warm as a rolled buritto with hot sauce. Might upload a video about it once its finished. Its not cheap lol
I’ll be camping this weekend.
@@mikeboxWell that will be great cause now all those damned mosquito's and ticks wont be gettin on ya. No sweaty rolls neither. Usually where i live tempratures should be already at -5 right now. But this year it seems like its not. Right now its 10 celcius. going down to max 5 celcius. 10 celcius difference. Maybe next month better luck. Will be trying to train myself to lift all that weight. Quite heavy piece of kit. Trying to stay under 15kg's for everything. food and water included. I've also gained quite the body-weight. a difference of 30-40kg's. So My rolls will keep me warm aswell. And great padding afcourse. The bellyeh shall survive. Holy rolls of warmth indeed
