"Comparing Complex Concepts with Transformers" presentation at the PatentSemTech ACM SIGIR workshop

Using patent examination data, we demonstrate that current LLMs, including GPT-4o, do not “think”. Rather, when asked a difficult “A or B” question, GPT typically chooses the first option and eloquently explains its conclusion, even if incorrect. Rational Choice Theory says that this is not rational, i.e., reasoned. What does this say about artificial intelligence? We trained a much smaller cus...

Wow, I loved the show. At the beginning, Jae Matthews slowly, thinking through the statement carefully, said "So we are a dance band. If you are here," (pointing to the crowd in front of the stage) "you should dance." I wasn't in front of the stage, but my watch claims I did 9000 steps....

So I got to see @twin_tribes last week. Cauldron of Thorns is still my favorite song of theirs. I'm super happy that they played it, and I got a decent video of part of it.

I had never heard of @urbanheatband, who opened for Twin Tribes last week. Their performance was phenomenal! I enjoyed the songs live more than the studio versions that I listened to after the concert. At one point, the singer shouted, "Does anyone want to hear songs about depression?" And the audience cheered. Yeah, that's my kind of music. Unfortunately, the audience seemed pretty dead overal...

Combat Dancing Rattlesnakes

"Combat dancing" rattlesnakes along a trail in Mission Trails Regional Park, San Diego, CA. When we saw them, we assumed that they were mating. But Cascavel1 explained that they were actually two males wrestling over territory or a female. Still photos of these snakes are on Flickr: www.flickr.com/photos/ensiematthias/sets/72157613204190636/.

Dear Mr. Blume, very interesting talk! Do you have any other published material and/or source code for the tool? Also, how does your approach differ from that of PQAI? And, what was the context size of ChatGPT 4o when you ran the experiments (the actual context size of the model depends on factors like hour of the day, server load, etc.)? Thank you!
