I don't know if many owners are aware of how much care and maintenance is required to own and operate the N-VAN, but I certainly learned plenty online. It has a 3 cylinder turbocharged engine, which generates a lot of heat if driven above 4,000rpm or overtaking others too often, it has a fuel tank of only 27 litre and after having driven my new N-VAN over 8,000km since I collected it brand new it now can achieve 18.5km per litre - sometimes 20km per litre. But the Terms & Conditions are; drive with RPM range between 2,000 to max 3,000rpm, do not floor your accelerator and drive above 4,000rpm (darkens your engine oil & heats up the turbocharger which in turn oxidises engine oil ), after driving for 30 minutes you need to let the engine idle for at least 1 minute to allow hot turbo unit & engine oil to cool down a bit before turning OFF engine after parking, the Auto Stop feature is not advisable to use and it doesn't save fuel as automatically starting up again uses more petrol than idling with ECON MODE turned OFF (don't forget that with engine OFF coolant and engine oil isn't circulating to disperse heat); turn ON ECON MODE again when moving off. The turbocharger in the N-VAN is NOT meant for speeding or racing, if it is driven like a sports car, very soon you will end up with expensive repairs. Engine Oil I use is Castrol EDGE 0w 20 and I pump 95 octane petrol with Octane booster tablets to prevent Pre-ignition. Because of the high temperature generated by the turbo charger, I replace the Engine Oil every 5,000km; stretching it to 10,000km over long term will cause various expensive engine issues. A lot of TLC is required IF you want to keep & drive this vehicle for more than 5 years. Go and search TH-cam about turbo charge small engines. You will get a better picture of what I'm saying. Problem is, NOBODY beside Japanese had done any real in-depth review on the N-VAN. But knowing what NOT TO DO with a turbo engine is critical. FYI: engine air filter become dirty and clog up faster than normally aspirated engines. Turbo - it literally sucks - in more air plus dirt and falling tree leaves and ends up clogging up inter-cooler. One more consideration; the N-VAN is not very suitable in Singapore hot climate. It's built and engineered for Japan's cold climate. Therefore, the above facts are best taken into consideration. ~ c j
