Starts still need work, I see (not that I could do any better).
Absolutely still need work, someday I will get enough practice lol
LOL. I missed the start, but it seems so did you...
Yes as a matter a fact we sheeted in before the start and hit this guy directly from behind so we had to do a penalty turn! Way to start the regatta off!
@@jamesofreedman 🤪
@@jamesofreedman oh, @4:50?
Yes! I told the team were racing and i couldnt see hit them right from behind 😂😂😂😂@bessarion1771
Cheer~~~a wind blowing from the southwest.😊
Holy shit, when I realized this was a 3D camera... now I want to get a VR headset just to watch sailing videos
Same here! Love watching them with a headset. Also just being able to see the other boats.
I don't get it. Racing without a jib? Two minutes in, realized wind is blowing 20+, and everybody is struggling.
I think we were a step above base, probably that 10 to 12 range. Tune for the light stuff and hang on in the puffs!
Very new!! I need to post them for sale!
nice crispy main!
I think my favorite part is if you look closely you can see my upset face knowing what's coming but it's nothing compared to how pissed Angel is after we tack LOL
She definitely was in the water on that one! Sometimes, there just isn't time to communicate that you are avoiding a collision!
Nice
😂
😂😂😂🎉🎉🎉🎉❤
😂😂😂
Why are the mainsail halyards so loose even in heavy weather? I see it on all the boats over the years in the worlds, so everyone is doing it but goes against what I know about sailing.
We definitely want the halyard all the way up at all times! Problem is you cannot hoist the top past the black tape band or the judges will give you a penalty. Also our main halyard stretches all the time and we have to raise it between races. We are trying a new one now so hopefully we solve that problem! Great question!
Thanks so much for sharing this - hard to find good symmetrical rigging tutorials
You're welcome! I'm glad it has been helpful for you!
Fuck!
My thoughts!
That was not graceful. lol
Unexpected, gotta be ready for anything!
@@jamesofreedman I agree 100%. But, still.
Why does this happen and how do you avoid it?
If you steer up too high or steer too low the spinnaker goes from in front of the boat to the side and it has a ton of leverage to knock the boat over. Always best to follow the spinnaker and keep it in front of the boat. This happened because I steered up hard to miss a boat and get to port of him for a left turn mark trying to get inside. It didn't work lol!
Lessons learned I guess. Good stuff!!
Absolutely! I hadn't broached in years but can be fun sometimes!
What kinda winches are you running on the deck?
Harken 20 Plain-Top Performa Winch 20.2PTP
These are the secondaries up top!
No thank you ❤
😂😂😂
It looks like you've lost speed because of a slow tack or sharp angle to wind, right ? I'm a novice sailor, want to figure out what's happening here
Great questions! Glad you have found sailing to be a fun hobby! Yes we must stay clear of the leeward boat who is luffing up to make us tack. I pinched up but it was so high we slowed down from 5.5 knots to around 3 knots. We tacked to get away from the situation and just run fast sailing our boat at a more optimal angel based on puffs and speed!
@@jamesofreedman makes sense, thanks for an explanation !
You're welcome anytime!
Bons ventos...
Probably 10 knots!
BELA CAMBADA...
Gracias! ❤
smoooth.
Appreciate it!
blue hoodie was not in the loop
Hims had to pull the genoa in! We use lopez blocks so you have to stay behind to keep it cleated. Then he cross sheets to the cabin top winches... just a Texas thing...
Smooth tack boys, I like it
Thank you!
Dude this audio literally ruined my day knock it off I am way too hungover to deal with this one star
What songs do you wanna hear? I'll make some it's just I've used all the 70s and 80s lol
@brettwalker4556 also trying to get young people into sailing gotta make it look cool 😎 👌
What clip do you recommend for the halyard to keep it from blowing around? It’s hard to see in the video… I’m on a J/109 and we use a Nite Ize Gear Tie and it sort of works but you have to use it just right or it’ll either be hard to hoist or get blown right out of it.
Here is the soak clip we use on all the boats, we use to keep it attached to the stancion however we have since been just keeping it tied to the launch bag instead. www.velasailingsupply.com/soak-halyard-clip/?gad_source=1&gclid=Cj0KCQjwh7K1BhCZARIsAKOrVqFWcnY73htWu5R6aaURc_SMo4PsRk8wByr2vc3umaodsCIFUdfPqIsaAu9WEALw_wcB
@@jamesofreedmanAwesome, thank you. Exactly what I was looking for!
Fantastic!
Tack wass right move.
Agreed, why struggle to stay up.
You guys work for the Secret Service?
😂😂 I guess we could!
How come the backstay is so loose going up wind?
It was fairly light and choppy conditions so we were trying to keep the boat powered up to carry us through the waves...
Nice!
Thanks!
Textbook tacking! Bravo
Thanks so much! It can take years to practice it!
@@jamesofreedman yes, I know, I practiced it as well on smaller boats.
Smaller boats is where all the magic happens!
Pretty smooth!
Thanks so much!
Take that Doug weakly😅
Lol poor Dougy!
What happens when you change helmsman. LOL. 30-70% fault. Your fault (30%) would be not doing everything to avoid collision. Unless your racing rules are different....His, because port tack, of course.
This regatta Matt drove and I crewed for him. He is new and it was so light there wasn't damage he was trying to avoid but I had gold him opposite of his reaction which caused further confusion and I was actually wrong in telling him to go up he should have ducked, but those things happen sometimes.
@@jamesofreedman of course. It's racing! No fiberglass has been hurt during the incident... and yes, I noticed the hesitation. 😗
Right on!
From the camera perspective it seems that the boom is to windward of the centreline. Is this fast on a J24?
The clew of the main probably the last foot of the main is very close to above center. We have plenty of speed and point.
@@jamesofreedman Great! Thanks and good luck in the series!
Thanks so much! Sail fast and enjoy yourself on the water!
They make this look easy!
Thanks! Alot of practice!
Thanks. I haven’t raced a J24 in some time! Leanne⚓️
Come on back to the J24!
Winching to the cabin top winch, never tried that back in the day. Great boat, the J24.
We like that because the trimmer is able to be hiking out!
Sometimes I forget to flush.
Happens to the best of us!
❤
Thanks!
Flying!
Have you ever seen the boat Søhest
No what kind of boat is it?
@@jamesofreedmanl think it’s a benutue
Those are nice comfortable boats!
@@jamesofreedman yeah, last week we took the motored to boat from bay city to port Huron for the mackinaw race
I only raced the Chicago to Mac one time on a Farr 40 it was pretty light air. Hopefully you had a good time!
Are you race today
No but our club race was yesterday. I just missed it! You been going out on the lake?
Thank you!! Yeah they are called Lopez blocks so you have that small windows to get it in and cleated while standing and the secondary winch is right there while he's hiking!
Crispy tack! I like how the cam cleats are right on the leads then the cross sheet is wrapped for the fine tune! Muah
Too fast. Terrible to watch!
Thanks for the feedback! I will keep that in mind.
The music makes the video.😊
Thanks man! I try to have a wide variety of songs glad you enjoyed!
The water is always so peaceful!
Agreed and with just sails up it's a nice peaceful time on the water!
Great video👍. I've been sailing my entire life. I was born on my parents Ranger 29 , they were live aboards who sailed half the globe and here I am 52 on my Columbia 43 keeping the legacy going⛵🤙. Can't imagine doing anything else or being anywhere else 😊
You are living the dream! My dad got me into sailing and we learned to race at the same time. It's pretty cool to be the next generation of sailors! Always trying to build up the sport for the love of it.
@@jamesofreedman I totally agree!! I've gotten a few friends into sailing and recently my cousin who sailed with me to Washington, gig harbor. Definitely living the dream since I'm able to work aboard my boat. My two border collies Thelma and Louise have been aboard since they were 6 months old, they just turned 6. I owe so much to my parents who were avid sailors and taught me this incredible life. Love your videos 👍⛵. Stay safe out there my friend! Happy Sailing.
I love hearing you share the love of sailing, AND... your pups names are priceless! Stay safe and fair winds to you brother!
