I have used Google Earth for reference; one can sometimes find nice views, and I like the ordinariness of these - there is beauty in the everyday. What I do find absolutely maddening about it is that the Google van's camera sits up on pole, so the views are really too high, and constantly I run into views that would have made great paintings if only we weren't looking down on them. I suppose could simply boldly declare that this is the new standard view. After all, this ain't the 19th century. :-) Anyway, Map Crunch is fun; I like the random element it introduces, and indeed it is easier and faster to travel through a section of map so you don't have to sit there and click and click and click.

At 6:23 before it dries it looks like a real leaf with 3d textures and the way its reflecting the light. Is there a way to retain that effect in the finished painting?

love this! I was getting a little disheartened by the fact that scrolling through pinterest was pretty much my only way of finding references, and while they're pretty and work well as photos they just don't have the intrigue of a real life place and my art just seemed a little lifeless. I've started taking my own references and using books that aren't about art, and now having this I'll have no end of interesting references! thanks so much :)

Honestly. I can’t thank you enough for this. I’m someone who used to spend sketching or painting most of the days when I was 19/20, I’m about to be 24 now and it’s been years since I have painted something now. I have extreme fear that I might not be as good as I used to me, and I forgot how patient I used to be when I was painting something earlier, now I just wanna do something in 15 min and expect it to look amazing and if it doesn’t I shame myself for not being good enough and I completely stopped doing art. But this video right here. I’m so glad I found your insta page which lead me here. This is a real time process.. art is a journey. It isn’t something to be done in a snap. I’m so grateful to you. This has inspired to paint something very soon! Thank you so much!

Thank you so much. I bought gouache paint years ago and didn't really do too much with them because a) I don't really know how to use them and b)never had enough time to paint. I recently changed my working hours which means I have some more time and I found your video incredibly helpful. It was so relaxing to just paint along. Quite happy with the final painting as well.

I know what you mean about the struggle of when to finish a painting. Years ago, I had to instill the idea of being "more happy than unhappy" with a piece, and learning to leave it at that! Beautiful painting, Maddy! I loved seeing the video of the real scene at the end, too, that was a nice touch - your editing is going from strength to strength, imo.

Hello Maddy! I'm so glad I could watch this lovely video, it is so beautiful and peaceful. Life has been crazy-busy and seeing you paint this morning helped to bring some calm :D I still have not painted since the beginning of January, (except one-day plein air when the eclipse happened in April) I'm hoping - fingers crossed 🤞🏼I can start this week. 🤷🏼 I hope you are doing well and enjoying the end of spring and the beginning of summer. It's nice to see you are still experimenting and evolving your workflow, I'm sure it is tricky to do that and make a video at the same time, but you did a wonderful job, the flowers and dappled sunlight are so pretty! 👋🏼

It looks amazing my subject tree and woodlands. Just starting gouache, but always been a miser with paint and dont clean it out with tap water hate the thought of it going down the sink into the enviroment so i get a damp sponge and use it on another piece of paper and sponge on trying to make some sort of b🎉a ckground tfs sylvi from Ireland🎉

Hi Maddy. Just found you. So few gouache painters that are helpful. Please stay in your style, there are enough (too many imho) studio g style painters 🥱 If you’re taken requests, would love a whole video on colour mixing. I have the Holbein 18 and honestly the vibrancy scares me! I don’t know how to mute them down and get them looking more natural. Also, that ugly stage when all the blocking is happening, like what? How does a beginner know how to do this? Thanks for listening….please keep making vids, I hope your channel grows, I really like what you have done so far. 🇨🇦🙏
