Can I test my 424 with optional speaker, at I know it s work??

Ah, my college dorm receiver, circa 1980. Most of the other kids guys had Pioneer or Yamaha, but I did my research and settled on this little Sanyo. This receiver is very efficient, and it punches above its weight. We used it to drive big speakers at the dorm floor parties. And the feel of those big knobs is still memorable even today. Mine lasted for 12 years before a channel went out, and I sold it cheap. For somebody looking to build a budget vintage system, this might be a good starter receiver if you can locate a working unit.

I have this turntable. Amazing machine. Mine is painted Black aluminium. It must be a brazilian model only. Never seen anywhere else.

Thanks very much for this detailed and helpful disassembly guide, Steve. Quick question: is there an internal fuse for the front panel indicator lights? I just hooked up my SX-727 again after several years of inactivity and discovered that the five mode selection indicators for AM/FM/Phono/Mic/Aux as well as the station dial illumination no longer work. My next guess is some sort of faulty connection, otherwise I can't imagine what could've caused all those bulbs to simultaneously fail.

That HK receiver sounds pretty good with my JVC amp and Polk Audio speakers. 🙂

Would this adjustment be possible to do with speakers connected instead of an external resistor... as long as it is 8ohm speakers?

I just got something on my Bucket list, replacing my Pioneer SX-9 from when I was in Germany from 1981 until 1985. The working one needs some love but ROCKS just as it is. Now if could find some Pioneer SC-922a speakers. For the record, a Hi-End sound card & computer with good dacs will give any Reel to Reel a run for the money. My 480 dollars (Shipped and Taxed) are worth the Headphone Out alone LOL!. Pioneer did a lot to improve the sound of the 1980 and 1280. The funky and even ugly SX-computer control models was nothing to over look. Go from MM to MC with a push of a Button. 15Hz cutoff filter, lightening fast wattage response and a lot of other features. I purchased an LR-2200 in 1976 from Harry Leiser Sound in Westerly, RI. When combined with the HLX speakers I bought I found that the sound quality was incredible with amazing separation. One could hear every individual instrument. The issue with these receivers is that they get hot if another component is stacked on top of it. The circuits will burn out if not allowed to breathe.

This Harmon Kardon receiver is beautiful!

Love their sound but I balked at them because they seemed to die just out of the Blue! Especially the Dolby Versions.

I have one which is fully working but my stop/start takes apx 8 seconds for both but yours is apx 3/4 seconds when you slide the on/off , any idea how to make mine stop/start quicker

I just got my D2, I don’t have it hooked up to anything yet, but just plugging it into power, should it at least turn on, even if I don’t have it connected to anything else? Looks very clean, oiled, new acrylic dust cover etc. went to plug it in just to see if it powered on…nothing. I’m new, and now I’m panicking.

Hi there With your help I got mine working very well. Thank you. Is it easy to take out the spring hinge for the dust cover? Cant seem to work out how to release it as one is broken as are the hinge tabs (usual technics flaw). Best wishes

What do you have your counterbalance set at? Also how do you have your anti-skate set. For some reason my tonearm lifter doesn't lift up all the way. Any thoughts? Thanks!

Hi, I have a question: in my case the hinge attachement on the side of the record player is also broken. I found replacement parts on Etsy, but first I have to dismantle the old one and how hard I try, I can't manage to remove the pin from the hinge. Anyone has succeeded in repairing this?

Great video. There is one of these on EBay and am interested in it's quality. Have ahd a Sony PS-T2 table since 1978 and it has been a workhorse. Damn, it is growing on me.
