Bubur Gandum | Penang Sweet Dessert - Nyonya Pearly Kee
PenangHomecookingSchool/
Gandum is a wheat pearl porridge. Usually for tea time, we love to have cakes or sweet dessert after some light tea.
In Malaysia where I lived, tea time snacks are a must have.
One of the most popular snack is our Gandum or wheat pearl sweet porridge. Wheat pearl is a kind of barley when cooked with coconut cream and brown sugar is an excellent dessert. The rounded flavor comes form adding pandan leaves. The flavor of fragrant coconut palm sugar complements the gandum so well that you can be addicted to it.
You may have tried some gandum with some additional bite of sago, tapioca or sweet potatoes. Mostly we love adding it for texture and bite. Try making it.
In terms of nutrition, barley or wheat pearl is healthier the just wheat. Barley is richer in fiber and cholesterol-lowering beta-glucan and loses fewer nutrients during processing. It reduces hunger, it makes you lose weight. it is specially good for woman. Used more in your cooking and it help to have healthy gall bladder. The beta glucans may help to lower Cholesterol.
Not forgetting reduces Heart Disease Risk.
As mostly the ingredients are plant based, it is good to consume wheat pearl or barley. Of course we have many types barley available. And this variety is great for making sweet dessert or porridge.
