I never thought that there would be more than 400 episodes in that series. I'm still catching up. Do you have a rough idea, how many episodes there will be in total?

    • @stormbrewer3004

It's turning out to a right beast, isn't it? But I knew that after I'd made the list of regions before I started out. We're looking at somewhere between 620 to 630 episodes. I had to remove a couple of countries from the list (Kosovo and Bosnia-Herzegovina) due to lack of proper coverage, and I am still undecided whether to try and make some playable maps of Cyprus. I will decide on that before long. But yeah, the series should be running until June-ish next year. :) I have a thought or two about what I might do after that, but not sure I will do a fourth monster length series of GeoGuessing. Yet. :D

Why, thank you! Back in my younger years, I went on some interrails through Eastern Europe, and after several misunderstandings in ticket offices about where I wanted to go, I figured I'd save myself a lot of trouble if I learned at least the basic pronounciations of the language areas I went through. That stuff sort is still sort of stuck in my brain, at least where the Slavic languages go. Hungarian - being the language anomaly it is - requires a mental 180 degree pronounciation turn, though.

Nice. All your locations were on the most Swedish speaking area of the country after Åland. Vaasa and Jakobstad/Pietarsaari are easy to distinguish because Vaasa has Finnish speaking majority and Jakobstad has Swedish speaking majority. It can be seen from the street and road signs where the majority language is always upper. Pohjanmaa means literally "bottom's land" and of course it's true because that area is old seabed and the ground is still raising about a centimeter per year after the ice age pushed it down. Närpes is often laughed at because of their dialect (of Swedish). Many say that Swedish speaking Finns don't understand it and Swedes can't understand it either. And an original resident of Jakobstad has confirmed it to me :D (BTW, there's a mistake in the title. Probably you played Pirkanmaa in the same day?)

Well played even too slowly for your own rules. It's funny how a human brain works. Every time I hear word Brandenburg, J.S. Bach's Brandenburg concertos come into my mind immediately and often the 3rd in G major becomes an earworm. That's not bad because the 3rd is my favorite of them :)

That was fast! I was laughing together with you at your mistake on the first round. The rounds 2, 3 and 4 were very much what was expected because Kainuu is so sparsely populated. The last round location looked a very nice place to have a little driving break. In the beginning you were wondering about the Finnish pronunciation. It's very straightforward. Short wovels are marked with a single letter and long wovels with double. Single and double consonants work just like in Norwegian. And every letter is always pronounced the same way, there are no such things to memorize. Finnish has always the stress in the beginning of the word if there even is any stress because the language is quite monotonic. It's a nice thing for a foreign speaker that even you put the stress wrongly on some other syllable than the first, it doesn't affect the meaning and is still fully understandable. It just sounds a little weird.

    • @stormbrewer3004

Thank you for the encouraging words! I have to admit I am a bit divided on the rather low number of viewers. Certainly, a part of me would love to share these places with more people, but on the other hand, I am quite content with having my own obscure little corner of YT. With more viewers comes more exposure and interaction, which means having to dedicate even more time to follow up on the series. Not a bad thing in and of itself, but not sure I would be able to deal with having to commit more time to my channel as a result of more traffic. (That said, my Norwegian series saw a lot more traffic, and never placed more of a "burden" on me ...) The tennis rules idea was mainly a desire to see if I could play in a different way from the previous two series, where playing the maps until I got 25K points in every single one of them was the aim. That made for a LOT of playing, as some of the maps required multiple attempts to achieve success (the worst came in at thirteen), which ofc meant the average time of playing before I could edit and publish an episode was relatively large compared to this series. So I wanted to play this as a sort of match between me and an imaginary opponent, which meant I could make do with a single playthrough of each map, and as this series will run for well past 600 episodes ... well, streamlining things as much as possible helps. I considered several scoring systems for the "matches", and decided on the tennis system, as that allows for comebacks and turnarounds even if one of the players is trailing significantly at various stages. It needed a bit of tweaking over the first 100 or episodes until I arrived at the current format, which I think I'll stick with. Sure, I could cut the round time even further and give the game an even better chance at beating me, but I do want to be able to spend a little time without stressing too much and still be able to pick up some of the vibe of the area before having to put the pin down. The rounds where I spend 15+ minutes of being lost are far more stressful, though. :D So yeah, wall of text. Glad to hear you enjoy the series, and thank you for letting me know! :)
