PyroDinos are single-cell asexual microalgae that reproduce by one cell dividing into two cells. Therefore, they are all the same cells and share identical genetic identities. As an entire entity or organism, they are still alive and prospering. We lose skin, brain, and intestine cells every day, but this does not mean we die. When you mow a lawn, you are not blatantly killing it; you just provide more room and light for new grass to grow. There are nuances you need to understand before accusing us of mass microbial murder.

Try less lighting. Scattering at the bottom is usually a sign of too much lighting. Try moving away from light source.

Feeding is not completely necessary in the short term if aggregation occurs. Aggregation is a sign that feeding can take place. However, feeding is not an absolute requirement (in the short term.. weeks/months). Bioluminescent phytoplankton, such as PyroDinos, typically produce bioluminescence when they are disturbed or agitated. This phenomenon is a defense mechanism against predators in their natural environment. When the phytoplankton are disturbed, certain chemical reactions within their cells are triggered, leading to the emission of light. When bioluminescent phytoplankton are still or not in motion, these chemical reactions do not occur, and therefore, they do not produce bioluminescence. The light emission is a response to mechanical stimulation, such as waves, currents, or movement caused by predators, which disrupts the integrity of the phytoplankton's cell structure and activates the bioluminescent process.

How many days can it live without light? It depends on several factors. We do not recommend more than 5 or 6 days without light. However we have seen some shipments survive for up to 10 days without light. However, this is not the norm.

I did find some natural plankton that exist in the coasts of Kerala here. do you guys think I could get some from the coast and feed it the nutrients on the normal basis? Not any salt will do. You can make your own sea salt solution using artificial sea salts from an aquarium store.
