Accurascale Not so ‘mini’ MEGA NEWS UPDATE | looking at the upcoming models coming in 2025
A not so mini mega update but rather a ginormous update from Accurascale with ETAs of their upcoming models some due early 2025. What I’m most excited for and an open discussion on what we all are excited about coming out of Accurascale.

Hornby Mid 2024 Announcement | Return of a Railroad Range classic! | More negativity? Seriously?!!!!
I have the Class 60 DCC with sound in the Loadhaul Livery, on preorder and I have been informed that it is due January 25.
Hi Ron, thanks for the comment! And awesome is that the Accurascale version or the Cavalex as I know the Cavalex is due end of January but I haven’t heard an exact time frame for the Accurascale version. I’m heading to rails of sheffield today so will enquire with them if they have heard anything 😊👍
I ordered the Locomotion Models version of the J69 back in November, and the website said it would be shipping sometime this month. Last I checked, the regular models from Accurascale would be due in Quarter 1, so it makes me worry I won’t get it in time for Christmas.
Hi Josh, thanks for the comment and yes seems a strange one that the official release is Q1 2025 but they recon sometime this month. I mean best thing to do is get in contact with customer service at locomotion models and ask for a rough ETA but definitely if it’s going to be before Christmas needs sending out this week. Hope all goes well for you and you get a hold of your J69 😊👍
Fabulous loco, excellent review, I have the same model but "Royal Mail" in Southern Green 21C3, I also have the rebuilt Canadian Pacific in the experimental Blue, along with shed mates also rebuilt, New Zealand Line, and Brockleback Line in BR green. I agree about some mods if Hornby do retool, although I think the firebox flicker might be a bit lost in the cab with the tender close coupled. ...Drew
Hi Drew, thanks for the comment and wow sounds quite the collection. I do need to get a malachite green loco one day. And yes you make a good point, but for those that have tighter curves I think would benefit. But who knows I’m secretly routing for a steam generator version 😊👍
Thanks for your update. Please be aware that your audio levels are rather low so it's hard to hear you.
Hi thanks for the comment and glad you enjoyed the Accurascale update. Apologies for the volume issue but I appreciate the feedback it’s hard to gauge when editing so feedback like this is super helpful 😊👍
My Deltics arrive next week thank goodness, Merry Christmas.
Hi Tony, glad to hear you’ll be getting your Deltics before the festive day. Merry Christmas to you as well! 😊👍
The noise is one of the pickups as you hinted but as you said it sounds like wheel flange squeal so leave it. Nice review and you graded it well. Jersey Bill
Hi Jersey Bill, thanks for the comment and glad you enjoyed the video as well as the rating. And yeah I do have to do an investigation as to what is causing the noise but that’s for another day 😊👍
Nice video. Yes, I have quite a few Accurascale locos, too many to list on here. I'm happy for you to DM me and I'll share my list and thoughts with you.
Hi Antony, thank you for the comment and wow sounds like quite the collection 😊👍
I think the spam cans are gorgeous in express blue Harry, this is a total treat mate. I have 257 in malachite green and its a great model, Hornby do a brilliant job with these and frankly it's one that doesnt need an update for another 10 years IMO. But, as you say, smoke gen would be great on it! Great vid as always mate.
Hi Hylton, thank you for commenting my friend hope you are well! And yes I absolutely love this model and the bullied design is so iconic. And you could be quite right it definitely holds in terms of detail to modern standards but I personally think a re release should at least include a flickering firebox. But I’m holding out hope for that smoke detector 😊 keep well mate!
Nice gift and excellent tool. Jersey Bill
Hi Jersey Bill thank you glad you like them to! I’ve found them incredibly useful! 😊👍
Hi Harry, I just subscribed to your site because I trust the opinion of Hylton of "Proper Chuffed" and he was correct. Nice review and running session, Jersey Bill
Hi Jersey Bill, thanks for subscribing and dropping a comment! Really thankful for Hylton shouting me out and glad you are enjoying my content. Running session was great the Scotsman is a really smooth runner at regular running speeds just a shame it’s crawl could be better. Again thanks for the comment and subbing hope you enjoy the channel 😊👍
I have this loco and the BR blue livery really makes the loco stand out mechanically and good runner really good video great loco
@@andrewmeah3082 Hi Andrew thank you for the comment and yes I completely agree I love the BR blue livery it is vastly different to the usual BR green or LNER green we usually see the Scotsman in. Thank you for watching! 😊👍
Just over from Proper Chuffed who gave you a shout out. A very nice looking loco (although the buzz on crawl was interesting) I think your rating was about right from what I could see. I would very much like a Flying Scotsman but which one?
Hi thank you for popping over, really grateful for Hylton giving me the shout out. And yes it’s a really nice looking loco. The buzzing is more down to the controller, it’s just the basic Hornby train set controller as I am in the market for an upgrade and didn’t know whether to stick to DC or move to DCC. However I’ve made that decision and I will be moving to DCC just hoping that Santa brings me one this Christmas haha. And glad you think my rating for this was on the money. And I would say for all the ones I have seen I would either go for the super detailed diecast version. Or if you don’t mind the look of the BR one in the video I’d invest in the new steam generator version as by all accounts it’s the same body just BR green instead and of course comes with the steam generator and sound. I believe Hylton has a review of it on his channel Proper Chuffed as well as Rob from @littlewicketrailway has a review up as well. Thank you again for the comment, All the best, Harry
A good thought provoking video Harry. Found my way here through Hylton at Proper Chuffed and enjoying your content. On the subject of duplication, I think it's a difficult one for the manufacturers as with the complexity of modern model locomotives, the research and development, tooling and prep starts years in advance of the actual model release. For a variety of reasons, not least of all anti-cartel/collusion avoidance, manufacturers keep details on new projects very close to their chests and although it can be argued that the plethora of potential subjects should ensure these duplications shouldn't occur, it must be remembered that these subjects have to be profitable and therefore appeal to the widest possible market, and it is no surprise that the same subjects are targeted by different manufacturers. That said, a greater collaboration between manufacturers after the public news release of their models to avoid livery/running number duplication should be the order of the day.
Hi thank you for the comment and making your way over, really grateful for Hylton shouting me out. And yes it is true manufactures can’t discuss their upcoming projects in terms of what they’re making and how ect. It’s more the whole Rapido/Hornby collab to ensure they aren’t going to produce the same livery options so they all win. Where as in the case of the class 60 seems Hornby aren’t that generous. That said another commenter did point out that maybe an olive branch was extended but declined by Accurascale or Cavalex and that until more information comes to light we won’t know. Either way it’s a great time to be a modern traction fan in the market for a Class 60 as we have so many to choose from. Again thank you for the comment and hope you enjoy the channel! All the best, Harry
Proper good review Harry, thanks for taking a closer look at this one. This is one version I don't have and I have to agree, the express blue is a stunning colour choice. Keep up the amazing work man. Hylt
Hi Hylton, thank you so much that really means a lot! And I really do like the BR Epress Blue it’s looks great thundering along the layout with a good rake of coaches. Have to stay tuned for further reviews as I have another BR blue loco coming up soon! All the best mate, Harry
Awesome video mate, beautiful loco really, they're gorgeous prototypes and id say the model does it justice in terms of detail at least! With a decent amount of running in, I've had locos like this such as an a3 ad 2 a4s, ans they run smooth as butter, they just take ages to bed the mechanism in. Like I say, awesome video mate, your channel is so underrated, you honestly deserve so many more subs 👏
Hi Jack thanks for the comment as always! And yes it is a very smart looking loco, shame about the performance it could be a lot better but who knows mileage may differ on DCC or like you say it may take a a while to bed in properly. 😊👍 And thank you so much for these kind words, I only really started the channel for fun but am really amazed and humbled by the support I have this far and this year it has grown from strength to strength and that’s all thanks to the support from good people such as yourself and many others who tune in to watch me ramble about trains so thank you very much for enjoying what I do ❤️🙏
Unfortunately Hornby are trading on thier brand heritage and using that as much as they can to steal sales and make as much profit as they can. By competing at the same price point as newcomers to the market I expect they feel Hornby shouldn't need to do that, thus they are charging a premium for a well known brand. Its a shame as we all know that ageing models cannot be compared to new ones, but when you over price old models you alienate the customer. You are right, there's a better balance to be had with price and quality. I like hornby but lean more and more to thier railroad range due to affordability.
Hi thanks for the comment. I think you’re very right maybe they are relying solely on brand name. Does seem a shame as I recon if they retired their ageing model and put it in the railroad range at a reasonable price many would buy it I’m sure of it. As you say many rely on it to stay in the hobby and I think Hornby need to realise how important the range is and maybe should add some of their aging fleet into it it would add some new blood to the range. Again thank you for the comment 😊👍
@@YorkshireRailways I Guess they are in a bit of a tight spot, the class 60 from what I can see, isn't half bad and certainly for 2005 and today a very good model. Dare I say far too good for Railroad. So I suspect it still belongs in the main range. Investment to downgrade and charge less makes little to no sense. But wholeheartedly agree, if they were really out to capitalise, put aside the arrogance of the branding. Accept it's an old tooling and put it out at a competitive price for what it is, as I say as a Railroad probably an insult but price it appropriately I feel is the message here. The fact 60001 and 60002 are in Rails' sale @ £119.50 speaks volumes (I'm almost tempted as I do like them in triple grey). However it seems to be the way of Hornby, jack up the price when released and then only discount when they have excess stock - possibly why they have almost doubled their unsold inventory at £28m this year! Too much margin chasing per item rather than shifting items quickly. The likes of Accurascale seem to aim to sell out and price competitively to do so.
Interesting video Harry. I think its a bold play from Hornby to step into this mix, but I suspect most will see sense and go for either Cavalex or Accurascale, especially given Hornby's price point.
@@Proper_Chuffed Hi Hylton thank you so much for the comment means a lot! It has been an interesting year for the Class 60 and I can’t quite figure out why Hornby has come in with the oldest tooling but the highest price? 😂 however their sound models work out a lot better than the new kids on the block. But yeah I predict the newer tooled models from both Accurascale and Cavalex will out sell Hornby’s but who knows might get a good bargain in the sales this time next year. Cheers, Harry
There's collaboration and then more corporate espionage nonsense which I think is more what Simon was aiming at saying. With regards to why cavalex haven't "got the same treatment" two parties involved, could easily be them not engaging, both parties are capable of offering the open hand to work together and of shunning it. Unless either states what happened we don't know. People who want hornby will buy hornby, people who want accurascale or cavalex will go that way.
Hi Sam, You make some good points obviously I have just been assuming now olive branch was extended but I guess unless confirmed we won’t know for definite. And yes you’re quite right people will go for what they want or can afford. I can see the Accurascale DC version doing pretty well as it’s considerably cheaper than the others. My predictions are Hornby’s sound models will sell very well but the DC version will be in the sales by the end of next year as I can’t see anyone paying full price when the newer tooled models are both cheaper. Thanks for the comment 😊👍
@YorkshireRailways to some degree it isn't even about affordability, there are people out there who like a layout to have a seemless look, if you buy a bunch of rolling stock that has broadly the same level of detail and features then anything older or newer can just look out of place next to the rest of the stuff you run. It can be a detrimental thing to buy the latest super fancy tooling in this sense so it doesn't suprise me there are customers for all sorts. Personally, I'd struggle to justify buying the new one only to find most of the rolling stock available left wanting in terms of detail on the same level but that's me and my eyes looking at it. Rather one that looks the part in the context. So many ways people approach modelling and so mang valid reasons for both to be what someone wants
@@Samstrainsofficially that’s something I’d never considered that people wouldn’t want rolling stock and locos to look out of place so would stick to one manufacturer. It’s a great point and something that slipped my mind but I’m sure it does happen 😊👍
Thanks for the video, it prompted me to search the Class 60, I found a local retailer had a Black Friday Sale with a Hornby Class 60 "Steadfast' 60001 on sale for AUD241, about GBP124 with free postage. I snapped it up. As a fixed income modeller this is my new strategy, take advantage of the market, over the past months as overstocks have been released I have saved hundreds of dollars on great locos, including Railroad+ models with sound, and the same has been true with rolling stock, so my engine shed and carriage sidings are looking good. I know it won't last, but hey, make hay while the sun shines. ...Drew
Hi Drew, Glad to hear you’ve managed to pick up a readably priced Hornby Class 60. I have heard good things about the tooling even though it is old. However I wouldn’t be paying the new asking price. Hope you have a great time running it round your layout 😊👍
@@YorkshireRailways Thanks, I wouldn't have got it at RRP either, but the 45% discount sealed the deal ...Drew
@@drewsmodelrailwayworld4856 haha yes Drew would be rude not to at that discount 😂
I wonder if Hornby did this because specifically "Isembard Kingdom Brunel" was always in their range, and it seemed like a direct insult for Cavalex to announce that same specific loco?
Hi little Britain, thank you for the comment. I don’t think it’s an insult for Cavalex to announce “Isembard Kingdom Brunel” at the end of the day theirs was announced first. Plus Hornby could have still done it as you say it’s been a staple for their range but did they really need to do Ben Nevis to? There’s many livery options they could have chose 😊👍
@@YorkshireRailways I am just guessing as to motivation. Also - If I am not mistaken, the "old" tooling from Hornby was of their "super detailed" moniker, whereas the J52 could not have been mistaken for modern tooling.
@@little_britain who knows, only Hornby do. And yeah I’ve heard their class 60 is super detailed but compared with the new models coming out it seems it’s getting dated. But not to say the Hornby one is bad just maybe a pricing restructure making it a more budget friendly option would be better because right now I’d be going for the new Accurascale version as it’s the cheapest and will be more detailed
@@YorkshireRailways Yes, the pricing is the one thing we can certainly agree makes little sense. I have one of their super-detailed class 31s, and that is an excellent model that I picked up for £60 "nearly new"
@@little_britain time will tell, I predict many will be in the sales by the end of next year. And wow that’s a great bargain 😊
Unification could be a good thing. But it could also be an absolute disaster!!
I agree that it’s not something that should always happen. However it’s Odd they have extended the olive branch to Rapido yet not to Cavalex and Accurascale especially when their Class 60’s have been in development for ages now 😊
How are they going to do this rerun now they’ve moved manufacturing to China?!!
I imagine they moved the tooling over when they moved manufacturing. Not the first time they’ve done re runs since 2005 I imagine more have come out of China than the UK 😊
Hornby class 60 no 60081 lsambard kingdom Brunel was limited edition model for rail express magazine model number 15 i have it in my collection Accurascale class60 are name cavalex class 60 are not have Accurascale on pre-orders
Hi thanks for the comment. Which Accurascale Class 60 have you gone for? Be interested to know 😊👍
Hi, I was gutted when Cavalex pulled the plug on the class 91, Hornby’s offering isn’t that great and lacks so many features the Cavalex would have had, hopefully they will revisit the model and do it justice, class 60 wise I believe the Cavalex model will be better all round but for those on a budget the Accurascale will sell well, Hornby’s class 60 is old and doesn’t compare to its rivals models and they know it, I have a Hornby class 60 in DB Schenker livery that looks a drives very well indeed, I don’t think I need another one to be fair so I’m not that concerned although I did buy a Cavalex class 56 which is superb, thanks for sharing.
Hi Stormmy, I sadly found out about it through TH-cam not realising it had been axed. Then was gutted when I started trying to find one. And I’d be interested to know what you don’t like about the Hornby models as I’m quite a fan of it. But hopefully give a few years Cavalex will go back to it as seems most of the Hornby ones have sold out now so there will be a gap soon. And great predictions for how the new Class 60’s will be. I’m going in blind not having any locos from either Cavalex or Accurascale which I will be looking forward to receiving early next year 😊👍
Hornby's class 60 release makes sense for Hornby. The buzz of Accurascale and Cavalex class 60s will help sell Hornby's. The model has already been designed and sold by adding sound via the TXS HM7000 decoder, uplift's the model. Though, in my opinion, not he the level of the asking price.
Hi Dinmore Junction thanks for the comment. And I agree I think there definitely is a place for the Hornby version but not at the asking price. If it was significantly cheaper it would appeal to a greater audience, certainly for the DCC option it is cheaper but I would be more happy with a bigger gap from Hornby’s 2005 tooling to Accurascale’s price, the tooling costs have been payed for more than enough for the age so could easily knock out a DC version at £120 and the sound version around the £200 mark would be more sensible in my eyes. But like I said in the video time will tell if they sell as I can see the DC versions hitting the sales come next year. 😊👍
I kinda wish I could get the old pendolino train set
Hi thank you for the comment, I’ve seen a few of the Javlin ones on eBay but have to keep checking your local retailer or EBay to find one at a good price
Hi do you get any dead stops on your diamond xings going over them slow
Hi Dave thanks for the comment! And no not particularly most of my stock is long wheelbases so easily crosses the dead zone whilst being powered. I’d say the only ones that can be a bit iffy and it’s not all the time is the 0-4-0’s. But there’s ways around it if you are struggling yourself. Going DCC means you can add stay alives to your power sensitive locos so they will keep going even in dead zones or you could swap out the crossings for electro frog crossings if you are DCC and that way they don’t have a dead zone. The reason I have points and crossings that are insulated frogs is due to having a large amount of set track when building my layout. But I aim to go DCC so any issues with the locos will go when I convert. Hope this helps 😊👍
Fantastic video and excellent layout! Do you have any social media links where we can reach out?
Hi thank you so much for the comment and kind words! And my I’m available by Instagram 😊👍
Do you buy your cork from a model shop, if you did just have a look for cork you put under carpets as a roll of that is the same except it's loads cheaper
Hi thank you for the comment! I bought from a rail exhibition, the two rolls went a decent way but I do need more so thank you for the tip I will have a look 😊👍
It sounds like you’re running very similar stock to my friend Taylan, who runs a vast tonnage of modern LNER and Great Western.
I’ve got a wide spread collection at the moment mainly LNER, and I’ve been collecting Scotrail of late. But I have the odd GWR loco, LMS and southern. I’m just happy to run what I like the look of 😊👍
I’m going to start building a new layout!! I’m trying to model the Volk’s Electric Railway that runs along the Brighton seafront from Aquarium Station to Black Rock Station.
Sounds great, have fun with your new layout build 😊👍
Are you going to do the scenery? It will look even better when it’s got the appropriate scenery!!
Hello and thank you for the comment, yes planning lots of scenic detail. I want to try include a viaduct over a harbour area, coastal town area and a farm. And then a station in the centre with a depot area to the right hand side where I can stable a few of my collection on the layout as well as in the lower regions. All this is a work in progress but it’s budget dependent as to when I can complete each stage. 😊👍
Looks great cant wait to see it complete
Hello, thanks for the comment and oh me too! No rush though I’m enjoying the whole process 😊👍
Those look like ladders, which will prevent the front bogie from going round 2nd radius curves.
Hi thank you for the comment, I’ve tried it on my second radius loop recently and it does work but definitely the performance is not as good, it tends to slow down on the curves which I think is down the the large wheel configuration more than anything. So yes I would run this on radius 3 as a minimum 😊👍
It’s a typical Hornby monster!! My Hornby version of Pitchford Hall is not much better!! And she’s no blinking good at all!!
It’s not a bad loco but certainly by modern day standards it doesn’t perform as good as crawling speeds however this may vary with DCC operation, which when I make the switch I will do an update 😊👍
Let’s see if one can get it used!!
At the time of recording I did see a fair few available on EBay but there are still a few brand new at the retailers 😊👍
Personally, I’d use a locomotive like that for mixed traffic. It’s good for either freight or passenger!!
Hi Thank you for the comment. And prototypically it is a freight locomotive but yes I’ve ran it with coaches before and it does look splendid. Although I do have a rather interesting piece of rolling stock coming in a future review that looks amazing with this loco even if it’s not periodically correct, stay tuned 😊👍
is the simie fix coupling not to long ?
Hi thanks for the comment! I can’t speak for the length of the model vs prototype but I can say in terms of running I’ve had no issues this far 😊👍
Fair enough oll be picking some up soon along with the 2nd run of accurascale 66 so can't whait
@@brickleyyard4966 they pair perfectly with the Hattons/Accurascale class 66’s 😊👍
Are you stocking up on steel wagons for a forthcoming Class 60 steel on steel release?
Hi Paul thanks for the comment! And good guess I do have a Cavalex Class 60 on order but it’s in the DCR grey livery “Ben Nevis” but I have seen production images of the Steel on Steel model and it does look stunning and a worthy guess! If I had the budget I would get the steel on steel model to 😊👍
Great loco from Dapol; and I agree for the price it's good value
Thank you for the comment, glad you’ve enjoyed the review and the model 😊👍
Happy belated birthday mate.
Hi Jay thank you so much 😊👍
The class 68 is one of my favourite real-life locomotives, and I love the Dapol model. I have 4 in my collection. The only thing that lets these models down is the couplers. They seem to hang down a little and can catch on points and the like. Love the wheels with the rivet holes on the brake pads, and the representation of the roof fans is great. These do need to be run in, I find. I have the Pride of the North version and 2 standard DRS liveries and a TPE which I use with my Accurascale TPE MK5 coaches. One solution to the coupling issue is to snip a mm off the bottom of the tension lock hook. I have found this sorts the issue out. Well it has on my layout. Cannot wait for the class 88 to come out. Have two of these on order.
Hi Jonathan, thank you for the comment! And wow! You do have a good collection of Class 68’s. I do really like the model as well but yes the coupling is very annoying and funnily enough I did think the same as you have done if the bottom was a bit shorter it wouldn’t be an issue so I will end up doing that. I am looking forward to seeing the price for the 68’s much bigger brother the Class 99 that Revolution trains is producing 😊👍
Also looking forward to the Revolution Trains Class 93, especially if this is in the ROG Green as per the real thing that is currently on test.
@@jonathanmillar1975 yes it’s a fantastic loco the class 93. It was tested on my local line not that long ago. Will try get my hands on one as well, but the pre orders are starting to mount up now 😂
Yuppp!
Hi thank you for the comment! Glad you agree 😊👍
Nice review. Impressive switch interchange.
@@kennethmcintyre2847 Hi Kenneth thank you for the comment and kind words! Yes it’s a complicated one but I’m hoping one I have platforms in place it will look great and hopefully work as intended 😊👍
Wow, you got a good deal on that.
Hi Thank you for the comment! And yes not a bad price at all 😊👍
Ten quid is an absolute steal for that. Would have been nice if they come with a load like the Bachmann ones but still - really can't fault it for the price.
Hi Thank you for the comment! And yes I’m really happy for the price I managed to pick this up for. It is a shame it doesn’t have a load like the Bachmann but it is what it is, wouldn’t be hard to make one up but they do look nice mixed in with the bachmann’s rendition in a nice rake of them 😊👍
Glad you enjoyed the layout. It makes all the effort worthwhile.
@@GrestyBridge4mm. Your layout was honestly truly inspiring! Keep up the great work hope to see you again in the future. Thank you for the comment 😊👍
@@YorkshireRailways the next time you see us just say hi and I will give you a tour. We are down at Crewe in a couple of weeks time.
@@GrestyBridge4mm. that would be amazing thank you! 😊👍
Great fun at GETS watching. Buying and meeting all around model railways.
It certainly was, I think should I make the journey down again I’ll go on the Saturday so I can get more of a chance to chat to folk as it seemed really busy on the Sunday with the kids go free. Thanks for the comment 😊👍
@YorkshireRailways 3 years ago I went on a Saturday it was very busy and I found the multiple levels just added to frustration. The Warley NEC exhibition I thought was better. I intend to visit the exhibition at the NEC at the end of November and possibly the exhibition in April at the NEC too.
@@dinmorejunctionmodelrailway I can definitely recommend the key model world live show at the NEC. Very spaced out so never felt overcrowded and so many layouts and sellers that you could get round them all with enough space 😊👍
@@YorkshireRailways Excellent news. Right up my street.
The earlier versions run better in my experience.
Hi Jeffrey, interesting if that is the case how have Hornby made it worse 😂 Thank you for the comment 😊👍
@@YorkshireRailways The latest ones have sealed motors. I have one from 1995 (made in GB) and one from 2003 (made in China) and both have the traditional exposed gear arrangement. They run reasonably enough. I also had a more recent one bought from Ebay but that was not a smooth runner at slow speed, especially in reverse, so I have let that go to a new home. They all have traction tyres so I suppose the latest have had some cost saving made in the motor or in the way they are made.
Yes!! It’s a fabulous bargain!! Well done, and thank you for sharing it with us all!!
@@Madonsteamrailways I think I’ve definitely stumbled across my bargain of the year. Thanks for the comment and thank you for watching 😊👍
