Sonic 06 Physics Test

Still got a long ways to go, but hey, it's flashy.
So far we've got, in varying states of completion:
* Gravitational acceleration (gain/lose speed on slopes.)
* Speed conservation between actions (carrying speed into a jump.)
* Forced slipback on steep slopes (not pictured in this video.)
* Rotation deceleration & resistance. Easier to adjust the character at high speed, slow down when making drastic turns.
* Slope launches (carry speed in the direction you were traveling if you run off a ledge or the like.)
* Rail balancing mechanics.
* Jumping out of spin dash/jump/antigravity. The last two are accompanied with a lower jump height and an unused animation.
* Rolling.
Huge thanks to Rei-san for his DLL work. He's opened up a lotta new functions to 06's Lua scripts, including the ability to retrieve and manipulate pointers. All of this is running through Lua, and it's only possible thanks to that.

@@matthewbaker5702 Yeah it's pretty neat. 06 has an "auto dead" box around every single stage. If anything (object or player) manages to get outside of that box, the game destroys it

This glitch has been patched ever since I think the Sonic patch.
Okay, now Shadow, Sonic, AND Silver have officially said "LET'S GET MOVING!!" XD They need to bring that and "Long time no see!" back. (Though it's not really the same without the 4Kids VAs...)

@@heiseianimates787 I've been super busy, so I haven't had much time to work on it. There has been progress since the video though, and I've been getting feedback on it. I'd say mechanically, it's like 90% of the way done.

I like the way that you don't show that after that last second of the video in Kingdom Valley, you will get stuck and not be able to progress the level. Would be a cool mod , if it actually worked with the game mechanics
@@RachleRahRah Kingdom Valley works. You may be going a bit too low and missing the event trigger, though. To keep conflicts at a minimum, I tried to avoid editing any SET files. In the future, I'll see about updating it to make the transition point more obvious

If you count very hard mode, Kingdom Valley will likely hold the record for the world's longest stage in Sonic the Hedgehog history clocking in about 12 minutes and 58 seconds (If you lose rings)

Dude you're fucking AMAZING at this game! That was a sick combo! Sad that in the new 1.4 silver patch you can't do this due to level design changes and certain enemies being respawning enemies which don't give you score, so defeating them wastes time and ends your chain....sad. Still possible to get absurd points in other levels!
Thank you so much for this mod, one issue is though that the option to select the freecam does not appear if you have the DLC installed, the 1.0.2 update seems to cause a handful of mods to stop working, which is a shame as I'd love to freecam around those stages, but still I'm grateful for what we got.
I feel like instead of deleting the og giganto they just transform him into a new fight.
I would love to see this in p06 someday, it make me even play the game even more lmao, the difficulty looks really fun and it even showed me even more better understanding of the map layouts
For the super hard mode when Memphis shoots those dark ball thingys, I think they should be fast where it can be a bit aggressive with the speed of those things where it would be even more harder.

Is it possible to add and assign custom animation slots?
Sort of. Basically every animation cue from every character is available to every other character, so you've got ~200 to work with. With one of the DLL functions, you can force a player into a cue of your choice, so provided it's registered in the PKG (which is easy to do), you'll get your animation. Some states won't allow you to override the anim, though. If you're running or jumping, for instance, you can't make a different anim play through Lua. There are occasionally workarounds (like what I did to get the moonsault animation on jumping out of spin kick), but that's a case by case thing.

Are Mach Speed Sonic's physics used for his jump? Since he also carries speed into this jump.
Nah, Mach Speed jumping works the same as regular jumping in Retail, it's just harder to notice
@@fishly1016 Huh, how? I swear I keep the same speed when jumping. It's very obvious that Sonic slows down when jumping after using the Blue Gem, but you can clearly see the different when jumping at a low speed and jumping at a high speed with mach speeds, even with different camera configurations.
@@rehaansiddiqie Sorry, my initial response was slightly off. The two are very similar (and what I did in this video is completely separate), but the specifics vary a bit. Mach Speed still has a jumping speed cap, just like regular Sonic, and there's no deceleration while airborne, but there are two important differences. First, the jump speed cap is set at 100 meters/second. If you jump while above this value, you will get clamped to it (just like a regular jump), but your max run speed is 80 M/S, so you'll usually never notice this. If you light dash then keep the stick neutral, you'll move at 120 M/S (with speed decay), so you can experience it there, but it's hard to notice. Second, if you jump while below it, you're correct; Sonic will maintain his speed (just with no means of speeding up or slowing down). For regular characters, you have 2 speed values for jumping. If you jump at a standstill, you're allowed to *accelerate* up to the lower of those two values. If you jump with any sort of speed, however, you immediately get set to the higher value. The higher value is still only around 9 M/S, though (Sonic's max run speed is 17, using blue gem during that takes you to 47), so the drop-off is extremely noticeable, and if you enter a jump while below that cap (but above the other cap), you just get set to it.
