The Laws of Connection by David Robson
The Laws of Connection by David Robson is an essential read for leaders seeking to understand and improve their ability to build meaningful connections in the workplace. With increasing social isolation, this book provides practical, science-backed strategies to foster stronger relationships, which are crucial for both personal well-being and team success. Whether you're looking to enhance communication within your team or build trust with senior management, this book offers evidence-based approaches that can be directly applied to professional leadership settings.
Here are the 13 Laws of Connection:
Be consistent in your treatment of others to avoid becoming a stressful frenemy.
Create mutual understanding with others by focusing on internal experiences rather than superficial similarities.
Trust that others like you as much as you like them, and practice social skills to build confidence.
Check assumptions; focus on ‘perspective-getting’ over ‘perspective-taking’ to reduce misunderstandings.
In conversations, demonstrate active attention, engage in self-disclosure, and avoid the novelty penalty.
Praise generously, but be specific in your appreciation.
Be open about vulnerabilities and value honesty over kindness, but practice both.
Do not fear envy; share successes while avoiding comparisons, and enjoy ‘confelicity’ (shared joy).
Ask for help when needed, expecting that it strengthens bonds.
Offer emotional support, but don’t force it; validate feelings while offering alternative perspectives.
Be civil and curious in disagreements; translate opinions into the other person’s moral language.
Choose forgiveness over spite; focus on the big picture in arguments and take responsibility in apologies.
Reach out to missing people in your life to let them know they’re still in your thoughts.

The Intelligence Trap
Summary: Key Person of Influence by Daniel Priestley

I'm fascinated by influence. I've read countless books on the topic. Influence is Your Superpower by Zoe Chance, Influence by Robert Cialdini, and How To Win Friends and Influence People by Dale Carnegie. I must admit, there is a selfish reason for becoming more influential. As the tagline to Daniel Priestly's book states, you become highly valued and highly paid. You probably already know seve...

    Hi Toby, I agree that it is a good way to apply AI. Human therapists are of course human and can read body language and have much experience (this is a limitation of AI). From the other side, AI has access to all resources from 1000 top therapists all at a time (I don't think also to TH-cam videos of them, though) and that seems very powerful to me.

    Thanks for this Toby it was clear and concise. You did laugh when you spoke about needing someone to talk to, there perhaps is the elephant in the room, except you did talk about it Toby.👍🏻 Only to discover that perhaps you were prompted by this A.I. to bring up the subject… very interesting and thought provoking! Nice! It's a cool idea to make videos about this. I'm curious if you think AI like ChatGPT will help Life Coaches or hurt them. Will it push coaching more forward into culture or set it back?

    • @tobysinclair_
      @tobysinclair_ ปีที่แล้ว

      I think of AI as a complimentary tool rather than a replacement. Like a more advanced version of coaching cards. What do you think the future holds?

    • @GrahamLaight
      @GrahamLaight ปีที่แล้ว

      Life coaches will be fine for now. The better AI gets at life coaching, the more people will use them. Quick guess: life coaches will be "good enough" in about 10 years. I actually think that, right now, I could hand code a life coaching application that would be better than ChatGPT. Btw - asking questions empathetically is not enough IMO: sometimes, the client is missing a key piece of knowledge (a "blind spot"), and telling them will be enormously beneficial.
