Jump Progression! | Area 51
Made some major strides our jumping progression. Just a few months ago these jumps were very intimidating, now we are knocking them out one by one. It was a good day!

The Kings Beach downhill trail is 6.2 miles long with 1 mile of climbing in the middle. Dry conditions this summer in Tahoe caused us to have a little wash out but otherwise this was a fun mostly flowy trail!

Im planning on hitting this trail when i visit california How many miles is it? Looks dope🤙🏼
@@AdrianCampos-ev4xl it’s an 8 mile loop!
@@TheBikingViking thanks man 👍🏻 about 1-2 hour ride?
@@AdrianCampos-ev4xl 2 hours sounds right, im a little slower at the climb usually takes me like 45 mins to get to the top.
Thanks brotha im hitting el P for shure! What other trails you recomend near el p have you done cherry canyon?
Would you say i can try this on my hardtail?
I wouldn’t recommend it. There’s some pretty gnarly tech spots but if you got the skill you can do it.
I rode El P today. It's cool to see how it was different. Log crossings are all gone and stream crossings all have water now. And it looks like some of the dirt washed away so that rocky sections have more exposed rocks, growing rocks in the rock gardens! There are 2 boulders at different parts on the trail now, left from the rains early last year when there were landslides. I was there one day last February or March while it was raining lightly and all the trail builders were out on trail trying to repair the damage from the storms. They were so enthusiastic as I was going down the trail they would jump to the sides yelling at me "send it!"
Nice video! Makes me memorize my trip in the end of the 90's with a $250, 26" rim braked hardtail. The brake pads wore out in the first few switchbacks, then you can guess how fun the last of the downhill section was 😄
Is it possible do this route with 2 little girls ( 3 and 10)?
I think it maybe to difficult at that age. Especially the 3 year old. There’s steep and rocky parts of the road riding back.
Wait, this is in burbank!?
Hey Lizzy! yes indeed, it's at the top of Stough Canyon starting at the Burbank Nature Center. It's a good ride!
@@TheBikingViking I will have to take a look that is so CLOSE 4 me . Didn't even knwo this was there
Hey there! What skill level would you say is required to ride it? I’m a XC mtb’er but my friend coming with doesn’t ride at all, I’m trying to assess if it’s doable for a beginning or if I should send her back on the train and ride down solo 😆Seems like the steep sections are pretty steep and exposed, so my assumption is not beginner friendly!
No skill level required. The roads are mostly well maintained gravel. The switchbacks are somewhat scary, they're narrow and steep. But if your friend knows how to operate brakes, they're fine
The water features down at the bottom is new. I had a RokShok .. is all, hard tail.
I used to ride this years ago, ride it up and then back down. The star wars section at 1:42 ish is like you're riding a speedster through the Aspen trees. Right there at 1:51 1:52 ish I went into the creek there, I stopped and thought my buddy was going to pass me, I didn't have anything but the slope off to put a foot on, and it didn't work, I fell over into that pool, it was April and was a cold rainy/snowy day. Brrrrr I only ever wrecked twice on that trail, seen some bad wrecks.
where did you rent the bike?
At the train station in Myrdal. You need to book in advance.
@@TheBikingViking Greetings, it does not let you rent in the month of May, but I have seen people who have run in May. can you give me a website where you can rent the bike
Let’s Gooooo! 🔥🔥🔥
What date (M/D) did you do the ride? What time did you leave Myrdal? It looks like afternoon. Would you recommend an earlier departure to catch more sun in the valleys?
This was in mid/late August, weather was perfect. We actually did do an earlier ride. I think we got the first train up which was around 9-10am if I recall correctly.
@@TheBikingViking Thanks. We're going the first week in September. Hope to have the kind of weather you had. They seem to get a lot of clouds & rain. Sunlight sure makes the mountains & valleys look prettier.
not quite almost
😳 woah now
ALMOST? you nose cased it
Haha yeah it didn’t feel great
Are there places to stop along the way - if the kids need a bathroom?? And do you think it's something my 67 year old husband can do? He's a big pelentoner but I'm afraid this path is steep ...
Hello Jo, you're let off at a train station at the top which has bathrooms to use. The ride back down took us about 3 hours to get back to Flam. I don't remember any bathroom stops in between. As for your husband, I think it is doable, there is one section that is a little steep and has switchbacks but the road is wide. The majority of the ride is very mellow.
@@TheBikingViking thanks so much for this!!!!
One of the most fun Trails in the area. A weekly ride for me.
How many miles is this trail ? Looks like fun
Want to try..how long is trail and where start? Thank You
I would say the ride is about an hour or longer if you are shuttling from the top. You can also split the ride if you want to. The first section is very flowy and nice, the second half (after you cross the road the second time) it's quite rocky and technical.
Cool Thanks
What a nasty trail. Doesn't look like much fun.
It's a great trail! it has a wide variety of challenging sections.
I see that. Looks like flat city for the novice. I'm in the Auburn CA area. I think we are spoiled. That trail looks like it needs a bit of maintenance. Why didn't you move those loose boulders on the trail? Maintenance is an honor to perform and much appreciated!
I would slow the rebound down and work on perfecting some of the jumps you feel good on, to avoid positioning like 3:13 where you 'run into the lip' and the shock rebounds you up and shifts your bike off center. That shit works itself out on 5-10 foot jumps, but on all those big boiz you saw that doesn't fly. Very, very dangerous. You in LA county? I can run you through some places to get settings and positioning ready for the 15-20 footers
Thanks for the advice! Yeah that jump was hard in particular, I felt like I wasn’t holding enough speed to get across so I tried to compress before the lip and i over extended in the air and lost control. Not the normal way I like to take jumps. I’m always up for pointers in improving my jump game. I am in the LA area, Area 51 is about a 20 min drive for me. Down for any new jump progression trails.
@@TheBikingViking Alright, I'm in South LA. It's been more and more rare for me to get out due to gas prices and shit. But there is really good stuff by me in Palos Verdes. There is Fullerton which has a mixed bag of stuff you gotta pedal to. Lemme know if there's anything you know of kinda between us. I know all my friends ride Kenter and Santa Clarita but that's a shitty drive for me these days. If I go to the Area I'll message you and we can work on things there.
I curse a lot...
Nice job man, you hit a good amount of the features. I need to head back there soon. I did El Prieto today and I saw your sticker on the pole at the top. Keep Ripping brother.
Nice! We were just up on El P. We were at the top around 5:40pm. Area 51 is surprisingly progressive. If you can clear those first two doubles, you can clear a lot of the jumps. The drops are still intimidating to me.
@@TheBikingViking yeah I didnt hit all the wall drops until the last time i went and I ain't trying the further lips or that creek gap. I like living.
🚲
How U finding the bike now mate?
I rode all the trails out there constantly in the late 80s. Miss everything but the thorns! 😆
What do you do if someone is biking up the hill? Or is that a downhill only trail?
It is a one way trail, you just have to keep an eye out for other bikers and hikers.
@@TheBikingViking - Thanks
Sorry dude, the bell has got to go! The constant ringing....
Haha, I know, I dont use it much. My hydra hubs make enough noise usually but there are a lot of hikers on this trail.
Nice short! You live in this area? I ride around here all the time. Im in Atwater Village, we should try to link up sometime.
Cool channel brother!
That's a pretty good save on the rock garden crash
it was pretty mild for how bad it could have been, but I just was shocked how much it actually shook my confidence.
@@TheBikingViking Mountian biking is such a mental game. You have to skills but If you feel it, send it. If you dont feel it, comeback and try again..
Nice Vid! I’m pretty sure this is a V2 according to Evil. The one before that was the Wreckoning V1 LB and before that was just the Wreckoning. So yes it’s the 3rd one but the 2nd one was just an update to the first one not a new version. If I’m wrong, someone explain please
Hey Tylar, this is the third version of the bike since its initial release. There was the V2 LB which released in late 2018 and the original Wreckoning releasing in 2016.
Missed opportunity for Burbank/LA county to have a real trail system in the Verdugos.
Hey how many km is this trip from Myrdal to FLåm ?
It's a little over 18km. If you are looking to ride a bike, its mostly downhill or flat and it can take 2-3 hours depending on how many times you want to stop.
@@TheBikingViking tnx Im considering it en weak 42 . Is the trail easy to find when the trail stop in Myrdal ? And is there any marking s when you are on the trail
@@rasmusbinderupjohansen9171 It is very easy to find. There is a site where you can book bikes at the Myrdal train station and ride them down. The path is very easy to follow and is really just a one way road from Myrdal back to Flam. Beginners can ride this as well.
@@TheBikingViking nice tnx very much 🙋we have our own Mountainbikes but tnx anyway
Last question. How Is the condition on the road , do you think that a normal bicycle can drive these roads ?
How’s the wreckoning now that you’ve been riding it for a bit?
its a beast of a bike but its still nimble and fun to throw around! I defiantly love the bike and I am glad I got it! I just slapped some Magura M7 brakes on there to give me some serious stopping power. I was going to do a longer term review of it possibly.
Nice. I rode there a couple weeks ago for the first time. I had a blast. Still havent made an edit yet. Crazy you saw a bear.
Haha, the bear was very unexpected. I loved the trail though, you can get so much speed. I wish there was a little more tech but its an amazing flow trial for sure. Love that session jump area too!
Great video,,,just picked mine up today!😊
I just slapped some Magura M7s on them! Ready to go back to the bike park! Enjoy!
@@TheBikingViking I got it, and she is a beast😍, have yet to take it out but just wondering what psi are u running the tyres at for those trails???
Drones and stationary shots, next level

That place looks awesome mate, well done capturing it 👌 You definitely deserve more subs with that kind of great content. Happy to be one of them 👍
Thanks for the kind words! Let me know if you have any suggestions on how I can improve the videos/channel. Would love some input.
Never done El Prie, but we used to run that place hard in the 90s. We used to do the the 11 mile up hill trail and the 9 mile one that both lead up to Mt Wilson. Did that 9 weeks in a row. One of the best trails to decend up there is the Sam Merril trail. Ends up in Alta Dena.
the Dark Side ... Imperial Forces stem cap
Those jump lines at Sapwi can be a bit challenging on a mountain bike for sure. That's why the the "kids" have their dirt jumpers and BMX bikes!
I've been wanting to pull the trigger on a dirt jumper!
What kinda bike is this? Love the video.
It's the Evil Wreckoning V3! Thanks for the comment!
Is 2 hours an exaggeration? I heard 1 hour for whole loop
depends on your fitness level. The climb itself is at least 30-45 minutes depending on how much of a goat you are.
Made it look easy 🥴🤙
Do you mind sharing the location?
What kind of bike are you using in rattlesnake?
It's the Evil Wreckoning V3!
@@TheBikingViking j’like it?
@@seanray-mctighe1520 Hell yeah, I have another video on my channel talking about it.

Im surprised they open the trails in those conditions, but cash is king I guess. Were you able to have some fun at least?
