342 Miles 2023 VW ID City driving Uber
Excellent day today. 4.4m/kWh driving Uber. I have 5% degradation on 42,000 miles. 5% of 80kW battery =4. So I have in total including buffer 78kW x 4.4 = 342 Miles.
Guess o Meter displays 309 miles potential but those that includes miles I drove on my 624 mile road trip at 3.3m/kWh..reality s much higher. Calculate on 4.4
All City driving except 15 miles interstate , 78-82 degrees
20 inch tires , no ac.
If you are new to EVs this type of range is about the best you'll evr get in the ID 4. Spring , no heat no ac no snow tires and 95% city driving.
avergae is 250 miles year round for me here in Minnesota.

    Very cool test, but still everyone should understand that this is not good for the battery. If this happens only few times, it's probably fine, but it's better not to go to low SOH regularly

    the amount of heat is worked out primarily by how good you room is insulated for example a 3m long x 3m wide x 3m high say its 0°c outside and all you walls gave R2.4 (1")insulation and you want it to be 22°C inside , you'll need 2.3w energy per square meter of insulated wall surface or 2.5Kwh to maintain that heat. If you install R20(8") insulation you only need 0.248W per square meter of wall surface so 1/10 of the power or 0.3Kwh or 300watts per hour so even then a 25w heater will do nothing, make the room smaller maybe

    Minor correction, you want to bottom balance your pack prior to start top balancing. Bottom balancing triggers when battery pack is under 12% SoC with ambient temperature between 56 to 80F when parked in well ventilated space. This requirement was suggested by VW techline to workshops when performing battery degradation measurement.

    Hello from Colorado, I just stumbled upon your channel! Funnily enough, I was born and raised in northwest Minnesota in a little town of about 700 people. Oh, and I also happen to be a Lyft and Uber driver so I am really interested in your opinion. Anyway, I am looking to buy an ID.4 Pro S AWD or the Pro S Plus AWD trim, and I wanted to get your thoughts on the vehicle. I know it has software issues, but how has VW been concerning software updates to improve upon it? Have you had many issues with the vehicle, and if so, how has the service been? What do customers think of the vehicle? Do you recommend buying the vehicle? What are you averaging for mileage in both the city and highway? Since you have AWD, what trim do you have then, the Pro S or Pro S Plus? About 90% of my miles will be in the city, so I am more concerned about what my average mileage/kWh is when driving around the city at an average speed of 25 MPH or so. How much is the cold weather zapping your range? I will likely be driving when in weather that ranges from 20 degrees to a high of 60 degrees, so I would be interested in getting feedback from you. I am concerned about the cold weather since it doesn't even come with a heat pump, and efficiency is a concern of mine because I only have Level 1 charging in my apartment garage, and I don't want to DCFC unless I absolutely have to. I only put on about 70 miles per day at most, and with Level 1 charging, I will be able to charge about 21 kWh per day. So basically, it would be nice to average roughly 3.5 kwH per day. Do you think that's achievable with pretty much only putting on miles in the city? And just to add some context, the reason that I am looking at the ID4 is that there is a huge discount on it out here, and it is like a normal ICE vehicle. For example, it has normal door handles, so at least I don't have to tell passengers how to open the door like you have to do with some EVs with flush door handles. Or you don't have to tell them how to close the door like you do on the Ioniq 5. Some dealerships out here are offering discounts of about $10,000 to get the vehicles out the door, so with all my discounts and rebates, I can buy the ID.4 Pro S Plus AWD for around $31,000 plus sales tax, registration, and title so call it $34,000 when it's all said and done. Plus, I would qualify for 3.9% financing, which would also end up saving me a few thousand dollars. Anything else you want to chime in about, be my guest. And if you made it this far, thanks for taking the time to read this. Have a great day!

      Morning banellie. $31k-$34k excellent prices. IMPORTANT .. If it is from a dealer have them check which battery is in them.. It wil be either LG or SKi.. if possible get the SKI .They seem to charge faster when you do use DCFC. I have never een at a DCFF for more than 30 minutes with my 2023 with the SKi battery. always gets to at least 80% and by that time you want to get back on the road anyways. Once charging speeds slow down below 70-80kW . always start your charge when you are below 20$ soc that ensures you'll get fast DCFC speeds. 70 miles a day you are absolutely fine using the 110 thats in your garage. I run the 2023 AWD Pro S and passengers love it especially the big roof. In summer you will get 3.5m/kWh + running around the city, 2.8 or so on the hwy. My average over 37,000 miles is 3.0m/kWh includes all winter and "idiling" waiting for passengers. You definently want awd considering you are in Colorado. Software is not an issue , they fixed all the bugs . The only isue is that is that the screen actions are not snappy fast , a slight 1/4 second delay . Really not a big deal. Android auto WITH UBER shows up on the screens display now !! So that is a big plus. It allows your passengers to see the route and feel more comfortable seeing where you are taking them and thy canshout out if they prefer a different route to their destination or is they enter the wrong address. Lots of room for pasengers and luggge. I'll put a link to some almost custome fit seat covers if you want to keep your original seats in perfect condition. Good Luck !

      @@electric-rideshare Thanks for the quick reply and information! I used to live in Roseville when I went to school at the UofM in the Twin Cities, so I know the layout pretty well. Are you mainly driving in the cities, or Alexandria? (One of your videos had you charging in Alexandria...nice golf course there btw.) Out of curiosity, are you on the interstate quite a bit, or are most of your miles mainly going 20 to 45 MPH in the city (like me)? I don't know the city of Alexandria to know what driving is like there. I am just wondering if I might be able to pull 4 miles per kWh under optimal driving conditions in my city. It is the SKI battery, but I doubt I will even use DCFC once per year (maybe if I have to drive to Denver when it is freezing outside). However, having the SKI battery will likely make it easier to sell the vehicle, or possibly even get a bit more money for it. I use Apple Carplay, so I hope Uber and Lyft show up on the screen. Would you happen to know if they do? (I just assumed they did, so why didn't Uber show up with Android?) I only do rideshare up to 3 hours per day, and I don't put on many personal miles, since I get all my shopping done when a passenger destination brings me close to a store that I want to shop at. And when I do go hiking during the spring through the fall, I only have to drive about 10 miles each way to get to my destination, so hopefully Level 1 charging meets my needs. It wouldn't surprise me if I could get up to 4 miles/kWh if I drive smoothly, and the weather is nice outside. Also, I should ask you, but where do you park your vehicle? Outside, in a garage, or in a heated garage? Since my EV will be parked in a heated garage at 70 degrees, the battery won't have to heat the ID4 up to 70 degrees or whatever, so that should help with my efficiency. I live in an apartment and rent a garage, and I actually get "free" electricity and heat since each garage doesn't have its own electricity meter :). I don't do airport runs here since the airport is over an hour away, but you're right about the ID4 having a lot of space. Going to the airport means that I pretty much have to deadhead back home, so those trips aren't worth taking (I did it once and never again, lol). For Uber, we are in a rate card market, so I can't see the destination until I actually start the trip, which really sucks. With Lyft, we have upfront pay and destination, but the pay is worse with Lyft, especially since they don't have an EV bonus like Uber does (granted, they just cut their EV bonus again, even with EV values plummeting.) And for you, interesting times are ahead with all that is going on with the rideshare market in Minnesota. I don't know how all that is going to shake out, but what I do know is that currently, being a rideshare driver is tough for the majority of drivers. My rate card for Uber is 82.5 cents per mile and only 12 cents per minute, but there are a lot of deadheading miles here too. I try not to have to drive more than 6 minutes to pick up any passenger, but sometimes I can't be that picky due to it not being busy enough.

    We have had a real mild winter here in Minnesota , very little snow. I was considering removing my sow tires but every year we get hit with at least one major snow storm during college basketball tournament and sure enough , we received about foot of snow over 2 days . I am also testing a new dashcam, It is the FitCam that looks oem, it is hidden inside the cover above the rearview mirror. So perfect for driving uber and lyft where sometimes in an out of the car alot station breaks, lunch break so if you forget to lock your door no one is going to steal it becauuse they wont even know it is there. Not the best video but great for backup and will hold at least 256gb card. If you are looking for your first EV fo runnng rideshare the ID 4 really working well. All the 2023s have big discounts now that the 2024s are coming in. Make SURE to get one with the SKi battery not the LG . The SK charges faster and charges faster even in cold weather without preconditioning. It can peak dcfc roughly 190kW.

When they first installed them they didnt allow non teslas to get full charging power, assuming they were playing it safe making sure everything worked acorss all the ccs vehicles before the upped the charging speeds. So were all just happy to see we are getting full charging speeds on our non teslas from the SuperChargers.

    That's fantastic in those temps considering the ID.4 doesn't have battery preconditioning. So it seems that Tesla SC have no problem getting ID.4 the kW even with a cold battery.

    • @electric-rideshare
      @electric-rideshare 3 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Even before the update I was able to pull 135kW on a cold battery/day(starting low soc). But yes nice to see Tesla update the software to allow full charger/deliver whatever the vehicle is asking for. The most important thing though is starting ith a SOC well below 20% (I started at 10% on this charge,.starting out @ 140 or so) hit 179 after 5-6 minutes .) I see so many drivers, not just ID 4 but other brands as well complaining because they are only pulling 60-80kW even on a warm battery ..then you find out they are trying to charge when thier battery is already 30-40-50% SOC. Just an educational/learning process . Be really nice ot have the battery preconditioning in the ID 4 but ID owners can still get very good charging speeds ..if/when they learn to wait and charge when below 20% I'm going to head back to the MagicDock in a few days and do a full 10%-80% vid. should be right at 30 minutes. Also going to be doing a 600 mile road trip and show how to do it on $5 with the ID 4 Have a great day !

      Thank you, you as well. I'm looking forward to your future videos, as they are very informative. I shared your video on Reddit and Facebook ID.4 forums. One commenter mentioned something that I noticed but knew how you meant it. The commenter said your title reads as you achieved these charging speeds in -35°F temps not 35°F temps, but I realize you just put a dash in there to separate the outside temp from the main part of the title, but it might confuse other viewers just FYI. Keep up the great videos and I look forward to watching all your future ID.4 content. By the way I'm a subscriber with a 2023 ID.4 S RWD with the 62 kWh battery. It's been fantastic and I've had it on a few road trips so far. My longest was 3 weekends ago I took a 762 mile road trip across my home state of Kansas across I-70 charging at only EA stations. I was achieving 125 kW peak speeds in 45°F temps with 15-20% starting SOC. The max charging speed on the 62 kWh battery is only 140 kW I believe.

    I have a 2022 ID4 Pro S AWD, I would never run my battery that low, in day to day driving around town, I keep my battery in the 40-80% range, right in the middle with 20% being the low and 80% the top, I almost exclusively charge at home, sometimes on my 240 volt level 2 charger, and sometimes I only need my 120 volt 16 amp level one, I want my battery to last, running the battery down to zero is like driving an ICE car with not enough oil in the engine.

    • @electric-rideshare
      @electric-rideshare 3 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Same here, almost exclusively charging at home. Perfectly fine to run your battery between 10% - 90%; you have large buffers at the bottom and top of the battery. Zero chance of hurting your battery. That's the point of the buffer; its main job is to protect from overcharging and allows the heat to dissipate. It's why when at DCFC, your charging slows down to less than 60kW after 80% charge and goes lower. This video is about what to do in an emergency, for example, on a road trip when you are not sure you can make it to the charger, showing you exactly how much buffer is in the battery. It's kind of like when you see your gas car is on empty but it's your car and you know it's not really on empty, that there is still enough gas in the bottom of the tank to get you another 5 miles

      I didn’t buy my ID4 for road trips, I know some people only have one car, but I have three, we usually take the Honda Clarity PHEV for road trips, it gets about 42 mpg at 75 mph, has a 325 mile range on gas, with a 40-45 mile EV range in reserve

    Thanks for the great video. I was hoping you could give me some advice. I have been having constant problems with my infotainment screen on my 2018 premiere. For the past 5 months it has gotten more and more unreliable, totally freezing, not booting up properly or having lines going through the whole thing. I took it to the dealership today and the nice lady there told me that she would charge me 260 bucks to diagnose it, but she has seen these types of problems before and it usually meant totally replacing the infotainment center all together. Currently, we have to do the "reboot" trick almost daily, and sometimes that does not even work. Also, I called the EV concierge, and they offered no solution. The dealer did mention that they saw a code U18B4 Loss of communication with radio on ethernet bus. What do you think I need to replace?

    On a side note try not to run your battery down very often like this as it may very well degrade your battery faster and may void your batery warrenty (not likely but possible). This is for emergency use only , when the last DCFC charger was not working and you need to make it to the next Charger 5 miles up the road ., that type of situation. Also If you are considering aTesla VS a VW ID 4. consider this . Lets say after 8 year or 100,000 miles both batteries are know out of warranty . If one cell in the Tesla Battery pack goes bad you have to replace the entire battery ! So current prices 17-25k. In the VW ID 4 , the dfference is that the ID 4 the HV battery is made up of 288 battery cells across1 2 Modules so if one battery cell goes bad you dont replace the whole battery just replace the Module that contains the bad cell 1k-2K for the module

    You can look at the arrows on two sides. If its bright white you can change the lane. And dim white means there is car approaching or beside your car.

    • @electric-rideshare
      @electric-rideshare 7 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Yep same thing as blue/black lanes.

  • @electric-rideshare
    @electric-rideshare 7 หลายเดือนก่อน

    Always check your mirrors as well as yellow warning light on mirrors..never rely on media screen for approaching vehicles Come to think of it the least expensive solution would simply use stoplight colors , green lane mean no vehices coming up you can "go" to that lane, Red lane means vehicles spproaching do not proceed into lane. That requires nothing more than changing some digits ina line of code.

    do you have to pay and what adapter?

    • @electric-rideshare
      @electric-rideshare 7 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Yes you still pay regular Tesla charging Fees. No you no not need anyother adapters. Thats what the Tesla Magic dock is. Download the Tesla APP and it will ask if you are charging a Non Tesla , if so it will show you Tesla Superchargers with the Magic Dock adapter and it will walk you through how to connnect. very easy. I'll put a "how to connect video" up in a day or 2.

    • @electric-rideshare
      @electric-rideshare หลายเดือนก่อน

      dell the "adapter" is built into the Charger/dispenser. there are only around 45 TeslaMagic dock locations in the USA. That said VW will be joining the NACS charging standard and owners with CCS VW like the ID 4 will eventuually get an "adapter" (almostt exactly like on the magicdocks) that you can then use on almost all Tesla SuperChargers . all new VW (and fords , GM ev etc..starting in 2025/26 will have the NACS connection as standard instead of the current CCS ) so those new vehicles wont need the Adapter .. actually they WILL need a CCS adapter then to use like EA, Chargepoint etc..

  • @electric-rideshare

    Just a quick note. This test is on a 2023 VW ID 4 with the SK battery. Every EV is programmed differently . For example if I had done this with my 2017 Chevy Bolt it would have stopped in the middle of the road. The Bolt has NO bottom buffer in the battery. Thanks guys please considering thumbing up and subscribing !

    Thanks for this video. 2 contributions: -I was able to get at the display without pulling the passenger side trim all the way off. I was just able to bend it out of the way. -Parts are harder to find in 2023. I got a 2020 Bolt's touchscreen, and it DID NOT fit my 2017. So, no joy for me on replacement. But I still appreciated the video.

    That was interesting. My touch panel doesn't function correctly during rainy weather. I am sure Chevy will want an arm and a leg to replace it on my 2017. I due have an extended warranty, but suspect it doesn't cover this kind of repair. Anyway, your video indicates its replacement is no big deal.

  • @dennislyon5412

    Interesting experiment. To convert 7.5kw of energy to heat up coolant to then pump this coolant through a heater core and then blow a fan through the heater core to move the heat to the car interior - lots of opportunity for inefficiencies in that plan. Having a smaller heater (1000 W?) for steady state once the car has warmed up would possibly be a next step for PTC heater usage in BEV cars. This seems to prove that point?

    Did the 2019 screen function correctly on your 2017 bolt? I need to replace the screen on my 2017, but I am concerned the 2019 version wont fit. They have different part numbers on the GM parts websites.

      Hey Scott. The 2019 Display/Screen is a perfect match. Yes, everything functions as it should. I have the 2017 Premium with heated seats etc and the 2019 Display works perfect. The ebay seller was honest and the display new. appreciate it if you would sign up and post .. get your order. I see he has a couple left. and let us know how the install goes. evcounts.com/index.php?threads/installing-new-display-on-chevy-bolt-2017-2019.167/#post-391 $129 shipped is the best price I could find. Dealer is going to want $800-$1200 . You CAN install this yourself. Not that difficult. I'll be more than happy to walk you through it if you need help.
