my first NZ catfish

shot my very first New Zealand catfish not very big but hard to see to shoot with the bow
Not for me. I prefer the option to catch & release with minimal damage.
That was pretty cool. Liked and subscribed to your channel. Keep up the good work. Tight lines
I appreciate it! I subscribed you have heaps more target fish over there for bow fishing than Us in New Zealand
Private farm in meremere
nice shot, where about this place
Great shooting mate. That spot looks great!
Well come back bro !😀
Thanks it's been a while I lost motivation over the colder months to do videos but was still bowfish spawn is coming up so you might see more videos going up.

Where about are you roughly ?
Mercer just past Auckland Nz
You have to make more!!! Want views? -> *Promo sm*!!
Rest up Richard. Hope you heal up over Christmas.
Thanks got to get better before next week's hunting least I saved the bow lol
Bloody dangerous that turkey hunting😁 Have a Good Christmas and heal up, how's the koi hunting? Thinking of giving it a go
Very bad day between 4 of us only got about 7 koi might get a few vids done as I can't mow the lawns at moment lol
Wow so many of them boss which location is that? I live in Auckland
Rangariri
Was there briefly on Sun 4/12/22 .Waikato was a lot higher than this at the gate it was 7 + mtrs water high.Water was up over the little white pipe so I never saw the line of tyres . Sad to see and smell all the rottting carcasses just left in the water and grass and not disposed of diseasing the evironment. 5 less than b4 in 3/4hr thats enuf- removed what I shot so as to not provoke the erection of high wire fences and loosing the privilege of access altogether. Id encourage all other Bowfishers to be more considerate and take a $3 roll of black rubbish bags easily picked up from any supermarket with them to take away what you shoot and always KEEP N.Z CLEAN - as its always good respect for Tangaroa( Seas ,lakes and rivers) to take our rubbish drink bottles dead fish etc with us ,leave gates as you find them either open or closed etc in all good sportsman like no dramas fashion so all can enjoy access freely.
I haven't been there for awhile once they put the sire across so I can't drive up there I'm to lazy to walk lol been fishing mercer on a private farm but will be doing whangape stream this Sat
nice fish
Thanks 👍
amigoo,you uploaded gorgeous - =)
Thanks for the visit
That looks a good spot where is that got 5 in two days in my neighbours paddock which isn’t great saw heaps more next year I reckon I am going to get a gill net and put it across the whole paddock and hopefully get them all but I did get my first two in one shot which I am quite proud of 😊
Floods are helping watch part 51 for something different its a bit long but was fun
@@harbruharbru when’s that
@@benturner9246 should be out soon
Great video the river I go bowfishing is starting to clear up so it should be good shooting soon 😊
This stream is always this colour the lake that feeds it is never clear
Where is this spot
@@shyleef9695 Whangape stream Glen Murry rd
@@harbruharbru cheers thanks !!
wicked shot
Less go mate 100 subs nice shoot, like the other guy has said haven’t seen many in the Waikato river but out huntly seen a head in farms and stuff good work love the vids
I have not seen a carp in our river for couple of months must be to cold or something probably have to wait while
Where abouts is your area heaps about the lower part some are spawning
@@harbruharbru puniu river
I would of thought with any flooding they would be out in force feeding this week even though the water has dropped a couple of feet they are still here in good numbers shot one at 11lbs snd 800mm long
Wow the river has expanded wide hugely alright-👍 Know the spot 🤐🏹🏹🚷👈Signage by land owners on other side of river there👆
I have permission from both sides to fish below the bridge down to the mouth of the river 20 taken from that spot on sat with be at the other spot this sat by the express way
I went out before and couldn't find many lol
Looking the wrong places lol
Wow you lads are killing em , lots to be shot I see and pretty easy access too. Good vid What was the final tally ?
About 20 but the other guy shot 20 before I got to second location and he went back the next day got 20 more
@@harbruharbru were these flooded farmlands? I had no idea carp had gotten to the point that they even spill out into flooded paddocks, that's crazy how many there are!
@@zeocen yes they come out onto the freshly flooded fields to look for food that bit in the video of all those fish was even deeper this weekend still got rain warnings so should be another good weekend
@@harbruharbru I bet they would be great fun on light fishing gear too, wish I could get to some in Auckland - they must be very invasive to be so many !

I was looking for some carp as our river flooded into the paddocks next to it but I can’t see any
took over 30 from there yesterday and same again today
@@harbruharbru far out good on you
Nice head shot !! Can we do this all year round bro ? Do we need license?
Slows down in winter but yes all year round don't need a license as Koi are a pest if you are going onto the doc lakes and swamps you need a permit but that costs nothing
Watching your videos has inspired me to get a bow, hope to head down from Auckland in the next week or so. And I will be using them for snapper bait if I get any, used to be able to buy frozen Koi as bait
Thank you fishing has been a bit hit and miss at the moment Aka Aka has a few fish about but I got nothing on Friday saw a few but my aim was off. Don't season starts soon so beware where you go as we hunt the same areas as duck shooters. I always wear a hiviz vest when out during duck season.
@@harbruharbru Thanks never thought about the duck hunters might have to take my hard hat too. Does a bit of wet weather improve the fishing?
@@onemoredeadman the easy answer is sometimes when the streams flood the fish have more area to feed on the banks etc but also the water gets muddy making the fish harder to see also the koi don't seem to like fast flowing water and stay to the slow moving waters if you have small boat there are plenty of areas if you pound the banks like me there are less areas
@@harbruharbru Thanks been looking on Google maps and other videos hope to get out and give it a crack soon
@@onemoredeadman check out the koivid files videos they were all around Aka Aka during our Auckland lockdown the others are around Rangariri area
Nice fish I have lately shot a big 10 pound fish and today shot a 6 and half pound one .
Nice been very hit and miss with the fish lately need a good rain
What am I looking for?
front end of a boat buried in the mud about middle of the picture
You should go to lake ngaroto there is a algae bloom that is killing thousands of koi and all the survived carp are trying to escape the lake going down the drains I shot over 25 in only 1 hour and a half.
I thought of going there but figured the fish were having a hard enough time without my help also the smell would be bad I thought and not very photogenic lol
@@harbruharbru yeah it smells really bad and does not look nice
I have had a successful few weeks bow fishing koi .but i hate it when you shoot a fish and it swims out in the open and comes of.
I would love to try some of the heads from archery direct but scared I won't be able to pull them out of the mud if I miss the fish maybe archery direct would send us some to try 🤔
www.archerydirect.co.nz/fishing/bowfishing-accessories/bowfishing-points
@@harbruharbru the point is really sharp I think it is the barb not working good
@@benturner4966 the ones in the link look to have larger barbs I have had fish rip out their own stomachs to pull off the barb those look to be mechanical barbs that pop open on impact
Mint stint bro.
I have lately shot a big 7 pound fish full of eggs and also shot another one but the stupid thing came of
Good size these were just small.i find trying to pull them up through the grass can pull them off before I can get them up from the water
What do you do with the carp after shooting it?
I just bury mine in the ground no one I know wants them for burly
@@harbruharbru have you tried using carp meat as bait for salt water fishing?
@@Maxximoto1 no I haven't alot of people do use it for burly but I haven't tried it might have ago over xmas
@@harbruharbru I want to try using Koi meat for salt water fishing this holidays. Let me know how you go with using the Koi meat bait.

Good stuff mate, can’t wait to see you back in action at rangiriri
Thanks Looks like December sometime from what the Govt said today can't wait for the cleaner water and bigger fish
@@harbruharbru finally some good news. Can’t wait, will have to come round and link up for a shoot.
Where did you get your bow from?
my brother sent it from the states its made by Southwest archery model is Spyder takedown 62inch 40 ib draw sort of a clone of the Semac Sage I think
Good stuff Richard, great watch.
Wish I could be down your area better selection of species......clear water would be nice lol
@@harbruharbru I know what you mean, can’t wait to get back up to Huntly and rangiriri. The Waikato river will have to do for now haha.
Nice shooting and filming mate, what do you do with the fish?
I just compost them none of the guys I know who fish don't want them unless already made into burly.sometimes can be 30lbs of fish I end up digging into the ground.if I had a bat I would use myself but haven't found a dingy cheap enough yet and still trying to fit outriggers to my Canadian canoe
I only go to Aka Aka when lockdown is in effect or weather is really bad
Nice what month do they usually spawn
Sept - Dec is the main spawn I have found a few spawning at other times usually when the water starts to get warmer
What pound bow
