    Thanks for this video. Sometimes, my final prints end up with tiny white specks in different places. I'm not sure if it's lacing or maybe not enough paint? Also, I placed a sheet of copy paper on the top of the plate to store and the next day the paper was covered with oil and the face of my plate was cloudy not clear as the day before. Should I wash it to get back the clear surface? It's a new plate.

    • @leonieandrewsart4137
      @leonieandrewsart4137 27 วันที่ผ่านมา

      Thanks for your questions. The white specks could be lacing or missing paint. The lacing often has a halo around it. Often the white specks is just where the paint doesn't pick up off the surface. I wouldn't worry about the gelli plate not being clear. Over time they start to turn a bit more opaque. I would leave it as is. I generally only wash it to remove stubborn dried on paint.

    I had some very good success with a gel plate, a maple leaf, several colours, fabric medium and some poly cotton fabric...There was no drying time in between so the process was very fast. I think I played for an hour and ended up with 18-20 very different but similar 6x5" scraps of fabric. The intent was to play and the cuts were rough so quilting them now will be a challenge because they are varied sizes, but honestly they are so beautiful. Nice demo. Is is necessary to heay-set the printed fabric? And do you find that prints on poly/cotton prints are weaker in strength or that once washed several times that the colour washes away more quickly?

    • @leonieandrewsart4137
      @leonieandrewsart4137 3 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Thanks for watching and your questions. I do heat set anything that is going to be washed. I mainly use my fabrics for quilting, so they only really have light washes. I haven't noticed any difference in the print quality between polyester and cotton fabric. If I was printing for a garment then I would use either fabric paint or definitely a textile medium with any general acrylic. I would heat set both. I always wash my printed fabrics in a mesh bag and on a short cycle, not a regular washing cycle. Hope this helps.

    I want to print layers on cotton cloth using dry procion dye mixed into paint with print paste. So far, I haven't gotten a reasonable method. This comes the closest I've seen. I'd particularly lile to use leaves and get their detail. Is this possible? Are you or anyone you've come across doing this?

    • @leonieandrewsart4137
      @leonieandrewsart4137 5 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Great idea Gale! I have used dried dyes in a similar way, but using it for more monoprints using screen-printing techniques. I do think using a gelli plate would work well with leaves. I haven't done much exploration along those lines. I would suggest you try laying a fairly thin layer of print paste down and pressing your leaves back side down to get the impression. Then, I would take the leaf off the plate and take my print. It might be a bit fiddly to tidy up around them, but I'm sure you could do it. I'd be happy to give it a try and see what works best, if that is of interest to you. If you give it a go please let me know how you go with it.

    Another way to pick up a good print is to let the stencilled paint dry on the gel plate then brayer over the plate with undiluted fabric medium. Then lay the fabric on top, press down with a baren and let the fabric dry. Admittedly I have not tried this on commercially printed fabric however it does work on (cotton sateen) fabric, on which I already have printed multiple layers. This allows me to pick up whatever is on the gel plate without adding another layer of colour to the plate. Have heat set the fabric (Easy Press 205 degrees 30 seconds each side) and all layers are retained when washed in warm/hot soapy water. I use screen printing ink (Speedball, Versatex, Permaset) rather than paint as I think it leaves a softer hand.
