เข้าร่วมเมื่อ 19 ก.ค. 2016
Hello Everyone! One of my favorite things to do is sew with my friends. Since many of you are a long way from me, I thought I would start a TH-cam channel called Sew Along with Jan so we could virtually sew together every day! I will have regular sew along projects, embroidery projects and software projects.

A couple of weeks ago, I made a video called SVG Files and the Brother Scan N Cut: th-cam.com/video/cY6vFovNqe8/w-d-xo.html
In that video we discussed fabric (embroidery) SVG files, large project style SVG files, and layered SVG files. In this video we will create a Layered SVG project from start to finish, using the technique I introduced in the first video. Let's have some fun with the Scan N Cut!

SVG Files and the Brother Scan N Cut May 15, 2024 SVG files and the Scan N Cut don't always played well together. The native format for the Scan N Cut is FCM, so SVG files sometimes come in to the machine or the software at the wrong size, or can even be layered together and you can't really see the separate parts. In this video we will discuss three different categories of SVG files and how I ...

Thank you. Do you ever save each layer with its own name & number so you don’t have to keep going back and forth to your laptop? If not, then why? Thanks. A newbie in NH.
Yes Joanne, you can absolutely save each layer to your laptop, machine, or USB. So often I'm only cutting these once, so I just work from the software. It's also great practice! Glad you enjoyed the video
how do u get the enhanced tracing tool.
Hi Jackie! I think it has been discontinued, but you might still find it at a dealer. Here is the model number CACVPPAC2. Premium Pack 2
Hi from Florida
Hi Connie!
Thank you, Jan. I've had a Scan N Cut for many years and am pretty good with it and Workspace. HOWEVER, your inquisitive mind is discovering some exciting features. I'm learning from you, and I love to learn. Thanks for your tutorials and well thought-out teaching style. Subscribed today. Kay in Dallas, Texas
You are very welcome, Kay! I have struggled cutting these SVG files for years and was just determined to figure out how to cut them on my Scan N Cut. So glad I could help you too!
@@sewalongwithjan A couple of things, as you have time. One thing I'd suggest - if moving the design to a different location than what originally came in - save the file so you can retrieve it. If the cut wasn't clean, you can reload the mat, and if you didn't move the media, you can recut. The machine will read the mat's registration marks. Also re the 60-degree blade, have you tried it on the Dollar Tree cutting mats? I've wondered if it would ruin the blade. Thanks for your time, and just when you get a chance. ...
You can absolutely do that if you think you will need to cut again. I so rarely need to cut over, so I just go for it! No I have not tried the dollar tree mats in my Scan n Cut, but do have one I use in my Cricut Joy.
Thanks for the info on the vinyl blade. Do you use it when cutting fabric or do you use the fabric blade? And do you know if the fabric blade a 60 or 45 degree angle blade?
Hi Katherine! I use the Black Auto Blade to cut fabric with Heat N Bond on the the back. If I need to cut fabric without Heat N Bond I use the Tan Fabric Auto Blade with the fabric prepared with Terial Magic. I use the Rotary Auto Blade to cut hard to cut fabrics (felt, stretchy, wool, wool felt etc). The Tan Fabric Blade is a 35 degree blade. Here is a link to my other Scan N Cut videos. There are several fabric videos in the Playlist: th-cam.com/play/PL_202AP_6OhV6jQXuU8wbDM92srBYwvB_.html
Jan, im sending you hugs and kisses. I have purchased some designing tree svgs and for the life of me I cannot imagine how to make them work for me. Thank you for sharing your talents.
You are welcome, Gail! I love their things too. Glad I could help.
I like your calm demeanor as you teach us the ‘how to’s’ with svg, canvas etc… i am newbie 099 with experimenting the various files importing/exporting. Thank you! The project piece is gorgeous. Will re watch this tutorial.
Thanks Michelle! So glad you enjoyed the video
Interesting information on the blades. Do you still use the vinyl auto blade to cut your vinyl? I do a lot of intricate paper cutting with the regular auto blade with acceptable results, but I am going to use the vinyl blade next time to see if the results are a cleaner cut. I don't cut much vinyl anyway. Does the vinyl blade last longer than the regular blade by chance?
I use the old Standard Blade (teal) from my CM machie to cut vinyl. I have never had consistant results cutting vinyl with the half cut function. The Vinyl Auto Blade being a 45 degree blade does a great job cutting detailed paper. Here is the link to my vinyl video using the Standard Blade: th-cam.com/video/kwiNEAj_3-E/w-d-xo.htmlsi=6WOBu3FE6j3Boz1c
@@sewalongwithjan Thank you! I will check it out.
Oh my, those address beautiful! Thank you Jan. Maybe I'll use my scan and cut a little more!
Thanks, Maureen! Glad you enjoyed the video.
Thank you so much! My grandkids love this saying so much. What a gift you have given us.❤
So glad you like the pillow, Minnie! Enjoy!
I purchased the vinyl blade from Amazon. Didn't know to register it & no longer have the card. Is there any way to register it now?
Hi Lucile! You need an activation code that was in the card that came along with the Vinyl Auto Blade to register the software upgrade and get the designs.
@@sewalongwithjan Thank you so much for your help. Guess the only answer is to buy another vinyl blade.
@@lucilecamp975 Unfortunately, I think that is the case.
This makes me want to get the June quilt design. Good tutorial. My 9x12 hoop (Quattro 2) is also snug. I put a drop of Sewer's Aid on the slider, and it helped a little. Thanks again. Kay in Dallas, Texas

Awesome Video. Thank you for sharing... I've had my SDX325 for about 6 months now and I really like it. Unfortunately, I'm disappointed that Brother has discontinued so many of the premium features. Now, I miss what I don't have. LOL
I have the SDX230D and really like it. Yes, I'm disappointed that Brother discontinued some of the Premiums as well. I really like the rhinestones and the stamp kits!
Hi, Jan. Thank you for the class. Questions - Where did you find the ScanNCut SVG file? And, where/when would you use the Paper Piercing tool?
There is a piercing kit and makes a beautiful decorative edging on cards and such. The SVG's that I used in this class were from Birds Cards. The rolled flower design
Thanks so much. I wanted to use the download version for more capabilities but couldn’t figure it out!
I've resisted this version of the software for quite awhile. I'm getting used to it now and it has more capabilities than the online version.

The PC version of Canvas Workspace has been a challenge for me. I'm doing much better now.
Jan, you are so intelligent; figuring this software out and manipulating the size with a custom mat shows what a genius you are!!
Not sure that genius is the right word, but I'm determined that's for sure!
Thank you very much, Jan. Great class!
