Interestingly, the tone is kinda “mapely” and “sandy” and still very “vocal”.
Matt is such a great player!!!! His soulful voice and and amazing Bluesy licks make him one of the best players today! Would absolutely love to see him live!!! Hope he comes to Denver!!!
Not a good singer, but a great player!
Matt Schofield always has those jazz/blues melodies stacked up in a holding pattern ready to unleash in turn. Surgically precise guitar playing few others besides Josh Smith can keep up with.
Great song. Exceptional playing Matt. Love the Hendrix and SRV references in the solo as well as the univibe.

11's get the sweet tones...... but can you handle it... yeah you can..it's a new world and bluer....
I've found this can be really guitar specific, some guitars like the big strings and others actually start sounding muddy or dead with heavy strings. Some sound huge and sustain for days with light strings, others sound thin and weak with light strings. Just gotta try them on your guitar and see what happens.
I couldn’t agree more. I used to use 11’s for years but I switched to 10’s and my guitars feel and sound much better to me now. More bounce, less stiff sounding. More space for harmonics :) just my opinion though.
@@milesharris335 I used to have two Teles, one sounded AWESOME with 11s, the other sounded AWESOME with 10s. Neither one sounded good if you swapped them around though. Really opened my eyes to the idea that I need to try different things on each specific guitar. Just because I liked it on one didn't mean I'd like it on all of them, even if they were the same model/style of guitar.
@@milesharris335 I use 9's on my prs cu24 and it sounds great while on my 335 I use 10's

George, just listened to this for the 1st time and was about to post about the Hendrix reference UNTIL I saw your comment ! I recognized that BoG's riff instantly (as well as the Castles Made of Sand chords at the very end) !!
Yeah, love that sliding ninth chord from Axis at the end. Matt is brilliant. If you haven't already, check out a couple of others from the current generation of blues players: Josh Smith and Kirk Fletcher.

Pretty sure that's an SRV lick who nicked it from Hendrix... most likely Mayer picked it up from SRV- he plays that in different keys all the time.
I realize these comments are years old.. haha.. but I just ran across them and you should listen to “Lenny” by SRV that’s where that particular hammer on/ pull off flat fifth lick comes from immediately followed by a Hendrix band of gipsies lick..
