Not bad! It's a good alternative (I don't want to say substitute) to the legendary Ampeg BB-4 Baby Bass that's a staple of salsa. To get that thumpy tone heard in songs by Frankie Ruíz and Eddie Santiago, just use flat-wound strings and put a little wadding in the bridge!!
Nice day I would like to ask how is it possible that the double bass sounds different really like a soft bass guitar? if the tool itself sounds a bit different on different videos. So he wonders what else you have? strings? preamp? combo? thank you very much i buy it but it must sound like your 🙏🏻
I have just returned mine. I don´t like the sound, it is not like a double bass, is like an electric fretless bass. The d´ dario chrome strings are not suitable for this kind of bass, they sound to metallic to my taste. may be GHS flat wounds or Galli jazz flats, they are smoother and warmer
Noticed you had tapewounds on that bass, I want to get my upswing to have a similar thumpy deep sound. I don't have a means of getting a new set of strings, would using a dense foam "mute" against the bridge work as well?
Not that weird for me. The stand let's you put where you want but the bigger issue is no neck break. Acoustic (wood) basses usually have D neck break same with ampeg baby. Sendel baby has Eb but at least a neck break. That IMO is the biggest problem with "stick basses" like NS and Ibanez.
Great review and playing. I’m a jazz guitar player but got to play in Ray Santos’ band in music school at city college nyc many years ago. Love salsa but never has guitar in it really- which is fine. It benefits by the space.
Not sure. Ive got no reason to bow at this point. The " Aro Silk" pick-up system is supposed to detect the difference automatically. Ths NS baby baby bass has a switch for that. Thanks.
First time seeing a bass like that but I like the minimalistic style of it. I found this bass on the Ibanez website and wanted to see how it looks and how it's being played. I didn't know that it's a contrabass/double-bass. I thought it was a "normal" bassguitar.
Very different sound, for 2 main reasons reasons: - A piezo/transducer system in the upright will deliver a more acoustic-focussed and woody tone. These are available in some bass guitar models, but in limited options only. - The way you play is very different - on an upright, you use a lot more meat on the finger to pluck, and your finger rests back on the string below, parallel and with a clear percussive thump - even a one finger technique on the bass guitar won't get this. This bass is a clear option for an upright player wanting a portable alternative, or a bass guitarist wanting an upright sound without a huge jump and at a pretty decent price.
@@jonhmusic423 yea the piezo ( ibanez calls them "aro silk" supposed to automatically distinguish between bowing and pizz) are very hot. I'm using a cloth damper just above the bridge to give more of Ampeg Thump sound. It works for salsa for sure
Hi Paul what kind of pedal do you use ?
This guy should work for Ibanez
Wonderfull ....
Great sound. LaBella tapewound and bridge mute?
Excellent performance i Just have 1 question. To get That sound You are using plástic or Steel Strings?
Do you nylon strings ?
This is so much better than the official ibanez demos!
I like the sound , what kind of string do you use ?
Beautiful tone! Best upright sound i can find online for this bass! Where is the tone knob set too?
I can hear you but I can't see you something went wrong.
This is better than any Ibanez demos I’ve seen of this instrument!
Bad mix
Coisa linda!!!
Nice review, this is exactly what I want to get one for so thanks for this.
Wow great playing man👍
Sounds great!
Best sounding review of this bass. I will be buying one for sure now
hell yeah killing it dude
i just got mine!!! love it . what strings are you using? sounds amazing
It's hard to get the tone of a regular baby bass? What amp are you using? Also what about the thickness of the finger board?
great tone and feel. Thanks for the demo.
You are crushing it! Nice Nice Bass Vibes! Much y Mucho Respeto! Best Demo Of the sound I look for in an electro Upright,

MANY OQUENDO, ORQUESTA LIBRE, ANDY GONZALEZ AL BABY BASS
Sounds awesome are you a electric bass player also

is not passive, i got one
Wow, great playing, sounds amazing As a lefthander, would it work as good with the strings changed around or would I need one made lefthanded? Thanks
You would most likely need an instrument custom made left hand
@@mechwarrior5727 thanks, I think so too
🎼🔥🔥🔥🔥❤️
Great video and sound. I'm actually thinking of buying this bass. Can you tell me which strings are you using?
How does the bass sound without the battery?
Noticed you had tapewounds on that bass, I want to get my upswing to have a similar thumpy deep sound. I don't have a means of getting a new set of strings, would using a dense foam "mute" against the bridge work as well?
sabroso!!!
I saw that it is compatible with bass guitar strings, does it accept normal acoustic bass strings as well?
Oh! CALDY Coffee Farm
Sounds nice but I wonder, is there a way to avoid wobbling, playing seated and resting it to my leg perhaps?
You'd need a shorter stand for it but yeah it's possible
Sounds reasonable, thanks.
Strings raccomanded?
he mentioned it in the comments: "Diadaro tape wounds. Nylon. Medium gauge"
Buenas noches POUL quería saber si las cuerdas son originales o cambiaste para lograr ese sonido para la salsa Gracias
It takes Standard Bass Guitar strings which means you can get this instrument strung up right off the shelf.
Someone walkie talky this guy lol
Hello Paul. this bass is worth the money? and doesn't come with a gig bag?
Most stand up basses are 3,000 and this looks good+sounds good
Yes . It's worth the money. Thanks and sorry for late response
Ibanez's website says it comes with bag
amazing tone and playing
Thank You!
Isn't it weird that you can't actually 'lean' on your instrument, or that you don't feel the bass against your body?
Not that weird for me. The stand let's you put where you want but the bigger issue is no neck break. Acoustic (wood) basses usually have D neck break same with ampeg baby. Sendel baby has Eb but at least a neck break. That IMO is the biggest problem with "stick basses" like NS and Ibanez.

Alot of salsa has quattro. You can montuno on guitar! Thanks
Tremendo swing, Paul.. Tremendo tumbao.. Congrats!!
Thanks. More on the way. Some El.Gran Combo and of course Sonero Poncena.
I'm very interested in one of these for arco. How does it sound with the bow?
Not sure. Ive got no reason to bow at this point. The " Aro Silk" pick-up system is supposed to detect the difference automatically. Ths NS baby baby bass has a switch for that. Thanks.
@@pauldobelstein672 Thanks.

It's definitely a hybrid because the bridge to nut is a full scale electric bass. The pickup system however is geared to wood bass sound.
It's coolest! It is very good that the sustain is short! Is the string black nylon? Please tell me the manufacturer and gauge!
Diadaro tape wounds. Nylon. Medium gauge.....
so why get an upright bass that has the scale length of a bass guitar? Just get a bass guitar
This sounds better. I have an electric bass too. Just better for salsa IMO. Thanks
