Disappointing to see only some BrewBuilt on sale and not the entire line, at least yet…
Sorry, but the sales overall are much bigger than last year. Maybe you will get lucky, and they might alternate the Brewbuilt on sale before Xmas. Historically, the sale after Black Friday is usually minimal.
I love your content. I'm a little jealous of your access to yeast and hops as I am in Alaska and temperature sensitive ingredients are harder to come by on a whimb when I need them. We have a few good homebrew supply shops here. I'm currently upgrading my system. I have a B40Pro 240V on the way. Don't tell my wife....... lol but thinking about starting a TH-cam channel on brewing. Mainly focusing on brewing in rural communities, budget brewing (I know I just bought a high end system, but I've been at it 15 years), and to be honest, hopefully funding my hobby and my obsession. Any advice you have would be greatly appreciated.
I finally ditched the basket and went with a mesh bag and false bottom. Love my Spike equipment, but the basket has too much dead space, and efficency was lower than what I wanted.
Was this on the Solo? I'm wondering, as the false bottom could be tricky on that. I will say I didn't do the Vorlauf on the first batch, but ever since, I've been doing a Vorlauf, which has helped with clarity as the slits on the Solo are a little large, which is a catch-22 as it makes clean-up super easy, but it also allows for some grains to slip through during the lift, but the vorlauf seems to fix that issue in a matter of a minute or two.
Yeast, Millet have gluten and it's the ingredient of all the beers they have here so it's not gluten free. Please people. beware!
Please verify. According to everything I've ever read, millet is gluten-free unless cross-contaminated with gluten-containing grains. www.beyondceliac.org/gluten-free-diet/is-it-gluten-free/millet/#:~:text=Yes%2C%20millet%20in%20its%20natural,pilafs%2C%20breads%2C%20and%20more.
What time are the sales live?
Great question. I would expect 12:01 AM Eastern, but I'll send them an email and see if anyone answers before the event.
@ I messaged them on Facebook too if I hear I’ll post here

If Santa wanted to drop one of those units down my chminey, I'll leave some extra cookies, and maybe even a cold one to wash it down...

@@preuc3367 That is awesome to know. I found a few home brew shops in Canada that seem a bit more cost-effective than some in the U.S., and I'm wondering about shipping and any taxes. I'll need to look into that as it might save me a bit.

@@bryanjenkins6112 Thanks You and enjoy Turkey Day
Thanks for the timely updates. I'm still holding out for a Brewzilla sale. All I have to do is hit "pay" on my cart. Maybe on the real black Friday this week?
Actually, you might still have some luck, as I was thinking about that this morning. MoreBeer! has announced all but one of the sales they had mentioned they would be hosting this year. So, in my mind, I see the "Flash Brewing" kits going on sale for 25% off tomorrow, but that leaves The actual Black Friday the 29th, the weekend, and Cyber Monday. Historically, most Brewing Equipment/Brewing Supply companies have their biggest discounts on the 29th, with Cyber Monday being a very modest sale or a few select items.
Hopefully,, you get this before they sell out, but I just noticed that MoreBeer! Just dropped the price on 1500 items, including the Brewzilla 35L, 65L, and 100L-220 v systems. If they do sell out, I would expect the same at Williams Brewing, but not until 12:01 (I'm not sure which time zone). Don't forget to snag the Neoprene Jacket and Heat Exchanger as Kee from Kegland said these were kind of necessities for those units. (There was a strange flow pattern with the 4.x version that the heat exchanger helped to resolve.) My big issue is that if both of those are necessities, they should be included with the product. Good Luck! Working on a video to announce it. (Also, the necessities are on sale too.) The 35L 220v is $90 off, which the best it has been in 2 years. I do think the sale 2 years ago was slightly better, bringing it under the $500 mark, but still pretty decent.
@@BitterRealityBrewing I just logged in this morning and I see the same price for the 110V 35L combo pack at $650. This has been reduced from $682 for a long time. The deal is on the accessories, not the kettle. I still see the kettle only holding steady at $600. My local brew supply store has had a gen 4 on the floor since this summer for the same price. No deals yet, at least I didn't see anything. I did refresh to make sure but nothing. 😒
@@Mgrant8163 The 220v went down from $599 to $ 509, but the 110v looked out of stock. They always put the 110v version on sale, but the 220v has yet to be marked down since back in 2022. I actually purchased one of the 220v Gen 4.1 this time, just for the channel to do videos and comparisons, as I know there are a lot of home brewers out there using the Brewzilla, too. William's Brewing was also showing out of stock. Maybe Kegland had some shipping delays to their resellers with the 110v, which, hopefully, when it is back in stock, they would do a better sale before the Xmas season. I'm not expecting a version 5.x in 2025 due to the recent minor upgrade from 4 to 4.1 being a rather recent change.
@@BitterRealityBrewing Looks like I'm getting a bag of coal this Christmas again.
Color is too dark and looks like a porter. I had this same issue. SRM for an Alt is 7b. I noticed that you didn’t mention a few of the authentic Altbier ingredients. Try this; 4# Pilsner, 4# Munich, .5# Cara Munich III (don’t use Cara I or else your color will be too light), .5# carapils, and 1 oz of carafa I. Use 1oz of spalt at 60/30/flameout. Good luck and keep up the videos!
Good Catch. I'm known for coloring outside the style guidelines a little. I kept this in range on ABV and IBU, and I did use most of what you mentioned above regarding malts, but obviously a few you didn't. The exception was the SRM (according to BJCP 2021), which should have been between SRM 9 and 17, and I was just over 21, more like a Porter, as you mentioned. Many years ago, I brewed a bunch of "In Style" 1-gallon batches of Altbier, and for a few, I decided to go outside the style bit by adding things like biscuit, chocolate, and even a bit of rye. I fell in love with the altered recipe of adding chocolate and rye. I usually get these ideas from doing a deep dive into a beer style and seeing what others have done to modify the style in one direction or another. I saw where some breweries in Germany had added hints of chocolate or even rye, and I thought, why not add both.
Are you an employee ?
LOL! Nope, just promoting a great company with great products, like MoreBeer! and soon you'll see a video promoting a sale at Spike Brewing. Here is a little back story if you are interested - They are in Lafayette, Indiana, and I'm in Jacksonville, FL. As of Dec 14th I'll have been brewing beer for 10 years, starting with 1 gallon batches and shortly moving to GrainFather Connect (replaced by the G30). I had so many issues with the GrainFather, that GrainFather eventually sent me an entire unit as a replacement. I was so frustrated, even with the new unit having problems (supposedly resolved in the G30), that I sold the units and purchased my first Anvil Foundry 10.5. After using the Anvil Foundry for a few years, I purchased a 2nd one, which arrived with a big dent. Anvil Brewing went out of its way to make it right, and shortly after that, Blichmann Brewing, their sister company, sent me a free brewing system to review. (I'm an IT Infrastructure Engineer by day, and I did a ton of research before making the Anvil Foundry my go-to brewing system.) Earlier this year, I was invited to visit them in Lafayette. I was blown away as the entire company operated like an extended family. I'm 55 years old and have never been lucky enough to work for a company that treats all of its employees like family. It was a big eye-opener to see just how great the company was, and you could hear and see just how much they care for their customers, too.
@ ok cool thanks for the video and for clarifying
@@preuc3367 We can't afford him. :). Seriously though, we are very thankful as there are so many wonderful experts and passionate brewers on TH-cam who educate and document their brew days to inspire others.
@@preuc3367 I actually got invited to go visit them again with a few other Beer Brewing TH-camrs in December. So I'll be there for 1 day and then my wife is turning it into a mini vacation in Chicago. Yes, in December...I'm going to freeze to death. (I'm a Floridian.)

Thank you for all the sales for Black Friday! Just wanted to let you know, Deschutes is pronounced De-Chutes. I moved from South Florida up to the PNW and they definitely have lots of names that can be troublesome to pronounce.
I appreciate that, as I joke that English is my second language and, sadly, my only language. I love math and married an English major, but she only makes fun of me. I do like that beer as it is very nice and very drinkable.
Cheers to you, Mike for sharing! Importantly, cheers to everyone out there.
Good luck at holding the fort down as I saw the kegs have already sold out! Great Job!
Foundry is much better than the Brewzilla. Out of the box 120/240 capable, and the external pump is a life saver to service if clogging during a brew session. Got mine on a BF sale years ago. If you are on the fence about buying one, just do it!
I had someone telling me they really wanted a BrewZilla, and it is hard for me to comprehend especially at 30% off for an Anvil Foundry with the 120/240 switch, no neoprene jacket needed, external pump, and those are the just the obvious items. He did mention having an older one and just wanted a newer version of the same, but still it is a hard to comprehend.
So glad that you love your system. Thanks for sharing. Cheers, to you and yours!
Was hoping for that riptide discount ;)
I think they had that on sale earlier this year. Sadly, I don't see if on the Black Friday list unless you are getting one of the BrewEasy system. Maybe they will drop a deal on it again after Cyber Monday and before Xmas.
@BitterRealityBrewing You're absolutely right! We featured our RipTide™ Brewing Pumps during our Black Friday Preview Sale in September. While they’re not currently on sale, we always strive to bring great deals throughout the year, so keep an eye out for future promotions.
@@BlichmannEngineering Thanks!!
Can anyone answer this for me? I want to get the Anvil 18 gallon Foundry so I can work with larger grain bills. Do they supply an adapter so I can run the 240v power off a normal plug……or do I need to get a different plug installed first so I can use this equipment? Love your channel. Thanks
I'm pretty sure the 18.5 is only 240v (240V Operation 6-20P plug 4000W 17A for Faster Heating & Better Boils). The 10.5 and 6.5 both have the Patented Dual Voltage Switchable Between 120V 1600W, 13A and 240V 2800W, 12A.
That is correct.
Options. If your wall outlet is 240v but using a 20 amp type plug (looks normal but one leg is turned sideways) then you are set as you can use that. If you don't have a 240v currently available in your house, you can do what I did for almost 2 years at my last apartment, and run an adapter off with an extension cord from where your drier plugs in. I will tell you it is a LOT cheaper to make your own extension cord by buying the raw cable from a local hardware store and then attaching the correct connectors on each end. I'm not an electrician, but it was pretty easy to do and you can look up plenty of legit guides to walk you through any concerns or questions in that regard.
@@BitterRealityBrewing Thanks for the advice! Much appreciated
I did the red ale flash beer kit came out good. They say you don’t need to stir anything, however I felt I needed to so the yeast had better contect with the water
I fully understand as I'm a bit OCD about things and seeing all the dry malt clumping together drives me nuts, so I have to stir. I prefer not to shake (5 gallon is also a bit heavy) as I don't like getting malt under the lid that will just dry up and get nasty.
Do i need a regulator and if i do does the mini connect to cannisters other than soadstream? Those are so expensive!
Agreed, but they do last a long time. I purchased these recently and they are much heavier than my Soda Stream CO2 canisters, leading me to believe they have more CO2 in them. Kind of like when you by propane at Walmart and they only fill the canisters about 75% and it being cheaper to have U-Haul refill them. - amzn.to/3ZnYht6 Then you could also do this if you have a regular CO2 like a 10lb unit, you can refill them off of this: amzn.to/3V3PaLR That will cut your costs way down. Someone told me they get there soda stream type CO2 bottles refilled locally for about $15 each. Seems a little high, but that probably helps cover the labor.
Let’s hope they offer discounts on their big products like the Komos and BrewBuilt!
I'm crossing my fingers as I was looking to promote their Komos during Father's Day this year, but the sales were significantly smaller compared to the previous year's Komos during Father's Day in 2023. I think they have ownership in BrewBuilt, so a good promo there would be amazing. Also, looking for some Kegland items beyond connectors.
My cart is full of items that I'd like to see on sale at MoreBeer! I'm just waiting to hit the pay button the second they go on sale.
I feel your pain. I may have to skip the malts I needed for now as they don't appear to be going on sale and I have a few devices/equipment I would prefer to spend my money on at the moment. I should have done a video mentioning Beer Fridges and Chest Freezers as I've seen a few really good deals on those new and I know there will be good deals to be had on used ones in early January for those who could use one. I'm lucky and don't need either at the moment, as I splurged last year and bought a very nice upgrade to my beer fridge that died during Thanksgiving last year. It has been living on borrowed time for a very long time.
Updated 8 AM 11-27-24 - Links in the Descriptions.
I don't see your link to the igulu
Thank you, it was in there but I did forget to title it. - iGulu - go.Bitterrealitybrewing.com/iGulu (User Code BitterRealityBrewing for the best deal possible.) They got some cool things coming for the F1 in the near future and supposedly in early 2025 too.
Thanks Mike. I'm new to the hobby and want to pick up a Brewzilla Gen 4.1 (my first brew day on propane didn't go so well). I've been waiting for a month or two for a black friday sale and it sounds like it's almost here. I have my items in my cart ready to go.
The Brewzilla and the Anvil Foundry are comparable systems both with low density burners which to me is extremely important for home brewers. I'd love to see the BrewZilla 240v go on sale as it hasn't been on sale in almost 2 years. The 120v does regularly. You do know the Anvil Foundry will be 30% off this week, right? Also, I need to know (if you don't mind me asking) what has you leaning towards the BrewZilla over something like the Anvil Foundry? (I own 3 Anvil Foundry systems and only want a BrewZilla for TH-cam and Comparison which is pretty obvious. I've heard good and bad about both over the years and the BrewZilla is the only one that some of the negative has always made me a bit gun shy at purchasing but I take it with a grain of salt as I've never seen one in real life or have one to compare.)
@@BitterRealityBrewing Fairly stupid reason. I already have a Fermzilla and the Brewzilla would be her older brother...(JK). Actually I feel like parts would be easier to get for the Kegland products than the Anvil products. It also seems that the "zilla" products are constantly upgrading and come out with more improvements on a regular basis. The price for the Anvil stuff also seems just a tad higher.
@@Mgrant8163 I fully understand that it is always easier to go with what you are comfortable with. I have a few questions you might be able to answer now and another on a new system if you can score a deal on a new BrewZilla. First, I came from using 2 GrainFather Connects at 110v (I got the 2nd GrainFather for free from GrainFather as my first one was a warranty nightmare with constant problems), and as they were 110v, I had to buy the neoprene jackets to maintain temps during the winter. I sold both and got an Anvil Foundry that I flipped a switch and went to 240v after only a couple brews at 110v. The negatives I have regularly heard about the BrewZilla that have kept me from pulling the trigger to add one to the channel: (Please give me feedback on any of these that you have personally seen or haven't seen.) 1. Sharp edges and/or sharp spots on some welds. 2. Requiring the Neoprene jacket to maintain temps during mash and get a good boil. (I'm crossing my fingers that this is only a 110v issue as the Anvil is double-walled and doesn't have this issue as my old GrainFathers did even at 110v.) 3. The is only for the v4.x units - I've watched many videos on how you can buy the extra temp probe and dial in your temp control, which I was really excited about at first. The problem I see with this, as it was even expressed by Kegland, is that it can take a lot of work to dial these in due to changes in types of mash (different grains) and grain bills, making these significantly different between different brews. It sounded easy enough if you were brewing the same recipe over and over, but beyond that, it sounded like you could lose your mind trying to dial this in on every different recipe. Other issues I chalk up to the brewers are that I've heard similar stuff from different systems, including the Anvil Foundry, like low efficiencies. I have those issues with every new system I get until I learn how to really use and leverage that system properly. As for pumps dying, electrical issues, and such, those can happen randomly on anything you buy that has electrical parts, and I don't think any specific system has ever been called out as more problematic than the other. I have gotten used to having the pump external, which really makes cleaning and managing a bit easier, but it's not a big deal.

I love a good deal as much as saving money, but it is tough to locate and track them all. I figured this would be helpful for some and since I'm watching the deals for myself to, it would be good for everyone.
I got two float it 2.0 love them. With his picnic attack is great for bottling from the keg if you want to use a keg not already on tap or to help control the foam alittle bet better then the normal tap
Yep, Trong easily has me sold on the FLOTit 2.x as I've bought a ton and about 4 or more Picnic taps, but I'm still a big counter pressure bottle filler and haven't found the perfect system for yet.
The thermowell is great for monitoring temperature. But by experimenting with keglands Rapt hydrometer. I have found it is better to stick the inkbird or similar control sensor to the outside of the fermenter for better control of temperature. Cooling and heating differentials also need to be correctly set. I still use a temperature sensor in the thermowell to monitor but not control temperature. If you use the control sensor in thermowell you will find there's a lag, and over and under shoot of the set temperature due to the thermal mass of the liquid between the sensor location and the heating and cooling source. which will result in greater fluctuation in temperature.
It sounds like I might need to do a video showing some tests. I have a RAPT pill and Tilt hydrometers which all of course do temps too. Plus then I could run an internal and external temp probes after verifying they all are calibrated to the same temp of course before starting the test. Thank you for the great idea!
I add sanitizer to the bottom 2 or 3 inches to help facilitate the temperature transfer between probe and surrounding metal ❤❤❤
Someone else mentioning doing that with Star San, I'm only worried about long term exposure to the cleaning products.
I fill it with Star-San so it transmits the temp better
Reading these comments, I'm really happy I'm not the only OCD person here. 🍺🤣
Your going to cost me money, LOL.
😂I'm answering this with three things sitting in my shopping cart at this very moment that I really want but probably don't need. I might need one of the three, but of course, I'm thinking about the free shipping based on buying enough to qualify. I feel you on this, as sometimes I buy a lot of stuff just to test for the channel. Luckily, there are very few items I really regret buying and a few more that I never use again.
I use a Tilt - since it floats on top, I put the Inkbird probe with the Kegland thermowell on the bottom of the fermenter. The delta between the temps is about 2 degrees. I also save the cutoffs from a thermowell and use those for my keezer fittings or for places I need a rigid connection that works with duotight 8mm gear. Cheers!
I use the Tilt hydrometers too, and it is usually within 1 degree of the thermowell, but some comments on here made some great suggestions for things to test to see if I can't fine-tune the temp reading a tiny bit more.
What about using heat transference paste?
I believe you are referencing Thermal paste? If so, that is a good thought, and I might need to do a side-by-side comparison to test the accuracy difference. I can't imagine it being off by much, but it would still be a great test to see just what the differences would be. Appreciate the thought.
Nice tips. I usually keep my wife's hair clips handy to hold wire. And call me crazy, I'm guilty of filling the thermowell with water to wort's level.
A clip to keep it from moving is a brilliant idea. As for the water, the temp probes aren't supposed to be waterproof, although they do look sealed pretty well. I'm thinking of a few tests that some others also mentioned here in the comments to see if I can't dial it in and compare it to my Tilts.
@BitterRealityBrewing they better be because I keep my keezer's inkbirds probe in a water bottle for more accurate reading. 😬 😛 . Being working fine for 2 plus years. 🍻
@@ELRORRITO1 LOL! I keep mine rubber banded to a Coconut IPA from DogFish Head Beer can as I hate coconut in my beer and will never drink that IPA.
❤Use tape at the top after you set it at the base…ocd refined.
I did think about maybe putting a soft insulating foam to ensure no cool or heat release from the thermowell. Thinking it might help to keep the accuracy a bit tighter.
@@BitterRealityBrewing Yeah I like the star san tip, but I was thinking maybe a small wrap of foil on the probe to snug it up 360. If you didn't want to go the messier of the routes.
Has the Anvil got the fridge delay settings?
Jason, That is a great question that I was wondering about after noticing the Anvil handled 15 A over the 10 A of the Inkbird, but no the Anvil Temp controller doesn't have the relay delay as it was specifically designed for the intention of just running chiller pumps or heat. If you are looking for a Keezer or Kegerator, I'd stick to the InkBird systems. I have an InkBird on my Keezer that is probably about 7 or 8 years old and has only gone about 2 degrees off from what it shows, but I've set it for that offset which is pretty good for being in use for close to a decade.
I resubscribed
Thank you and hopefully I'll keep you entertained and informed with some really nice content. I do a few 1 gallon videos for ease and attracting new to brewing type folks which I know most home brewers aren't usually interested in, but I'm getting ready to make a few of those a bit fun for hardcore home brewers too. I do have three big things already scheduled that I'll be sharing with everyone. One will be in December, one in January and I'm not 100% sure on the Vendors release date for the 3rd but hopefully by early 2025.
I have two of those picnic taps and they both leak from the twist knob. They both came with spare parts for both of them so I replaced everything, seals and all. Still leakage. I will not give Trong a penny more and I usually advice every brewer I talk to to stay far away from them. They are just trouble. There are better ways to get flow control. For my floating diptubes and spunding valves I stick with Kegland.
I had one that leaked a little and I reached out to Trong and he helped me fix it in a matter of seconds. I would strongly recommend reaching out to Trong with a photo or two to show him where the leaks are. If I remember right, my tap was a bit too tight. He really does care about his customers and will be more than happy to help you.
Love my picnic mini taps. They don’t drip and they are great on the go. I broke one and he sent a part very fast. Never had any issues.
@@AM2PMReviews He really does love his customers.
I have three clear beer draught systems. Love them. And yes they are expensive. I have one float it. Because of an earlier video of yours. And I will probably get a second one because yes they are really nice. But that's it. This has to stop somewhere. (My wife's words not mine.) Oh yeah I might try one of those picnic taps 2.
😂🍻😂🍻"Wife's words not mine" Very Funny. If you saw my 4 part video about the floating dip tubes, the Clear Beer Draught system held its own and exceeded expectations. Trong and I, spoke about them and both agree they are really high quality, but of course are on the more expensive side. For kegging, both work really well, but for my Fermzilla All Rounder, I prefer the FLOTit 2.x. As for my wife, she hates beer, but likes my income and after having some heart issues, she actually is happy I brew as she says it seems to help me with my stress, that I never knew I had. (She still wishes I didn't drink the beer, but doesn't give me too much flack.) Maybe you need to tell your wife that it helps with your stress, plus one beer seems to work better for my blood pressure than the meds do, so my DRs tell me to keep drinking but would prefer me to keep it to only one per day.
Thanks for your commitment to always share the great deals out there!
Last year seemed a bit light on the sales, but this year is already looking really good so far and hope to inspire more homebrewers to get a bit deeper into the hobby.
I have the picnic tap 2.1 and absolutely hate it, I find the nukatap mini with a flow control disconnect is fininitely better.
I do like my Nukataps a bit more than my Intertap, mainly because of better quality control. I haven't been temped to try the Nukatap mini yet as it looked a little cheap, but with more info, I may be temped to try one. I've never had any issues with the Picnic taps and have 5 currently with different disconnect configurations. Trong did send me one, but I purchased the others and use the hell out of them, sometimes never connecting a keg to the main taps.
100 percent agree with floating dip tubes and spunding valves. All good advice though
Never imagined relying on anything like these 4 items as much as I do. Trong is funny too, as he tracks all his sales and is really good at remembering his customers. He has sent me a few samples of items many years back and recently I mentioned that I had bought a bunch and he knew that I bought a bunch of each item, especially the FLOTit 2.x to replace other floating dip tubes and a few FLOTit 1.x dip tubes. He was like yes, you got X on Amazon and X on eBay. He does all his own shipping and packing which helps him remember when he seems common names he has seen before. Great guy and I'm really happy to see if finally getting lots of the appreciation has deserved for a very long term.
Cheers! Welcome to Bitter Reality Brewing. YES! We're gonna drink some beers, boys!
@@BeetsByHometownBrew honestly I've been here a long time. 😆. I'm not big on commenting. But I've watched all your videos. Good info.
It is all about making great tasting beer and enjoying it often!
Thank you very much for the support and I can relate as I watch a lot more videos then I ever comment on. If you ever had a question, feel free to ask and I'll do my best to answer it. I've been brewing for 10 years this December, but I'm always learning which is one of the great things I love about this hobby.
Love watching Trong from Home Brew Lab.. He brews along LIVE with Benham Brewing on YT. Benham Brewing is also from Phoenix, AZ just like I am. Trong would be live on YT forbthe full brewday. BTW, love your channel. 🍻 from AZ.
He has offered to brew with me on a live stream, and I'm strongly considering it, but it may need to wait till late December or mid-Jan 2025 as I have a lot going on, including two non-work-related trips. 😎🍻
Very informative video Mike! I went the brew built route with 2 fermenters at the same time. Black Friday deal made this system a lot easier on the buyers remorse side of things since I don't brew a whole lot. My system is at least half of what yours is. I also live in a hot area so the pros out-ways the cons all day. Space saving is a big one as well for me. What is so great about brewing is that there are so many options out there from very reasonable to very expensive. It is an individual decision to make the purchases that you know you can be comfortable with without loosing sleep at night.
Brew Built has a sale going on right now and I thought about mentioning it, but between lack of time and not really knowing much on the Brew Built equipment minus some research on their glycol systems I held back on doing the video. Hopefully I can learn a bit more about their equipment in 2025. As long as it is reliable, does the job it is supposed to do, isn't a pain to use, and doesn't break the bank then it works for me.
You lost me at roaches
LOL! If you got to the end, it was an April Fools Joke about making beer out of bugs. I used to raise reptiles, so I know WAY too much about bugs.
The heat rap that you use is that OK for the plastic all rounder when I do the 5 gallon batch I think it’s gonna be above the liquid line and overheat the plastic. Any suggestions?
Yep, I've used two of them 4 times total, with 1 use on a Fermonster (thin PET plastic) and 3 uses on All Rounders without any issues. On the Fermonster, it wraps very cleanly and does wrap a little above the liquid line, but with the fermenters being wrapped either with 2 Beach Towels to get good insulation or the Fermzilla jacket, the ambient heat generated helps a lot, too. As for the All Rounder, the heat wrap barely touches the actual fermenter, but still, due to the ambient heat inside the insulated jacket, it does a great job. I've only had the heat up to 85 F, and the system never generates enough heat to damage any PET Plastic fermenters I've used. If you watched one of my older videos from about 2.5 years back when I did some Irish Stouts, I had a little 200-watt ambient heater, and I had a temp probe pull out of a box fermentation chamber, causing the heat to actually melt part of that ferment. The heat wraps I use now are considerably safer.
Like BajosBikesBrewing said...I don't brew enough to justify the expense of Glycol, but I love the idea - especially if you're a "semi pro" brewer and you already have the SS conicals and all that. I love that pump you found...so jealous that it works with the screw on duotight fitting usually used for beer taps...nice find! Also, if you're a big batch brewer - glycol is nearly the only way...really expensive to find an upright freezer that can accommodate a 1 bbl fermenter or larger. Great discussion!
I fully agree, as the costs hurt the wallet a lot, but I do brew a lot. I got over my regret pretty quickly once I realized the quality of my beer was better and more consistent than ever before. For the first 3 months, those costs really had my regret level pretty high, then I used the RAPT, which is really nice, but the Glycol system is simply on another level which helped me completely forget about any regret I had initially.
