this is just bitter riffing because the lift didn't work. She was pissed, the only emotion I can feel from this is anger. And it doesn't make sense for Elphaba to be angry while defying gravity. Acting is also about putting your own emotions aside, Shoshana clearly didn't understand this. I much prefer even her last defying gravity, though even more riff heavy than this, because she was at least acting. My favourite ever from her is the proshot

I want to tell you that from several programs like Adobe audition I have tried to fix the noise of this audio and the result has not been favorable, I feel very frustrated that one of the most impeccable presentations of Eden has been recorded with such bad audio. I would like to know if you can help me find this same presentation recorded by another person, or to be able to listen to it better. I hope that it can.

Fun fact: This is actaully Shoshana's first Defying Gravity and it's also the the debut of THE red track suit

People forget the show used Shoshana as a test run to see if the show could outlast a Tony winning Actress, the answer was a resounding YES. People were sooo amazed by Sho more and more people wanted to see the show. Ticket sales rose during her run. The show wanted her to stay true to herself but within reason. Rumor has it, the Music Director constantly disagreed with Shoshana about riffs, runs, and changing the tone. This was one of those blessed moments They couldn’t get mad at her because she had complete control over how the song was gonna be sung. The riffs and runs she does in this performance was absolutely beautiful.

Who was lead at the time

for anyone wondering what happened, i heard it was the anniversary of her fiancé who had passed away in a car crash earlier that year. she doesn’t sing this song very often now and it’s kind of rude to tell her private story (which i haven’t even seen confirmed) but i’m just trying to spread info :)

Interesting how the orchestra slows down after the big fiyero note, probably to give her a chance to catch her breath
