Just had my video camera on a tripod taking some static shots during the regatta. Cut it down to just where the boats passed by. Nothing fantastic - but might be interesting for someone just to borrow pieces for their own video. Nothing Special.

The schadenfreude is palpable. You get to SEE your opponent lose.
Not only that, but even once you've won, your opponents may still be in the process of losing!
If you’ve never crewed or run cross country you have no fucking idea.
Looking at the people you're beating? Not if you have your eyes in the boat like you're supposed to!
when you are far enough in front, if your focus is of the head in front of you you still see your victims in your peripheral vision. also if you are stroke in a pair or 4- guess what you can see in that position 😜
Hugh Laurie is right about the rowers seeing the opponents they are beating. But what about the cox ;) ?
If your head is down and looking in the boat your airways are not straight, you are not breathing properly and probably exhausted as a result.
Omg i love house and now that i know we both used to row 😳
*One of the best pieces of cardio equipment ever. I love my rower.>>>**ur2.pl/1167** I use the top mounted cell phone holder and watch netflix while rowing indoors during bad winter weather. It is great cross training for biking or running. I've tried other rowers and this is by far my favorite. The monitor is accurate, well made, and links with my watch and laptop easily.*
It's called both in america. Crew or rowing. I say "im going to crew" because its shorter and easier to say but when I talk about it I say rowing
been rowing for a while, still don't know what a good win feels like #highschoolstruggle
Yes. Unfortunately there is very little variability in rowing. It is not uncommon for a team to race all through high school and never place, much less win.
DougKutyna well ya, it's called being bad, schools with old programs and full boat trailers always win, and then theres club teams.
Classy, Hugh, not to mention your father who rowed in the 1936 Olympics.
... and, father, Ran Laurie, won a gold medal in the coxless pair at the 1948 London olympics.
Just finished reading THE BOYS IN THE BOAT,about the 1936 Washington U.team that won the gold in the Berlin Games.Hugh's father Ran was on the British team.
Rowing is a my passion, every rower hates it but somehow we keep waking up and going to the boatshed. When you ask a rower why they can never give you a certain answer since they do not know themselves. They do not know the motivation that drives them. Rowing is a passion, and rowers know what it is deep inside
Johnson Lim Couldn't be more right. That second you finish a 2k, every time you feel like you can't breath, your bones are aching and your muscles are sore, every rower asks themselves why they row. I have heaps of friends ask me why I row. I try and pinpoint a reason, but in truth it's like there is none. All that matters is that I still feel compelled to row season after season. Rowing is indeed a passion. Just a very confusing, difficult and painful passion :D
You guys sound like drug addicts , just replace the word row with shooting up and rowers with junkies and you have basically the script to the movie requiem of a dream or basketball diary
That's actually very accurate. It is an addiction, really. Why else would I have gotten up at 4am, gotten dressed and out the door in the cold of 4:30, rode to the boathouse and wait in the dark to be let in and work my ass off for an hour in the gym, then go across the road to the pool and practice strokes for another hour, then go off to class, then come back to do more pool work or run? It was an addiction.
6 AM row, when you have 8 other guys (cox) waiting for you, and once you are on the water and finished your first piece, it's worth it!
I love the people, that’s one thing that keeps me going.
"it's a miserable sport" IT"S SO TRUE but rowing is my life and winning is the best thing ever
Best description. Think back on that hours long steady state, 5*1500, or 12 by 2 min row, and ultimately that 2k test. However, again, you feel you have achieved so much, and any other fitness sports made you feel easy.
I didn't think I could love Hugh Laurie any more than I did...
Does anyone know who is interviewing Laurie? And what news organization is it, by chance? Thank you so much for the help.
Very late reply, the interviewer is Craig Ferguson
I rowed for a year and loved it, but couldn't keep up with it due to my studies. Even though I adored it, I have to agree. It's a miserable sport.
Yay, rowing!!!!!
Soooo true :)
I live in the states and what I do is called rowing, but we don't use those lightweight little fiberglass hulls, I row wooden longboats, I think that it is the truest form of rowing, without any gear or people our boats weigh the same as your boats fully loaded
Jefferson won 1. 6:26.3 Forrest Park 2. 6:50.2 Oakton 3. 7:20.4 McLean 4. 7:37.1 Hylton 5. 8:13.0

"Did you enjoy it" "NOOO its a miserable sport" haha soo truee
He was in the Cambridge Blue Boat.
OMFG. Hugh Laurie used to row. This is the best god damn day in my entire life.
He rowed for Cambridge in The Boat Race 🙂
i hate how the call it "crew" in the states
can someone write what he says? pleeeeease :)
fun fact: he won british nationals in the schoolboy coxed pair. i.e. the most hellish boat ever invented
mclean won
@wahaya2 While I totally agree with your recommendation, I find it hilarious that people anywhere in the entire world could *not know* about Blackadder. It's like not knowing about eating ...
Even more respect for this dude ^.^ Even though I just realized this is probably why my parents put me in crew. My mom is obsessed with both of them.
Agree 100% when he says it's a miserable sport!
@Gregusse thats cause Craig is Scottish and well, most Scots will call them self Scottish first. ;)
The sport in the U.S. is called technically crew but they don't say "cruise" they say "row" I believe.
@k2477456 yeah I think we all knew that it was just like you have to imagine in the moment you probably would not remember. and either way I don't think it would have helped the other girls much because Meg held the oars off the water as best she could cause she couldn't undo the oar locks. If she hadn't, the oars would have been everywhere or catching crabs
@cckat05 i have to say for having the rower stay in the boat ya'll did great but a occoquan they wont penalize you for jumping out of the boat because under FISA rules it is legal is an oar or oarlock breaks for the rower to jump out.
0:58 Best Part
@capricorn1968 I live in the US too. I row in Exeter, NH. We call it crew.
he is right on about the looking at the people you are beating thing.
@balanar4o THEN TALK ABOUT ROWING
/watch?feature=player_embedded&v=vOPgE50fSRY
@MrCamRellim Both he and Craig Ferguson are British (although Craig may be less willing to be upfront about it)
wow he hides his accent super well in House...
He's very right :)
I love Hugh Laurie...
man now i gotta live up to that 1st place boat go gloucester!!
