Ep 1: I Got Laid Off, So I'm Starting My Own Company
It's starting to seem and feel like the only way to make a decent living online is to lie, cheat and steal.
It is not easy. If I can do it anyone can. Not said I made millions but I made some side cash. You really need to be good at marketing. Which is hard to be good at. That’s the key to online sales. Marketing and then solve a problem for the customer. I’m am still learning about marketing.
Great wake up call!!! Amazing video, my friend!
Thank you kindly!
The parking lot business is very popular in Italy, especially in the downtown areas of big cities. What do you think about the parking lot business?
it is real estate, so I think it is a good business
Hahaha, that's so true! Why do we want to keep junk even if we are not going to use it for years? Actually, it's not only Americans-people from all over the world like to keep their junk lol
We all fall for the great marketing campaign from various companies to buy their stuff.
Thank you for your honesty. I wasn't suspended, but my first Etsy shop was a flop. I'm planning to try again with a strategy, website, email list, and other streams of income (plus my day job). Wow! The annual salary on Etsy is low... I've made just under half of that on Medium in four months. I made three sales on Etsy in eight months. 😂
If you can make three sales you can make 10. If you can make 10 you can make 100. Keep pushing 😁. I am rooting for you!
@@DrivenByJason Thank you, Jason.
Realestate. I got smoked in 08.
I think I am younger than you. I started in 2012 right at the bottom of the dip. It's like I said in the video, if you start off with a win you keep going. Too stupid to know otherwise lol.
Real estate market Id screwed. It’s not an affordable investment for anyone at this point, unless you have deep pockets. The current prices and interest rates make it pretty infeasible for the most part. Besides that everything is going to crash. People aren’t paying their bills anymore and are maxing out their credit cards just to cover necessities.
Yes and no. I agree with you that it is not the best time to buy. It is a seller market hence why I said I sold a few places. Deep pockets is not as important as cash flow. It’s a math problem. Even if you can’t down 20% and have the pay pmi, if it cash flow positive, it can still be a good deal. I no longer try to time the market. Real estate ebb and flow. You have higher rates now so properties then to be lower. Also less competition. Long term it doesn’t matter as much. I do see a trend in rental buildings being built. I think it’s harder for people to save which is why you see new apartment buildings instead of condo buildings. Really a shitty situation for the younger generation.
Refreshing content! Likes and subscribed 😀
Welcome 🤗
Up to $5 for a washer? Those are 1990 prices.
It is $5.50 for the large washer in queens New York. You are seeing higher prices than that!? Shoot, inflation is crazy!!
I have $24 machines and my friend has a $42 machine.
Issue with these is that they are saturated businesses.
It may be or may not because the success rates are still high. You need to be innovative. All these people I know didn’t just do the business they made small adjustments. I would say real estate is very good. That is not saturated and I don’t see it ever being saturated if you just want to be a landlord.
NIce video
Thank you! Thank you for watching.
The vending machines in Japan were amazing.
Never been there but I am planning to do so in November of this year. I am starting to see those toys that they sell in Japan vending machines here in the states. May be something good to jump in on while it is getting hot.
So cute 😊
Off to buying some vending machines tomorrow 😮😊
Do it😄
Just utilize information from the Etsy Consultant channel. Guy has mastered his craft and shows you how to make a SERIOUS shop that genuinely gets you sales, and you HAVE to do the work.
Making money always requires work 😁.
It's true, I lost my Etsy shop after three years of dedicated work. I was consistently generating six figures in revenue each month. Unfortunately, the reason for closing my shop was my use of public Wi-Fi while traveling. It would be beneficial if Etsy engaged in conversations with sellers and provided opportunities to address such issues before taking drastic actions.
That is crazy. Well I’m glad you fought them and got it resolved. How did you ever get to talk to a real person at Etsy? Congratulations on having such a successful store.
Thanks Goodness! A bit of honesty. It took me a while to realise that I was being fed untruths by these ‘gurus’.
They are not all fakes but a lot of them are just posting videos to get views. It’s a shame.
You got caught selling something they have banned, copyright violation or you're reselling. Never "no reason". Be honest. It's Etsy's playground; their rules, their options. Build your own website. Sell the banned things, the copyrighted things and retain a good lawyer (who will just take your money because there is no excuse for most of your mistakes).
I think comments from other Etsy seller on this video have mentioned it is probably something in my listing that flagged the system or they are thinking I am a bot. In the end of the video I found that my credit card rejected the linkup. Etsy probably thought I was a bot at that point. You should watch the video again. The item I was selling you can see from my video was a google spreadsheet template for a purchase order. I can probably get it fix if I can get in front of a person, but I do not think it is worth my time. I would be honest if I knew the reason lol. I do not think I got banned for making an excel spreadsheet on google sheets for people to use. However, this is the exact point of my video, the process is broken and they do not seem to care. That is worrisome as others established store have been banned too. Some have even commented on this video saying such. You are right it is their playground and they can do what they want. I choose to take my ball and go home and not play on their playground.
I talk a lot about scams on my channel so I was hoping you'd go into more detail here... how exactly are the Etsy gurus scammers? What's the scam? What are they lying about, other than the fact that some shops get banned? Isn't that like saying "Don't ever start a TH-cam channel because some channels get banned"?
Your channel is pretty funny man. This video is not about fake gurus on Etsy, and my channel is not to expose scams. It is a channel to document my journey to starting a company from scratch and pass on some of my knowledge from starting businesses and being part of startups. It is to inspire people to chase their dream of always wanting to start a business. I mentioned that in my video about being banned. It is not about getting banned, it is the process of it. You are right you can get banned on TH-cam. You always need to diversify in business.
@@DrivenByJason Thanks, found you on r/NewTubers best of luck with your growth!
I agree. This is nothing video. Just because people think Etsy is a get rich quick business and find out it actually takes work, doesn't mean its a trap or a scam. I actually agree with most of the blocks they put on people. It weeds out those people.
Your channel is realy good.
Hi Admiral Ackbar!
Esty is all copy cats
Yeah I feel you.
Damn bro, I'm in the same boat! In a total rut and also recently jobless! Tried ebay, bombed, ebay controls the traffic and if you're not paying into promotion, you'll get no views. About to launch Etsy store, but reconsidering that platform entirely. Hitting walls after walls.
It is not easy but if it is worth it. Every failure you are learning something that can be apply in the future. You only need to get it right once. Keep going bro, I’m rooting for you.
It's not IF Etsy will ban shops, it's WHEN.
That’s how I feel. It’s like you are walking on eggshells.
I don't understand this comment. Why would you be banned if you have a legitimate shop that follows the policies..?
@@bremcdonald because it is a not a person that is reviewing your store or listing it is an algorithm. That is the problem. Etsy outsource the job to a program. I do not blame them for it as they have over 7 million sellers according to their 2023 earning report. But there has to be an easier way for sellers to reach a person. Even on amazon you can chat with a person online within a minute or two and they have way more customers.
@@DrivenByJason They would need to hire thousands of people to manually review stores and individual listings, meaning drastically higher costs for legitimate sellers. You cannot compare them to a platform like Amazon. When you have a legitimate store, its actually quite easy to get reinstated. Either your store was flagged for legitimate reasons and you are not suppose to be on the platform or you're lazy and spent more time on this TH-cam than it would've taken to resolve the issue. The original comment implies that an Etsy ban is inevitable, which is simply not true.
@@bremcdonaldwhat’s your point with this comment? Do you work for Etsy? Because there is no other reason you are so vested in defending a company when you have real people here telling you what they actually experienced. Not only that.. many people in different forums are saying the same thing? So you think they are lazy too? Would they be lazy when they are the ones investing time on their business in the first place? When they are frustrated to the point that that are speaking out about this and going out their way to make sense of what is going on? You make no sense. You MUST be working for Etsy or something… and if you are.. go fix the issue instead of blame shifting
Mine happened exactly the sametime as Q4 of 2023 without explanation. I was a Star Seller. No emails, no violations, no IP isdues cause I was in it for the long run. They mess with me I mess with them. They just got another complaint on the BBB. Their numbers are lies. They don't have as many buyers as they claim. Don't waste your time.
Wow that sucks. I can hear the frustration in your comments. They are not worth our time. It seems like you had a winning idea. Start a Shopify store?
Its a bot. Its how they prevent illegitimate sellers on the platform. Something on your listing likely got flagged. All you have to do is resubmit until you get a human.
Nice to know that. Thank you. I'll resubmit a few times to see what happens and let people know. Still crappy as it feels like I am constantly pressing 0 on an automatic phone call trying to get to an operator lol.
Sorry, but that's not true. If you get banned your information is saved. As soon as they notice you have opened a new store you'll be banned again. The only way is to assume a brand new identity. Good luck!
There was a TH-camr who I think found a contact at Etsy and she collected names of legitimate sellers who got banned to send to the person but I think she already submitted the list. I always heard reply to the email they sent you, don’t start a new case. I hate that Etsy says they can take up to 72 hours to reply to you, but they only give you 24 hours to reply to someone. And last time they didn’t get back to me for like two weeks.
Yeah not worth the frustration it seems.
I've been banned permanently by etsy but I got my account back, after weeks of contacting and emailing them, and they said sorry and it was an error by them, I filed a complaint at BBB better business Bureau and contacting etsy via their twitter and dont used any email that related with your shop, they will ignored it and keep chatting and emailed them, and after two weeks like that my shop got reinstated. Im dissapointed with etsy nowadays because the email..... automated A.i. its trickier to contact real human customer services
Thanks for letting us know how to get our accounts back. But that is a frustrating as hell process based on their stupid process.
Nice video, got here from watching your Etsy video. I'm 42 this year, stuck in the matrix struggling and opened an Etsy store to see what happens/see how it goes 🤷🏻♂️ All these years and I still don't know what I want to do in life/do for a living! I think you will do well this channel.
Thank you so much for the kind comment. I hope you are right, and that this channel will do well. I think that is the problem right. We know what we want to do with our life, we just don't want to spend all of it working :). Good luck on your Etsy store. I am rooting for you! What are you planning to sell if you don't mind sharing?
@@DrivenByJason thank you. I thought I would try phone cases
I noticed a few days ago Etsy's stock price dropped 11%. Can you comment on why you think this happened. I'm guessing it has nothing to do with how they treat sellers or that they now charge $15 per shop for new stores. This makes it especially irritating after you pay etsy money and then they basically steal that money from you by banning you. I was considering starting with etsy before moving to shoppify buy im thinking of going straight to shopify to avoid the risk of being shut down randomly by bots.
I don’t follow Etsy stock. I would never invest in company that treats their employees this way. From what I can tell their quarterly report was bad. Sales are down and have been on a downward trend since post pandemic. Etsy did well during the pandemic but are struggling now. Amazon and Shopify have recovered from the post pandemic but Etsy has not. Looks like they are down 8% on sales this year. I bet it’s because they treat their sellers like crap. Shopify is a good idea. Start that and if you have time afterwards you can diversify to Amazon or another platform.
I feel attacked....😮💨
I didn't say all the TH-cam Etsy Guru... I am sure your channel is legit. Keep it up with the hustle!! Don't listen to random people like me on the internet :)
Thanks for this. I have been on Etsy 10 months, 1,107 sales. I feel like I am walking on eggshells. (Yes, I follow all of their rules). While I have had success, I know it can disappear at the click of a button- presumably by a bot. Anyway, I have started the process of researching Shopify as I feel that is a safer platform. Any advice would be appreciated. Thank you.
That is great you have all those sales. Here is what I would do immediately if you are serious about opening your own store via Shopify or whatever. Registered a domain and start the website. All sales moving forward include a thank you note for the sale and mention your new storefront/ web address. Make sure your website is up and running to at least collect their email address. It can be a simple as coming soon, join our newsletter and we can alert you once it is open etc Try to download your current customers info from Etsy. Not sure if they share your customer email addresses with you. But you want to to do so that you can do an emailing campaign to all your previous customers alerting them of your new storefront and giving them a discount. Kind of like a grand opening.
@@DrivenByJason great suggestions, thanks
I actually earn some money from Etsy but not a lot, listening to you I will try to open my website incase I got banned
Good idea. Always good to have a backup. One of my future video will be about diversifying your business and one of the advice is exactly what you are doing.
I’ve been shut down on Etsy twice. Each time I was able to get back on, but it’s the most horrible feeling in the world especially when you are doing everything right. I was banned back when they used to have humans working for them but now they only have robots and people in foreign countries that don’t understand anything except what they’re told. Recently, I started a print on demand company, a second shop. However, I learned pretty quickly that the profit margins in this business are horrible. You cannot make any real money selling T-shirts sweatshirts you name it. Etsy is flooded right now with $10 T-shirts That American can compete with. Even the top sellers who are selling their shirts for $22 are profiting roughly 19% which is horrible that’s roughly 2 dollars per T-shirt. It’s a race to the bottom and I don’t want to be a part of it anymore.
Completely agree with you. No one wins in a race to the bottom.
🙏🙏🙏 where did u get the chart to 90 please?
You can buy a poster on amazon or etsy for $30 but why do that when there is one that is free 😁. Here is the link to the calculator I used. You just need to print it out and color a box each week. www.bryanbraun.com/your-life/weeks.html Thanks for watching my video!
Thank you for this info! Straight forward and well explained!
I’m glad it was helpful.
2001 i bought a house for 115k. I was making $50k. Good luck next generation, I'm pulling for you.
Yeah. I went to a state university paying 6k a year. Worked part time and left college with 12k in student loans all government at a low rate. No idea how these kids will pay off their student loans and buy a house.
Keep rolling out the great content brother!!!
Thanks brother. You too. Your videos inspire me to post more.
Sadly this applies to nearly any platform you sell on, Etsy, Amazon, Walmart, etc. If you're ENTIRELY dependent on one platform for your income you are at serious risk.
This is so true and it needs to be read here. Never put all your eggs in one basket!
@@DrivenByJason do u have any videos on what u recommend as a strategy? Thank you, honest review ive heard a lot of bans on etsy. They should really value communication with humans to weed out bots and fakes, maybe one day they'll learn the lesson as you said. Im wanting to build something more independent/secure longterm
@@Llkolii I do not have any video to address strategy yet, but can give you recommendations. Essentially you want to diversify. You want your own platform as well as using an established platform. You want to build your brand. So for your own platform, it is creating your own website store through shopify or other similar. At the same time you can sell on Amazon, ebay, etc. It depends on the product you are trying to sell. If you are selling on another platform such as Amazon etc dont worry about running ads to direct traffic there. Run Ads to direct them to your own website. Create a following on various social media platform like Pinterst, Instagram, TH-cam, etc directing them to your own website. Hope this helps!
I am going to do a video on this. Thanks for the idea!
And don't forget... TH-cam!
Its true you are also just number for Etsy too you cant get any support etc. its just waste of time
Agreed. So tired of these guys lying to us.
I tried etsy instagram and pinterest. I stopped paying attention to them and focus on building an audience with youtube. I might circle back once I gain traction.
It is all too much. I feel TH-cam is the most stable and established. There is only so much time we have and it is good to focus on the right thing.
@DrivenByJason IMO there's a big difference in likes and views vs creating a tribe/following.
Agreed.
Absolutely wonderful video brother ❤❤❤
Thank you. It is an important messages to new entrepreneurs. Time is valuable.
Leave me a comment and share your experience with Etsy. Did you have similar experience?
14 weeks??? Mine was 8 weeks and I needed every bit of it to prepare. If they could send sample that you can use to take product photography and get renderings done. I would also get a Quality Control list made before excepting the products. I had to relabel 1000 products at around $1 per label :(
4 weeks for their R&D team to replicate my formula, make tweaks to it base on my suggestions, and confirm stability. Another 10 weeks for the final formula to stabilize before they can ship it. Quality Control, did you hire an independent or use theirs? I still can't believe you had to pay for their mistakes with the labeling. The bright side is your new label looks better.
@DrivenByJason at this moment, I use a simple checklist. They offered to pay, but to be honest, I knew they would drag their feet and not do a quality job. Their labels didn't last in the shower, so I went with something different. Even after I got these labels in, I had my designer make adjustments. I just got Thank You cards in, and they were OK, but not great. They had markings that looked like dust. I made them reprint the cards. After looking at the cards, I'll make adjustments. Sometimes, it's better to get it 80% just to move forward.
😂
🤣 life as an entrepreneur just writes itself. You can’t even make this stuff up.
Straight to the point. Didn’t know it was this easy. Thank you!
I’m glad it helped!
I do not tell my friends what I am starting. If they ask, I tell them I am selling soap to see their reactions. I need this business like I need a hole in my head but in my life, I need to be on offense.
Entrepreneurship is a lonely journey. Few understand and even fewer are willing to put in all the work for zero reward.
Nice video Jason
Thanks Tim!
Nice! I too start a startup
You can do it!
Great video Jason!
More to come!
I love this and I look forward to doing an interview style video with you in the future!
Can't wait! That would be cool. I really want to get that podcast going and it is still on my list.
