The set-up to my next AoW4 series: Mother of Dragons. There was a great deal that didn't make it in between this episode and episode 1, mainly due to a lot of failed starts as well as accidentally deleting my save. DOH!

Victory is ours! Though not in the way I'd quite expected. But a win is a win! Mrixl ascends into my pantheon of misfits where he will act as a placeholder until Way of War releases and I rebuild him as an Ogrekin.

Which one of the AoW series is the best for someone to get started?

    • @Mrixl2520

I've only played AoW 3 & 4 and Planetfall. 3 is pretty approachable... But I gotta say even though 4 has a lot of complexity it also has a lot of depth. You might be a bit lost at first, but it has a lot to offer once you get a good grasp of the rules.

Very nice idea. Also the custom roster is pretty cool with magic planeswalkers!

It's a shame the Ways of War DLC isn't out yet, the Oni form in that would've been great for a Tiefling race.

I know right? Oni was announced a day or two after I recorded the first episode and I was like "Oh come on!"

Though it was cool to see your decision making when it came to using the merchant shops, good idea to edit out much of the merchant shop phases. It was turning into a shopping playthrough :D

Indeed! This series was becoming: "Check out all these cool items, then lets go smash some things with them... Time permitting" ;) I love the merchant hut mod but it is almost too convenient! Its cool that it changes the way I play and that it forces me to sort of budget spending. It also makes me realise how cumbersome the item forge is... Build this expensive building, break down a bunch of items, collect all these materials (some of which can only be found underground), wait several turns, and then you might be able to build a so-so item. Alternatively I could just buy a Wizzo's Boomstaff at my local item hut. A lot of times I go to make something in item forge and find something as good or better in the shops. Thanks for the reply and thanks for watching!

The Phoenix mount is from the Merchant Shops mod which adds a bunch of new items. I did not expect to see Shivermist appear in the shop, the ability is supposed to summon a weakened Ice Spider. Shivermist is a new item from the base game. Also did not expect to learn about diatomaceous earth!

hello, In what position did you place the Robot Pods mod for it to work?

  • @dakaodo

You can press T to turn off the block autorotation (it is highlighted in the bottom middle of your hotbar), so that the game doesn't randomly orient your half blocks as you try to place down a uniform floor with them. No worries if that doesn't bug you, but the autorotate has never served me well! :D

Small detail, but thanks for actually pronouncing "silicon". I've seen half a dozen other American/Canadian SE content creator/players all say "siliCONE". I know it doesn't matter, but aaaaargh! :D Silicone belongs in kitchenware and body implants! :P We only have so much brain space or RAM-equivalent for active system working resources. I totally get that you can remember a certain set of key commands and functions, but have a hard time retaining other (admittedly less important) command sets. That's why I can only play 1 game at a time, for a while. takes time to learn the game commands and little tips/tricks, and I have enough other IRL duties/skills I need to retain and keep current, so I can't absorb 2 games at the same time. And if I let a game sit for too long unplayed, it's hard to motivate myself to re-learn the game (or resume watching anything on TV -- which is why I haven't bothered watching TV series for almost 15 years now). AQD's concrete mod is brilliant. I love it. The concrete component is very heavy, making it understandably unreasonable to carry in flying vehicles. But for the integrity values, I'd wish for the final concrete blocks to be proportionally as heavy as well. As-is, the concrete blocks are very proportional to light/heavy steel armor blocks (excluding AQD's other combat core mod that grants specifically some damage/deformation reduction bonuses to only armor blocks). I feel like concrete should be inefficiently heavy; even a 2x weight per block would incentivize concrete block use only for static grids. And yeah, AI Enabled and dependent mods have caused crash/stability issues for other people too (Splitsie has mentioned this). I hadn't tracked my problems down to AI Enabled, but I found that I wasn't getting as much personal gameplay out of those mods. For several hundred MB of mod size and consuming system memory and game engine resources, all the monster mods can be fairly quickly rendered trivial as soon as you secure even 1-2 hand loads of Mg ore. 1-2 interior turrets, then 1 gatling turret make the base secure forever and NPCs become merely system-resource-hogging inconveniences. I'd rather spend my game/system resources on loading in some of the physics mods (like DraygoKorvan's Aerodynamic physics), KK91's no rotational damping (makes for pretty cool ship shootdowns and crashes), or weapon/block mods that add unique/significant gameplay value to SE's core ship/block building gameplay loop. Your initial comment about the boring and overly familiar initial build-up phase is so true. Every series goes through this. :D You and Psy Prime have both opted to skip through that bit, so yay for that! This is why I've recently chosen to rush a static large grid drill ASAP on every new start. Even on a single piston (or initially no piston, even), no rotor, a LG drill absolutely drowns one in stone and I've never lacked for the basics (iron, nickel, silicon) after setting up a drill. All the basic blocks, rovers, etc become possible very quickly. Only cobalt for grids for thrusters and cargo etc holds me back at that point. A piston plus adv rotor with even 1 drill offset by 1 block (put a conveyor/junction on the rotor, then mount a drill on the side of that conveyor) cores out a 3-block wide tunnel that completely jumpstarts/bootstraps everything. I see a lot of series starting out that spend way longer on hand drilling than they need to. Oh, and of course vehicle drills (small or large grid) auto-pickup stone and ore, unlike hand drills -- that alone is worth the effort to rush a small grid drill then large grid drill. There used to be an auto-pickup hand drill mod, but it appears to have become unusable..? :(

Not for your particular series or interests, but re: drunken flying/movement mod, I've previously thought it would be fun for certain "hardcore survival" themed plays to have tangible gameplay impacts from survival needs being met/not met. The current EDSR and DNSK survival mods don't touch this at all beyond having sleep, food, and water being additional simple meters to fill. I've seen a couple minor mods on the Workshop that promise this re: starvation and sleep deprivation, but they're out of date and seemingly not currently maintained/worked on. The main challenge is to implement this in a way that has clear game mechanics with correlation between player choices and consequences, doesn't frustrate or punish the player excessively (provided they know what they signed up for by adding the mod), and adds to the fun of the game loop. e.g. you mentioned normally never really using the med kits and power kits. I agree re: this and the current EDSR/DNSK food/water/sleep mods. once we overcome some fairly low early-game construction hurdles, they quickly become irrelevant beyond regularly keeping XYZ quantities of stuff in our inventory. For being intoxicated, drugged, or tired, it'd be great if we could implement random momentary (0.1 to .5 second?) Q and E roll motions to our engineer (similar to how an engineer gets off-axis when trying to walk/run with no jetpack in zero-gravity), as well as random momentary WASD inputs and/or tiny speed decreases. Also, screen gray-out towards blackout blinks. All of these would scale from initially barely noticeable and no inconvenience on gameplay, all the way to literally falling over tired/drunk. "time to kill" would be very clearly and gradually scaled so the player has plenty of time to see it coming.

Re: the power tether mod (which I also really like) and showing "only the current grid"... There's a "better grid search" plug-in mod that adds a "this grid only" search function to any grid terminal window. You use the "#" key in the search field, and it limits the displayed list of blocks to only what's actually on the current grid you're accessing. It'll not recognize subgrids on a multigrid design ship (like your shuttle w its autocannons on the wing mounts), but otherwise is a godsend when you have multiple ships docked to a base or mothership. Highly recommend. (as well as the separate multigrid projector and multigrid projector extra mods by Viktor, to project and rotate projections more easily)

I've been getting recommendations for a lot of sub-1k YT SE survival series recently. Love that you have a fairly substantial objective spelled out, with backstory that doesn't take itself too seriously. Like, the objective makes sense (by tapping into a commonly overlooked throwaway bit of RotJ, which has been around for only a few decades :D How did that shield station bunker get to Endor's moon? Well now we'll know...), isn't just a random "plunk a base with XYZ blocks here". A lot of these series struggle to initially find a raison d'etre, and their self-set objectives can be somewhat haphazard. I also dig that you're not going for the too-scripted dialogue that some of the more well-known channels attempt. Initial objective, then just casual stream of consciousness as you play, makes for a much friendlier and accessible video (and I would hope is less effort than scripting).
