i had an old wii that glitched and caused it to not work anymore, we lost it while wanting to fix it, this year for my birthday (dec 3), im sacrificing a mario gaming chair i wanted for the Wii and nsmb wii.

Underrated

Wii (RVL-001), Xbox 360 S, PS4, Nintendo 3DS XL/LL. Get 'em, mod 'em, love 'em forever. They can close down the e-stores, they can create obstacles to repairing or replacing components that were designed to have a very limited lifespan, they can (and have) even threaten legal action against their own loyal customers for trying to keep their cherished devices alive. No more reliance on fragile discs or aging/cheap drive motors in irreplaceable (or at least super difficult to replace) optical drives. No more being virtually bent over the barrel by "influencer" collectors driving the prices of physical copies well outside rationality. No more allowing the manufacturers to decide when we stop playing our beloved games. We paid for it, we expect it to work. It's ours, their ever-changing scope and definition of "licensing" be damned. We'll sell it off when we're good and ready, not when they tell us it's time.

You should buy a Wii U. Because it's compatible with Wii games, and the moding is awesome. It also mostly works with the homebrew within the wii.

I mod Super Mario Galaxy in my free time and honestly, the Wii is so freaking amazing. Even without modding it’s so good; but then with mods, it’s fucking great… nice video!

I think the Wii U is better, it can play wii games, you can mod it (plays basically every Nintendo console besides the 3DS), and has more games. The Wii is great but I'd invest in a Wii U

Imo the best reason to mod a wii outside of "wii" stuff is retro gaming. Wii was kind of the first hackable console to emulate so many games like computers can and that's really cool. You can play pretty much the entire nintendo library up to that point (including gamecube without needing the controller) and even most of the sega consoles and ps1. (Ds emulation sucks though) and between the wiimote, nunchuck, classic controller, the nes/snes classic controllers, etc. You have many options to play all of them. The awkward resoluton of the wii also makes the emulation better? It ends up blending pixels in ways you'd expect on old crts (the sonic waterfall for one) and overall blurs a good line between jaggedly clear and unplayably foggy. If you want a "true" retro experience or just want to play more hardcore games that the wii itself can't provide, emulation is the way to go.

Wii was the first console we (haha) had at home that felt like it was meant for me. It wasn't BOUGHT for me, but in the end I was the one that ended up using it the most. That same Wii is now on my TV console :) Because I'll be damned if dad just lets a Mario Red edition Wii rot in a closet
