How to Build a Bed Platform for Car Camping
I'll teach you how to build a simple platform bed in a compact car like my Subaru Crosstrek. You can sleep comfortably with it if you are living in your vehicle or just using the car for long camping trips. No more campground fees, no more backaches from napping in the tiny front seat! I travel full-time with a 75-pound Golden Retriever and this bed provides a great night's sleep for him AND me, and we are both senior citizens. All you will need is a sheet of plywood, three piano hinges and a tape measure!

    I used to spend a lot of time up there but haven't been back for a dozen years. Nice to see they finally paved that road, it was full of boulders when I was last there.

    Nice improvements on the west side since I travelled from BV to Taylor Reservoir one day for some fly fishing below the dam back in 2008. Thanks for the update, the scenery and the memories.

    Do you leave Sully alone in the RV? How do you monitor the temperature inside the RV while you’re away?

    • @PhotoTrippingAmerica
      @PhotoTrippingAmerica 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      I do leave Sully in the RV in various scenarios, but if the weather is hot (or too cold) I only do so when we are hooked up to shore power, so that I can leave the air conditioner (or heater) running to keep him comfortable. I have considered getting a pet monitor system, but so far I haven't left him when we are boondocking where I couldn't leave an air conditioner running. When he travels with me in the car for extended periods of time, I set up two rechargeable fans in the back seat and leave a bowl of water for him with the windows down. If I am somewhere where the temps are hot enough to require air conditioning, I leave the car running with the air conditioner going and lock the doors, but this is only for an hour or so. I have a car that has a key fob and talked with my mechanic about how to do that. You may want to look into that with your mechanic, if it is an issue.

  • @georgem7965
    @georgem7965 3 ปีที่แล้ว

    Nice. I haven't been over Cottonwood Pass since the new paving (thank you covid). This certainly makes the trip easier but I never thought the west side was that bad. Actually, this probably makes Taylor Park closer to Buena Vista time wise than it is to Gunnison because of the winding nature of the highway below Taylor Park Dam.

    • @marksteiner3810
      @marksteiner3810 ปีที่แล้ว

      Agree about west side. The only time I took it was in 2004; no dust, almost no splash, very firm. You are right about the winding stretch above Gunnison. Very scenic, and very slow! Thanks.

Staying in Buena Vista for a couple of days, and will be taking the drive to Taylor Park Reservoir. The video is really nice, I haven't been on the road since it opened this year. I was there two years ago and the road was closed, under construction, so we went to Cottonwood lake instead and road the trail all the way up to the end, also beautiful scenery.
