I started smoking cigars at age 14. I was in 9th grade and the swimming season ended. I walked into Sears and bought a cigar and a lighter and smoked on my way walking home. It was a celebration the season ended, and a mourning of my dad passing.

Thats similar to how I got into it, although I didn't get a humidor and buy and bulk until much more recently. But absolutely its all about slowing down, reflecting and enjoying life. I also sorta use cigars as a reward for keeping up the healthier aspects of my life, eating well, excising, staying away from sugar and processed stuff.

I used to smoke once a year in vegas at nice lounges as my friend was into them. Did that since 2010 but never had much interest, as was only smoking montecristo. Then last year i had my first Ashton, and now i have a humidor with 200 cigars ranging from Aj fernandez, oliva, ashton, fuente, padron, rp. I usually smoke 2-3 back to back as a form of meditation, but with friends will just smoke one churchill. Im 37, and im a poker player. I play in the wsop evwey year and theres a lot of poker players (generally older) that smoke cigars

I avoided Cigars for many years, as a former cigarette smoker and someone who has had family members die of lung cancer, I've seen how addictive cigarettes are.... what I didn't realize is that cigarettes are basically engineered to keep users addicted. All kinds of chemicals are added to make them addictive and also deadlier. Cigars are a different beast... I find that they don't have nearly the physiological proneness to becoming super habit forming. I dont feel like ants crawling on my skin or any of the other effects of nicotine withdrawal that I used to get with cigarettes. Now maybe it's because they aren't inhaled like cigarettes are, I'm not sure. I do still get a nicotine buzz when smoking, but I don't feel a "need" to smoke a cigar every day. Now, as far as how I got into cigars or why I find them attractive, it's largely culture and history. Naturally, cigar smoking is common in Latin former Spanish empire colonies. I love learning all the spanish terminology for cigars, everything from the different vitolas, to the different parts of the tobacco plant like ligero, medio tiempo, volado and seco. I'm also from Florida, which has a long history with both Cigars and Spanish speaking peoples. Florida was discovered by the Spanish and was part of the Spanish empire for years. Anyway, naturally cigar culture tends to have roots in Spanish/American history, which is fascinating. Also, like you said, no cigar experience is exactly the same. There are brands that lend themselves to a similar experience and usually trend towards excellence (thinking Padron cigars myself). Every blend is a little different and offers a different experience.

Beautiful view you have out that back porch. I hear the cicadas singin'! Farming is never easy but it sure is calming and I like the trade off, granted I haven't had a day off in over 15 years and I fantasize about that vacation regularly. My daddy always says "We work in acres...not hours" and sometimes I need to work at night to catch up; but It's nice to sit, and count your blessings once in a while and remind yourself what all the hard work is for when you need to. There's no shame in taking a break if you are checking the boxes. Happy Smokes brother.

Charles, 9 pm on Friday, 26th here in the UK ! Good to hear your thoughts on pipe tobacco storage. A useful tip for tobacco which is dry is to add a piece or two of apple or even potato peel and leave them to work their magic for a few days in making the tobacco moist without affecting taste/flavour. Enjoy the fishing - hope that great weather continues. James

My first car when I turned 16 in 1978 was my grandfather's hand me down 1970 Buick Electra. It was a land yacht for sure and I loved that car. I drove it through high school and college. Coming home from college one weekend a drunk driver in a Chevrolet suburban crossed the center line and hit me head on. Both vehicles were totaled but I wasn't. Because of the size and quality of the Electra along with the fact that I was that rare kid back then that buckled up both the lap and separate shoulder belts, I walked away with only minor cuts and scratches and bruises from the belts. When I started driving,I got in the good habit of wearing the belts before it was the law or "cool" to do so. I would get in the car, turn the ignition, push in the cigarette lighter, buckle up both the lap and shoulder belts, light up a cigarette ( bad habit ) and drive off. Both habits continue to this day. Seat belts have saved me a couple of times but the jury is still out on the smoking but it's a habit I don't over indulge in and truly enjoy and savor. Never could get the same pleasure from a pipe or a cigar. Maybe I didn't find the right one. Really enjoy your channel.
