    I know this isn't going to be well received, but I completely disagree. I use to learn this way and now I go to an ecological school. Warm-ups are a waste of time they don't transfer to skill. Dead drilling is a waste of time. (Drilling with no resistance) The transfer to sparring is hard at best. It doesn't teach the timings. Begginers should be expected to do full sparring on day one. It upsets me that I use to train with techniques. So much so that whenever I come across this topic on places like this I try to say something. I learn more in a week doing ecological dynamics then I do in 3 months with techniques.

      Everyone’s welcome to their opinion- try this - get a guy in his 40s , hasn’t exercised in a decade and get him trying to roll… he’ll wake up so sore , if he doesn’t quit during training and unlikely to return. I vary training a lot depending on who’s in class and always keep things fresh - but starting with drilling for many in my school is the best way forwards for them. Look at the Navy Sesls they have a crawl , walk then run method - everyone starts at the very bottom , the minimum level then progresses based on competence- if Micheal Phelps turns up he sits in class and learns how to swim What works for a young athletic person isn’t right for an over 40 or over 50 I have guys over 64 so they all start w just drilling as that’s tonnes of a work out for their body. We do game style stuff too - I’m a professional coach not just a black belt trying to teach like many. I’ve been studying human movement and psychology for 40 years have run 9 schools so I see the benefits of many styles of coaching and learning and always have an open mind.

      @robwilliamsbjj8446 You raise a number of points. You're right that some people can't roll out of the gate at 100% I'd reword and say that for optimal learning, begginers should go at 100% I can go 100% with anyone with constraints. To go to extreme examples, maybe I'm only allowed to use my left arm, or maybe I'm only allowed to triangle choke, and I'm starting with my back taken. Maybe I need to escape back control, then put my partner in a triangle in under a minute, and I can't utilise my right arm. I don't doubt that you're an experienced coach. I'd ask if you've explored the literature on ecological dynamics? Henry Ford said, "If I asked my customers what they want, they would have said a faster horse." I was sceptical that my coach planned on NEVER teaching techniques straight out of the gate. Now that I have results, I'm a complete convert. This is the reason Kit Dale got his blue belt in 4 weeks and a black belt in 4 years. There are reasons why most people don't even make it to blue belt. Respectfully, if you're an experienced coach or have studied psychology, it doesn't validate the argument. I, for example, use a microwave all the time yet would have no clue on how to make one.

    Is it true that 90 percent of white belts don't make it to blue? Do you have a sample of your curriculum for white belts? Its interesting that you prioritise the mount for white belts. Does that apply to maintaining mount too?

    • @robwilliamsbjj8446
      @robwilliamsbjj8446 3 วันที่ผ่านมา

      Yes that does. It’s the go to position in almost every street fight so apart from guard and scarf hold it’s very important- every class every day starts with a Mount escape. I have our curriculum on my phone and in booklets most students have - so they can tick them off and make notes beside them. Eventually I’d like to get it all online. Most is on here. Similar to Pedro Sauers tests I just have more throws and most Gracie Combatives techniques

    Interesting video. Competed in powerlifting at the local level and its pretty obvious some were "on". See it in Jiu jitsu at the hobbyist level too. Not many but a couple. I didn't see the Ruotolo brothers interview but Im shocked they train at such a low frequency for their level. Very interesting insights from you. I think alot of these giys pay the price with their health. Gordon Ryan is a prime example. I dont know what else he has to prove. He should relax and prioitise his health now. Alot of other K1 fighters either died or are suffering the effects of steroids. Personally I think TRT is too much of a crutch but each to his/her own.

      Always start with Jiu Jitsu - it’s the best base for everything else to build on - you can add Thai boxing and boxing after but don’t at a proper mma school where it’s a system - the stance and foot work for Thai and boxing often gets corrupted and purist coaches will complain about your stance ( my experience) There’s a great you tube video of Mighty Mouse interviewing Kade Ryuatolo ( spelt wrong ) yesterday where both explain it well..

    • @robwilliamsbjj8446
      @robwilliamsbjj8446 8 วันที่ผ่านมา

      @@BeepBoop2221 if they’re using both hands to try and secure your arm there’s nothing protecting / blocking your hips so escaping should be easy. The time escape is not once a lock is applied - it’s as it’s getting set up. Also, most people don’t frame correctly, don’t hip escape correctly too. Also, you don’t have to keep your arm framing against their neck - it can reside in the far side pretty safely. I’ve done videos on escaping side control so I’d suggest watching those first.

    How do you train, knees, elboes, heDbutts against a live person? Ive seen training whrre a woman goes up against a padded assailant with an oversized helmet. Its called the Bulletman suit. Peyton Quinn and U think Bill Kipp wete the pioneers of thus training.

    • @robwilliamsbjj8446
      @robwilliamsbjj8446 17 วันที่ผ่านมา

      Those suits would be awesome - but likely very expensive. When I started Jiu Jitsu we just trained that way on each other - hence why most older Bjj guys are wrecked physically. Mostly we just drill moves and if people wanted to go hard they’re welcome too - although most don’t. Most self defence is grappling and not a lot of striking. Once you have control of people you really don’t need to hit them much and striking on the ground is pretty simple due to lack of distance

      @@alessiochiaramonte8388 kata Guruma is a throw I’ve learned but never used at all in a randori or fight situation - I think there’d be some amazing tutorials on it online. Pulling guard is very hard to predict unless you know the fighter , the school they come from to know their habits. Also traditionally guard pullers were lanky with poor posture and no butt and typically walked duck footed. These days it’s so prolific you can’t tell based on body type but definitely some schools prefer it and do no throwing. We do zero guard pulling at the gym as I don’t want to encourage it. As always with facing most types of guard don’t allow the soles of their feet to touch you. Check out my video about “ Dirty Feet” - a game we play to teach students not to allow feet on them. I know a little about grip fighting but no expert when it comes to standup. It’s a real science the judo guys have really invested in. I know a few basics. I’d assume it really depends on the throws you specialise in - I’d start there. Are you taller than average for your weight? Are you shorter? I teach a few basic combinations for each scenario. Will post more tmw - filmed last night but videos won’t upload sorry.
