Late comment, but I just started watching you today (new fan), but to answer your gas station overcharge question- yes, that is normal. I used to work for a bank, and some gas stations charge something like a deposit. I guess it's to make sure the card works. But yeah, I live in PA. we have Wawa, and their charge is $1.00. It's refunded once ur actually gas is posted

I'm 23 years old and in a similar situation. I racked up about $12,000 (not including my student loans, but I'm still in school) in credit card debt when I was 20-22 years old. I only make about 1,400 monthly so it is really difficult to make a dent. I really recommend watching Caleb Hammer on TH-cam, I feel like his videos help the most for me to learn about finances because they're entertaining and relatable. After watching a few of his videos and seeing the cycle people get into with unnecessary spending it's really caused me to rethink certain purchases lol. I think paying down your debt no matter how or when you get there, is a great thing.

Folks, if you are looking to end you CC debt look into velocity banking, it could help you out big time.

Focus on saving up an emergency fund first, then go full steam ahead on paying off the debt. I absolutely promise its worth it. It's going to suck for awhile cutting back to pay it off quicker, but in the end you wont regret it. You're still young so you have such a huge opportunity to set yourself up to be financially secure early on. You got this!

Follow Dave Ramsey. Cut up the credit cards, get a second job or side hustle and attack your debt smallest to largest. It’s worth the effort. And it works. I promise

Thanks for sharing your journey! I would highly recommend building at least a small emergency fund first ($500-$1,000). You’re absolutely right that sometimes your needs are higher than your income, so you’ll have to turn to credit cards, which only keeps you in that debt trap longer. An emergency fund really helps to avoid the damage from those unexpected expenses. Plus, most personal finance people will tell you that building an emergency fund should be step 1 before paying down any debt (Caleb Hammer, The Money Guys, Dave Ramsey, etc). Good luck!

Hi Jill! I was in a similar position as you last June (around 12K high interest CC debt, no savings, and going in and out of the debt cycle). I buckled down and picked up overtime and paid that off by November that same year. I then paid off a 7K and 5K student loan. Since then I've started investing (over 20K since last June) and have built a hefty 12 month emergency fund + starting a Home DP savings. Never in a thousand years did I think I could do this. Please know it is possible! You already have the mindset and determination, just allow time and dedication to do the rest! Wishing you luck and safe travels! <3

Just something to think about - it might be worth putting some money into an emergency fund at the same time you are paying off the cards. This should hopefully help you to avoid needing to put anything on cards. Also, if you already don't do so, I find having sinking funds for bills and expenses works really well.

Get an extra job. 9k isn't much debt to pay off.

Happy July, You are awesome for working more hours. I can barely get myself through an 8 hour shift ( which really ends up being 9 because of lunch break). I don’t know how you do 10 to 12 hours a shift. I could only start early at like 6 am if it meant I was getting off by 2 or 3 pm not still working until 5pm

It frustrates me so much when I go to a grocery store and they are out of items and I end up having to go to a different store. I know it’s not a big deal it’s just more time that it takes to get things done.
