This is the footage of the funeral of Hiram Cronk (1800-1905), the last known veteran of the War of 1812 from either side. In this video, you can see some Rough Riders, followed by veterans of the US Civil War escorting the hearse.

Voice of Ignaz Brüll
มุมมอง 3K15 ปีที่แล้ว
A brief audio file of the voice of composer Ignaz Brüll (1846-1907). I haven't heard much of his music, but what I have heard is FANTASTIC. His Piano Concerto #1 and Piano Concerto #2 are both brilliant, and I'd advise anyone to check them out! He was a student of another composer I consider amazing: Johann Rufinatscha, who composed some of the most astounding forgotten symphonies out there.
Albert Woolson - Last Confirmed US Civil War Veteran
มุมมอง 366K15 ปีที่แล้ว
This is colour video of Albert Woolson, the last Union veteran of the US Civil War; he is also the last absolutely confirmed veteran of that conflict from either side. This footage, as far as I know, is the very last footage taken of a US Civil War veteran at all. I believe at least one still photograph of Woolson was taken after this video, however. Woolson outlived the second-last Union veter...
John Salling, Confederate Veteran Claimant

Audio interview with John Salling (1858-1959), who was claimed to be the second-to-last veteran of the US Civil War. Was survived a few months by one other veteran claimant who has also been proven as a faker. Last confirmed veteran was Albert Woolson (died 1956). Last confirmed Confederate was Pleasant Crump (died 1951), but William J. Bush (died 1952) was probably legitimate as well. In any c...
Civil War Veterans

Some random footage from the Battle of Gettysburg reunion during the 75th anniversary of the conflict, filmed in 1938. The Battle of Gettysburg was fought during the USA's Civil War, from 1-3 July, 1863. The veterans shown here were from the war in general, not specifically present at the Battle of Gettysburg; that battle, seen as the most important single one during the war, was simply used as...
Rebel Yell at Gettysburg

75th anniversary of the Battle of Gettysburg, 1938. Footage of Confederate and Union veterans shaking hands over a stone wall. I don't know if this wall contained stones used in a stone wall during the actual battle in 1863, but probably so. It starts with the old veterans shaking hands and calling "Hello Yankee" and "Hello Johnny" and things like that, then one Confederate near the camera take...
