How does it all fit: SHOP TOUR - Collapsable Small-Garage Woodworking Shop
Watch as I explain my Collapsable, Small Shop Setup and still fit two cars in this 6m x 6m Garage.
My Wife and I are moving from our house in Far North Queensland to the family home in South Australia. Before I leave, I wanted to document my simple yet functional workspace I’ve developed over the past couple years. I’ll show you through my collapsable setup including showing the functionality of my table saw bench, mitre saw, thicknesser, Rack-it System, Small parts storage and more.
I make it clear in the video that the reason I cannot just dedicate a side of the shop to woodworking and park on the street is local youth crime issues where I live. But less about that.
Always looking for tips and comments.

Making an Angled Wine Rack
มุมมอง 5344 หลายเดือนก่อน
This was a design I have made before, an angular wine rack that holds 10 bottles of whatever you fancy. The holder is made of yet another mystery wood, this time I’m thinking American Oak boards glued and sold as a project panel from #bunnings. To create this wine rack, my Wife and I simply shortened the board and cut a 14-degree angle into the top piece. From there we use a forstner bit to cut...
Refreshing an IKEA Classic using Recycled timber - RÅSKOG Trolley Top

Ikea sell this functional and strong, Three Shelf trolley they call a RÅSKOG and it comes with a Bamboo wooden shelf lid which I really like for its functionality. I do not however love the look of bamboo boards and so in this video I will utilise a left-over panel I glued up for the Pacific Folding Bar project last year. These Jarrah tongue and groove floorboards sand up nicely and due to bein...

Making a Shelf for the Couch out of recycled timber

    Definitely try the 3M Xtract Cubitron II sanding discs. They come in a mesh or solid with multiple holes. The mesh is best for dust collection, but the solid ones last a bit longer. Both are better than anything else on the market (IMO). The cheapest place I've found them in small quantities is Sydney Tools, but I think Hammer Roo might do better pricing for bulk quantities (50+).

      Pricey, thanks for the recommendations, How are they for tearing and exposing the veltcro surface, or is that what the pad saver is for?

    • @PriceyBuilt
      @PriceyBuilt 5 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @@fairbairnfurnishings I've never had one tear. The mesh is quite robust. They wear out around the edges slightly quicker but they work so much better they're still good value.

    It's a beautiful piece you made, it really is. I'm just confused by all of that work for gaining what five six more inches on either side? I think I would have made something that added at least a foot on either side. I don't think that's going to help in the least with something like an 8 ft or a 10 ft piece of wood.

    • @fairbairnfurnishings
      @fairbairnfurnishings 5 หลายเดือนก่อน

      I truly agree! The problem I have had so far is actually stability. If I added a table that was longer at this point where it’s on a small trolley I fear it would either allow the indeed to lift the table and cause snipe or it would lead to the entire cart becoming more unstable due to the long reach. If I’m honest I would say this was a chance to play with a new toy, build and film something but it’s not the last you’ll see of this thicknesser and I’ll definitely take your advice when I can build more robust base.

    Nice project. Thanks for taking the time to share. I’ve broken some woodworking rules in the past to achieve the design I wanted. But one I would be very concerned about breaking is glueing a cross grained board to the end of a panel. You glued and biscuited the cross grain board rather than doing something like a breadboard that would leave room for movement. Maybe in the next video you could comment on that design choice.

    • @fairbairnfurnishings
      @fairbairnfurnishings 9 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Typically you would be right. There is however another school of thought that says that so long as you add a domino, biscuit or dowel that you’ll be fine with bread boarding panels as these joiners add extra gluing surfaces not as impacted by seasonal wood movement . I think you are right in some instances however these were potentially 70-100 year old floor boards which were well and truly dry so the risk of movement is lower than typical.

  • @FairbairnFilms

    Nice but how do you get the angle right for it to sit on its own. Do you do any math? Or do you cut it bit by bit to slowly get it right?

    • @fairbairnfurnishings
      @fairbairnfurnishings ปีที่แล้ว

      Thanks for the comment concerned TH-camr.. made a few of these before and I found that 30 degrees is about right, 45degrees is too harsh and bottles half full sometimes topple over and anything less than 30 won’t stand up properly
