Digital Photography | Film Photography | Instant Film Photography | Photography on a Budget
I love photography, all types of photography but I don't have a fortune to spend on gear.
I will give most types of camera, genres and techniques a go and I encourage you to give them a try too, no matter what kind of camera you have!
Speaking of which, I like to shoot with a variety of cameras, the stranger the better in some cases! The cameras I use include the very popular entry level DSLR, Nikon D3300, the budget bridge camera; the Panasonic FZ82, and it's bigger brother the FZ1000. Then there are the analogue 35mm/120 film cameras, instant film cameras and retro digital cameras...
If you are like me, you enjoy your photography but the thought of spending a four figure sum on a camera body or lens scares you then this might be the channel for you!

Digicam Photography Project | Canon A480 FREEBIE
I was recently gifted a digicam by a friend and channel supporter @WanderingwithWatto . The Canon A480 is a 10mp CCD sensor digicam from 2009. I quite like this little brick, nicely constructed it betrays it's low price when new. That's all well and good, but what shall I photograph?
Whilst out for a lunchtime walk, I came up with a project - NUMBERS, could I capture some interesting photographs involving numbers - oh, I do like a creative challenge. I hope you enjoy the images and why not take the challenge, too!

Nice little project and nice images as a result 4:02 i think was my fav , made me stop and think Whats that ?
@LeePelling Cheers Lee, yeah, it was a drain cover. I just thought I try a theme in a video for a change.
Great work Andy - and well done to Watto for giving his dad's camera a deserved new lease of life. I still have a CCD compact, an Olympus, and it has the same zoom range of this one. I actually prefer to use primes rather than zooms these days though. This looked a lovely and still worthwhile pocketable camera. I can't get on with using a mobile phone for photography - tactile experience is rubbish, and I like the experience of using a piece of tech that doesn't bombard you with notifications. I like to always have a small camera with me at all times. My favourite photo on this great photo project - the number '3' sliced through at 2:59 by the blue shipping container - but you had some really worthy shots there overall. Super work! Take care, Paul
@westcountrywanderings Thanks, Paul. It was very generous of Paul to think of me and send me the cameras. Both primes and zooms have their place. I photographed Whitby Goth Weekend on Saturday. The shots I got with my 50 mm prime were probably my favourite, but sometimes it was far too long for the crowds, so the 10-20 mm wide angle and even the 18-55 mm kit lens came in handy. As for compact point and shoots, I find them quite liberating to concentrate purely on the composition. They can put the fun back into photography. Phones, like yourself, I find them a bit of a sterile experience and much prefer a dedicated camera. Thanks for watching.
So good to see Andy. Thanks for the shoutout and breathing life back into the camera. Great results tbh. You k kw I’m gonna say the monochrome but weirdly I like the man hole cover too. 🤷🏻♂️. Top job and great knowing it is being used again. 🤜🏻🤛🏻
@WanderingwithWatto Thanks for thinking of me when picking out those cameras. Everyone gets fixated about megapixels, but unless you are printing large format prints, having an eye for an image is more important, IMO.
Great idea for a project. The different materials, textures and styles make it effective and interesting. I didn't notice the photos being unsharp but you can't pixel peep on YT. Keith
@theoldunsshot1005 Thanks, Keith. I thought I'd try a theme when out shooting with this camera as I didn't want to end up with the usual shots on this walking route. The shot of the brass number 20 isn't as sharp as I'd like, but it was at the full extent of the zoom, so perhaps the lens is way past it's sharpest point by then.
Love the black & white what looks like some sort of crane wheels image Andy, for a free little camera m8 those pics are quite impressive 👍
Thanks Andy, yes I love that shot, too. Incidently, it's a boat crane for lifting craft out and onto the dock for repairs. It had numbers on it, so I made a photo out of it.
Great little project Andy - a while back I shot a similar collection of doors and windows - individually not that inspiring but as a collection it worked well. #4 at 3:09 was my favourite as well as #8 3:29.
Thanks Andrew. I wasn't sure what I was going to shoot with this little Canon. I've taken many photos on my lunchtime walk and didn't really want to repeat the same shots. I thought this was a nice change.
Nice photos from the fun little camera. Great idea for a photo project. I may just steal it, I mean try it myself XD.
@@sunnyrain_0o0 Thanks for watching, and feel free to use the numbers Idea yourself, I'm sure I'll not be the first to think of it.
That was great Andy. Think it was more to do with the photographers eye. 3:02 for me mate 👍
Thanks, Phil, that's an image I like too. Having an eye for images always helps no matter the camera.
You almost had me driving up north then to fill up....had to double take on that petrol pump! Loved how you used numbers to pull together this collection mate, made for such an intersting concept and shows the power of the collective rather than the singular when photography is coupled with a simple idea. A gallery of great storytelling
Yes, the fuel pump at the Marina. I just came up with the concept for the video/ images and ran with it, I wasn't 100% sure what I was going to come across on my wander but I was quite happy with how the little Canon performed.
Nice to see my Dad's camera being used. Thanks Andy 🧸🐻
Thanks for watching Ellie. I like to give a home to old cameras that would probably end up in recycling.
Nifty little camera there, Andy. It takes good pictures 😊
Thanks, DL. It was fun to shoot with it. Not many controls to worry about, just concentrate on the composition.
Can you use it on a Canon FF?
I believe they did do a Canon mount. I'm not sure if it was APSC or FF for the Canon. I know it was only an APSC lens for the Nikon, and you get a lot of border vignettes if used on full frame, so be prepared to crop your images.
I follow and expect🤞
Now then. That was on a different level mate. great Edit. love the Churchyard footage and you got some great shots. You know me so won't be surprised to hear the Monochrome are my favs. Good stuff mate. Enjoyed that.
@@WanderingwithWatto Thanks so much for watching Watto. There were some great subjects to photograph in that cemetery.
I feel an Oscar coming on! You reminded me, I bought a new DSLR when I retired 14 years ago and hardly every used it, sad to rear that it will most lightly be worthless. Not sure but I think my grandad is buried in that churchyard and some great B Roll and photos, very colourful and tastefully done. Cheers Alan
Thanks for watching my other channel, Alan. What kind of camera have you got? Most of my gear is considered classic now. It doesn't stop you taking good images.
😂 great way to start the video. I always expect the eyes on the statue to blink. Great wee mashup.
Thanks, Paul. I thought I'd do something fun for Halloween.
Wonderful Andy. Great experiment and brilliant results and very appropriate for Halloween. Thanks for sharing such great images mate. Cheers
@stephenmathewcowen6792 Thanks for watching Stephen. I thought I'd do something fun for Halloween, but I was really happy with the images I got. It's a definite win.
Fun video - Loved the image at 7:39
@theoldcameraguy Thanks for watching Dave. I was pretty happy with the images, this lens has a reputation for being a bit of a dog.
If it works, why not!! Pretty great results I'd say! Well done there, Doctor Frankenstein!!
@wendingourway Thanks, Bruce. I was pretty pleased with the images, much better than I expected.
Nicely edited video. As soon as I heard you say "29mm f2.8" I thought "Kill it with fire!", but you seem to have found an OK copy - I have two and they are both dreadful. I like the look of that cemetery too. I am planning to do a video using my digital and some M42 lenses, but I'll probably be comparing some Eastern Bloc 50s or thereabouts. Keith
@@theoldunsshot1005 Thanks for watching Keith. I'm wondering if the one inch sensor is using the very centre of the lens (possibly the good bit) as I ended up with a hefty crop factor, making the lens about a 70mm.
nice experiment !!!! Happy Halloween 🎃
Thanks for watching and commenting, I hope you enjoyed the video.
I was once given a lens by an ex work colleague, he'd had it in the back of his car for years, it was mouldy as hell but I cleaned it up nicely, I had to find out what camera it was meant for, twas a Pentax of some sort, then see if there was an adapter for it for a Nikon, still have it somewhere, oh it was a Zeiss lens 14mm too, so worth saving.
Old glass is definitely worth saving. With them being manual focus, they aren't much cop for action shots but great for portraits and other still subjects. 14mm on my Nikon 1 would be quite handy. This 29mm full frame lens works out as a 70mm or so on the 1-inch sensor camera.
Cat needs feeding mate
Lol
Check you out feeling the Halloween vibes! This is great and well done on bringing Frank back from the dead he took some great shots even if heavy! Happy Halloween 🎃👍
Thanks for watching Nick and Jill. It was a fun project, but I need to get down the gym to use this on a regular basis. There isn't enough of a grip on that camera to comfortably hold it for any length of time. I was happy with the pics though.
Great photos Andy. A successful experiment I would say 🧸🐻
Thanks Ellie, I really enjoyed putting together this video and recycling parts of an otherwise broken camera.
Really enjoyed that Andy 😊 great job with the thumbnail, the spooky effects and all the photos were great. Have a great Halloween 👻 🎃
Thanks Yasmin, I love messing around with old cameras so this was a fun video to make, I wasn't expecting to get as many good images from the shoot as I did. Have a great Halloween.
It's not even out yet but just wanted to say Awesome job on that thumbnail mate, looks fantastic! Looking forward to watching.
I had fun creating it, Dave. A bit of Ai and a bit of photoshop. The photography in the video isn't bad either. It makes up for the terrible puns throughout. 😂
Hi Andrew! As always I enjoyed your video. I like when you buy cheap cameras to test them out! Best Duane
Thanks, Duane. I don't think they come much cheaper than this one. It was pretty terrible, though. You might like the next two videos I have coming up as they've both photography on the budget.
Who needs a Hasselblad when you've got this?! Like you said, it's hard to know who this is for. I'm sure you can pick up something second hand for £40 that will have better quality. You still got some nice compositions though. I liked the shadow on the ground and the one of the reflected boat quite a lot.
I think you can get better for way less than £40, you just have to look a bit harder to find them. I have a video in two week's time that easily proves it. Next week is a Halloween special 👻
Almost cartoon like images, particularly the one with the green car. Thanks for sharing mate
Thanks for watching Tim. At £14 it's definitely a cheapshot contender, just not a great camera. The next two videos are definitely well into Cheapshot territory, I think you'll enjoy them.😉
My hassleblad must be in the same sorting office as yours ! I have spent many hours online browsing and buying cr@p I don't need. Enjoyed the tongue in cheek approach , hope your blad arrives soon !
The majority of the content of this channel is about the crap cameras I've bought on the Internet 😀.
Nice video 👍🙂
@stigfloberghagenphotography Thanks for watching and commenting. It's really appreciated 😊.
Interesting little review there Andy. The image quality reminds me of an old camera phone I once had (which I thought was great at the time) 👍😁
To be honest Phil, your phone was probably better. I just thought I do a less serious video for a change.
I think my camera got lost in the post too!
Not you as well, mate 😀
That pastel exterior is pretty enticing. The mirror/reflection feature was actually pretty cool too.
Indeed, Dave, I liked some of the more 'arty' filters, a shame the sensor is probably vga quality. Pastel, peppermint green is a winner for me, black would have been far too serious.
I'm sure that is actually a rebranded Heapacakka No.2 - a 48 pixel compact with 64 pixel emulation. Thanks be to God you are prepared to waste your money so that we don't, Andrew. I laughed out loud at Princess Anderella! Keith
Yep, I buy these things so you don't have to. Cheers for watching Keith.
Fireman Andy was a sight to behold....well so was Princess Andy but the dress might have been a little tight! hahaha. On the positive side, gotta love that colour aesthetic, it definitely makes it an easy way to sell a cheap ass camera to the generation who believe that the '80's was all neon brilliance and want hi-tech for cheap money - splash 64 mega pickles everywhere and make it a 'retro' colour, all style no substance.....dare I say much like Tik Tok! Saying that, you've almost sold it to me here - seeing it had games and fun filters on there and my kids well past using their 'Tommy fun kiddy cams' it might well make it something I actually buy - for £14 for kids, bit of a bargain. As for the video, love the deadpan approach mate, had me laughing throughout :)
I thought after the last 'serious' video, I'd do something daft. I find it amazing that there is an obviously strong ready market for these things. At £14 including delivery from China, this one was never going to be up to much, the ones that are priced at £50-£200 are the ones I think are the most cruel as they prey on those who want something good but don't have the budget. Thanks for watching Dave.
Very entertaining Andy 😂 TikTok and Temu - a foreign language to me 😂 With smartphones I’m not really sure who would buy this but thanks for going down the rabbit hole and spending your hard earned YT revenue to produce a quality review. I’m sure your Hasselblad is on its way btw 😂😂
@AndrewHamiltonPhotography I'm starting to wonder if it's been left with an unscrupulous neighbour 😂. I think they're being sold hard on having that 'Year 2K aesthetic' to impressionable youth and, of course, youtube photographers to make daft videos with. Thanks for watching, Andrew.
😆I have the white version and really like the photos taken with this digicam. They have that lovely Monet-esque vibes lol 😁
@sunnyrain_0o0 hi, I thought you might have one of these or something similar. Monet-esque, yes, I think that is the most polite way of describing the images. 😀 Thanks for watching.
Has stand-up comedian become your new profession!!?? LOL LOL Gotta love them mega pickles...after all, it is pickle making season! did I hear you say "early naughties (90's)", if so, I'd agree, if not, gotta see if I can find my Q-tips! lol Well, the images aren't horrible to me. Lots of fun was had with this one!! Helped make my day!
Thanks for watching Bruce, megapickles was a slip of the tongue, but I had to leave it in. I even created this video in 1080p rather than 4k to try and make the photos look better.
@@AndrewWaltonPhotography I for one loved it! I'd often do that toward the end of a rather hectic day of teaching...made the kids laugh as they head home with stories about the slip ups of their teacher! LOL
Pickles, I’m glad you left it in the video 🤣🤣 sorry mega pickles
I had to leave it in. I'm sure Megapickle is the only this thing has 48 or 64 of anything !
Yes, the TG-6 has its limitations; and I don’t expect mine to act like a DSLR. However, you can still get decent photos from it, plus it’s rugged as hell.
I don't expect my TG-6 to act like a dslr either, the chap who I referred to had some serious expectations, I think. I love the fact that I can take the TG-6 anywhere without worry. I hope to have a new TG-6/Olympus Tough series video soon as I've picked up some accessories for mine.
Thanks, very handy
Thanks for watching 🙂
Great video. I hope that you hung onto that £16 quid camera mate. I just bought a mint copy in box for ten times that amount!
@gunn1ng I still have it, but for some reason, the auto focus is a bit random when using the zoom. They're great little cameras for shooting street photography.
Andy you're a fine photographer! More power to you sir.
Thank you. 😊
@@AndrewWaltonPhotography 👌
I have a Nikon P900,thinking of buying either the fz82 or fz2000?
The fz82 won't give you anything that your P900 can't do (although it is smaller and lighter). The FZ2000 has the one inch sensor, which makes a huge difference in image quality.
@@AndrewWaltonPhotography Thankyou Andrew 😊 I think i will take a look at the FZ2000.I have £1000 to spend so the FZ2000 is definitely on my radar but may also consider a Canon.Great channel 😊❤️
