    I've got the 30 inch one with the orange handle and hand guard. I use it to trim the bushes down once a year so they don't touch the power and phone lines. I get it sharpened professionally.

    5:24 That's not a turkey. It's a male western capercailie ( _Tetrao urogallus_ ), which is a heavy grouse species. The males, or cocks, have a fanned tail for displaying during mating season, which makes it look a bit similar to a turkey I guess. The grouse head on the handle is also of the same species but more similar-looking to other, lighter grouses. The Finnish name of this bird is "metso", and hence that particular knife from Marttiini is known as "Metsopuukko".

    The particularity of the puukkots is to have the back of the blade straight, no guard and the handle, quite simply, slightly oval.

    I have many knives, even a few Randalls! But I have to say, something happened to me as a knife nerd once I got my first Fällkniven Knife. All the other knives became less intressting! Not bad or less well made or anything, the little Fällkniven F1 just out shined them all, since then an S1 an A1 and a Garm quickly followed. Their not the best looking, but ohboy do they inspire confidance! Mind you I even like the sheaths. ;)

    I’ve had 2 of these knives , a short and long one, in my hunting bag for over 30 years. I just found out about the history of the maker yesterday! I’m so excited to have learned that they are not just a couple regular fillet knives. 🔪 They cut so well so sharp. It was gifted to me by my father in law with his hunting gear/orange hunting clothes. So cool 😊

    I have an 'upside down BOC' - an M7 which had the blade and cross guard fitted the wrong way round. It was a factory boo-boo which I have never seen before or after, so I feel I have a fairly unusual example. And - yes, i also have a Buck - once owned by an Afghanistan vet.

    Quick tip for turning the stock A1 sheath into a very nice, non rattling, secure sheath: simply wrap a ranger band around the locking tab portion of the sheath. It increases the tension on the knife to the point that it doesn’t rattle and can be held upside down without dropping out even when shook. Frankly I’m surprised they don’t ship this way from fallkniven.

    It’s definitely a model 1 with a commando shaped handle. What you called a place to put your thumb, is actually a place for your index finger when you hold it in an edge up position. It’s what makes it a fighter.

  • @Xandrosi

    Recently bought one. Great knife steel and geometry, but terrible pocket clip. Because the handle is completely textured, including where the clip makes contact, it will tear up your pants pocket unless you gradually open the clip so that it doesn't attach aggressively. I've used folded paper to do this and it now works fine. To your point though, the clip would have been so much better if it deep carried. The handle texture and aggressive jimping makes using the knife for any period without gloves annoying. I'm also a fan of the Emerson wave design for rapid knife deployment. The thumb hole on the XR allowed me to attach a "mounting cable zip tie" through that hole that works perfectly like the Emerson wave. For this knife, I'd recommend it.

    The SRK was the go to knife with Swwedish soldiers in UN missions in the early 90s. It was also one of the knives conseidered as a replacement for the Mora knife the pilots used, but Fallkniven won that contract. So, your theory is backwards. SRK existed before F1 and A1. The S1 was initially planned for the Amphibious units/ Marines, but that contract was cancelled so they remodelled it as a "Forest knife". (S for skog, forest in swedish).

    • @user-lp9vl4bo3c
      @user-lp9vl4bo3c 19 วันที่ผ่านมา

      The SRK is great value but they a bit to expensive outside the US, but a Fällkniven isnt cheap anywhere! It makes a lot of sence that Soldiers and Conscripts go for the SRK. However, Fällkniven seems to be a popular choice among officers in the Swedish armed forces, guess it a question of paygrade. ;)
