When I say don't chase chops and find your own style.. I'm saying create your own patterns.... just write down patterns of L, R, K and work around. Challenge yourself AND get advanced chops while sound original 💯💯💯💯💯
Like saying the greatest guitarist. It's all taste. You can say greatest for certain type of music you like.
They for sure play metal
Too good
Then you should check out my other content ;)
Can you link the tiermaker for this? I’d like to try it myself :D
I like how is you made a tier for drummers you don't know. Listen to Rainbow. Cozy powell is the Goat. Also Chad Smith does session work for pop artists so he's not a one trick pony. He understands song structure better than anyone
Yes! Cool video. Sometimes I do top 10 or top 20 lists on my livestreams but I don’t have enough knowledge of the skins to rank drummers. I’d have put Dale Crover at the top! lol
When chops and groove make a compromise.. 😅 The one handed choke is so cocky lmao
🤡
🤨
It's hard to make funk as flashy as other genres but its groove shines above all 💯
Doesn't require crazy chops but feel is something Krupa outclassed all the jazz drum giants with 🎷🥁
ringo should be in goat
Thanks for putting yourself out there on this topic. I’d love to hear clips of each drummer while identifying the band they were in at the time, but it’s awesome that anyone dares enter this opinionated territory. Keep at it!!!!
Well its in my plain to talk about this because I'm apart of a new competitive drumming movement. Turning drum battles into a sport with shit-talk, announcers, commentary and championships. Me and my team call it "Sportdrumming," and we take all the smoke from people who believe its only subjective 😂 The video is 50/50 on its like and dislike ratio lmao. Appreciate the comment and hope I can earn your subscription with my drumming and commentary.
Dude, the mic audio wasn't bad for 10 seconds. It was horrible for 10 seonds and bad for 19min 59 seconds. If you really wanna do this, you NEED to upgrade the microphone. Other than that, gl with the channel. Content wasn't bad.
True but hard to invest for you when yall haven't invested in me. I know it works both ways. Also commentating isn't my only content. My gift is my drumming.
You down with Tommy Ramone or Marky Ramone? The clip you showed was Marky. I think Ringo and Lars should be bumped up for their contributions to the songs. It's easy to think Ringo just played straight back beats, but he did a lot of cool stuff that made the songs better. You could probably say as much about any drummer, but Ringo really did some unique stuff. Almost the same for Lars, who had a lot to do with the composition and arrangements. Clive Burr was amazing. Another one who added character to the songs. Some might say he just used cheap tricks, but he did them tastefully if so. Like The Number Of The Beast, a song I've heard hundreds of times over decades, but his isolated track reveals it has a kind of shuffle to it where he's double hitting the snare throughout and it sounds nothing like when other people play it.
Ringo is GOAT, if you don't believe, try playing his charts faithfully and see just how GOAT he is. He is STILL influencing drummers today.
🤡 Arguable best rock band doesn't mean best drummer
@@TonyDeanDrums Nothing to do with the beatles. Look at his ACTUAL charts, what he REALLY played. Some of his genius comes from being left handed, but his swing, his pocket is ALWAY right where it should be. Playing a sixlets across the set and cymbals at 280 bpm doesn't make you a great drummer, when EVERY NOTE THAT YOU DO PLAY has MEANING it makes you a great drummer. Neil Pert understood this, and while he played everything on his kit at time, every note meant something to the composition. If you don't understand the real genius of Ringo Starr I challenge you to play RECORD ACURATE charts at time without looking time or feel and THEN talk to me about just how good he is.. No knock on other drummers and percussionists, but REALLY tired of High School band guys and people who've never played professionally undervaluing someone this talented.
@@TNBadBoy Id bring him up to legendary but its hard to call him goat tier he just couldn't keep up with the drums before and after him.
More groove than the Groove father??!!! You are a bold one!
Easy!. Mr. Chick Webb buddy called him (The DADDY)
I think Bill Ward should be in the GOAT category but that’s just my opinopn
I’d have Jimmy Chamberlain this list as well as Matt Cameron. Megan White is better than “bad,” but it depends on what you’re ranking for. Jack White sounded best with her behind the kit, IMHO.
Idc about the rest of this list I’m just happy someone gave Carter his flowers. His ambidexterity alone is god-tier.
its simple, I see Neil Peart on a GOAT list, i like
Stewart Copeland should be in the goat tier. He was one of if not the most influential drummer of all time along with Neil. He brought reggae infused with rock to the light. Also nobody sounded like him not even close, you’ll know it’s him drumming after hearing only 1 second of his playing. And if this list is based on skill alone then put Carter 2nd or possibly even first
He is in the goat tier here, isn’t he?
@@pulykamell he put him in legendary
@@streetworkoutnation6851 I bumped him up to GOAT tier later in the video ;)
It is subjective. Completely subjective, however, I believe it’s Neil. 😂
Id almost bump dave grohl up one just because of how much of a influence his drumming had on the 90's in nirvana. Also songs for the deaf has some of the most primal rock drumming ive ever heard
Jeff Pocaro - RIP😢😢
There are death metal drummers no ones ever heard of that smoke all these dudes. But that brings up the definition of “best”. Is it groove or feel, think Stewart Copeland- is it chops, speed and technique (death metal guys)? Is it the ability to drive the band (buddy rich) or is it polyrhythmic shit that only musicians know about ? (Carey, Haake) or is it the composition of incredible parts for incredible songs- for one end of the spectrum Ringo or the other end Dave Grohl. And then you’ve got guys that do it all. And then you have people talking about how great Meg White is. What’s better? Skills or feel? Complexity vs simplicity? Is it playing exactly the right part for every song to improve the song?
I believe it is a combination of all. For chops and technique you can't forget about the jazz monsters. Some of them have more limb independence than an octopus. -- This points to the session drummers since most have advanced skill in all categories. But the best drummer of all time isn't going to have the best feel or the best chops but be the one to be the best overall. But I believe we will see the "GOAT" recognized in the next decade. With the accessibility and responsibility to learn all the genres and skillset from the internet and e-books. We will see somebody to end the debate ;)
@@TonyDeanDrums I think so. They’ve got some amazing young people out there, Greyson being one-
Bill Bruford
where the fuck is Bill Bruford?
I haven't done enough of a dig on him so I didn't feel like I had to authority to rank him. I probably should have mentioned that.
No Brian Downey? was it personal as to why he was not even in the bucket list?
He's on the list, just in the "don't know him/let's not make it 2 hours" category. Which seems fair. You can't rate somebody fairly if you don't know their work.
@@emmavaria i advise you check out Thin Lizzy then, one of the finest pioneering rock bands of the 70's and early 80's, Downey is awesome, you have a real treat waiting for you there.
Agree with everyone except one. I think Phil Collins is at least, Legendary.
True, but if I factored in legacy over skill than Ringo Starr would be the greatest rock drummer undisputed.
@@TonyDeanDrums listen to Nursery Cryme, Foxtrot, Selling England by the Pound and The Lamb Lies Down on Broadway. Maybe it will change your mind a little. Good vibes!
Wrong on Collins. He changed music in the 80s
True, but if I factored in legacy over skill than Ringo Starr would be the greatest rock drummer undisputed.
@@TonyDeanDrums not really because it was ringing start group not him. The category is rock drummers so I can see him not as a goat in rock but I just think he belongs in the category below . Now if it was a pop or just general music drummer you would have to put him inside🐐 because of his influence.
@@TonyDeanDrumsnaw, skill wise and music wise he’s in my top three with Copeland and Bonham. He’s wayyyyyy underrated in your list, but it’s subjective, I suppose.
@@TonyDeanDrumsso you mean you haven't listened to early Genesis. Unbelievable.
@@crov43 You guys have a point. Collins belongs in legendary. Thank you for the insight. 👍
Paulina Villarreal of the Warning, Drumeo Rock Drummer of the Year 2023, belongs in the upper tiers of this list.
I remembered that poll and the only drummer I really knew and cared for was Greyson. I primarily stuck to the older rock drummers which have a catalog of content to review. Drummers in the present day have so much more ahead, and its hard to rank them considering most of them are just getting started. How would you describe her playing? The best rock drummers combine Funk (Chad Smith), Latin (Stewart Copeland), Jazz (Steve Gadd), Fusion (Carter Beauford), Prog (Neil Peart) or Metal to their rock playing. From my experiences most to all the famous rock drummers in the present day don't genre blend like they used to. Which makes them all forgettable when their individualized from the band.
Bonham without question
Deantoni Parks
The professor?🤔
The one with the most skill is not nessesarily the best.
I agree with Greyson nekrutman on anything past Neil peart, but their definitely are skill group hierarchies
Needs more cowbell
I think an important note is that for the millions of drummers who have been on this planet, even if it’s subjective and “best at a style during a time”, whenever these debates come up we’re only consistently discussing the same 5-10, and almost always including Bonham, Portnoy, and Peart.
It's the same 15 guys reincarnating!
The answer is Mike portnoy
