From the October 1968 edition of Practical Motorist magazine. This was a Free Gift with the magazine - a vinyl flexi-disc record containing the sounds of common engine faults that owners could fix themselves (after reading the magazine!) Played on a Dansette Bermuda record player of the same era. Brought to you by The Cambridge-Oxford Owners Club www.co-oc.org

    The Somerset and the A40 just couldn't save Austin by the time of Farina's intervention. The Morris Minor and the new Mini along with the MG were faring much better.

  • @buckwheatINtheCity
    @buckwheatINtheCity ปีที่แล้ว

    If Pininfarina hadn't worked his magic, BMC would have been in financial difficulties by 1959 when Issigonis created the Mini. Prince Philip was the real push that moved Lord to do something radical and perhaps the earlier Suez Canal Crisis that sounded a wake up call to the motor industry of Great Britain.

  • @buckwheatINtheCity
    @buckwheatINtheCity ปีที่แล้ว

    The Farina design was a vast improvement over Lord's A55. Leonard Lord was a cheap skate who rationalized production to such an extent, he even killed of entire range of engines.

    I think we in the Cambridge-Oxford Owners Club are the only classic car club in the UK to have our own play. It was written to be performed at the 2005 Longbridge Centenary event and we revived it and performed it again at the 2009 event, Farina 50, celebrating the 50th-anniversary of the BMC Farina-designed cars. This is a film of that second performance. It was a great fun thing for the club to do although it was a massive logistical operation: we had to write a script, buy a car, acquire and paint all the panels, and make sure everyone knew what to do when by rehearsing in the corner of the field before the actual performance, sort out a PA, etc etc. It was great fun though and gave a different focus to the 2 events we performed it at. This was filmed before everyone had a mobile phone with a 4K camera on it so the quality is not great but it's worth watching just for Bob Metzner's performance as the Foreman. Watch to the end to see his final flourish. Enjoy! John.

    This is a wonderful video. I saw some well maintained British cars like Austin Cambridge A50, A55 & A60. Morris Oxford, Wolsley, Riley etc. of the 50's, 60's and early 70's era. Very good memories of a past era! I live in Sri Lanka and most of these car models in this video were seen here on our roads at that time. This reminded me of the Austin Cambridge cars my grandfather owned when he was living. He has bought only Austin cars during his lifetime and the last car he owned was a complete white colour Austin Cambridge A55 made in 1959, and which was brought here brand new through the local agent. He used it until he passed away in 1966. I remember him dearly. Fond memories! I am despaired to see very less amount of views and comments for this worthy video. I just like to mention here that this video is too short, and I like to request you to do a better, more elloborate, longer video on this same subject. Anyway thank you for this video! Sorry about the late comment.

    Great subject, poorly videoed. In 4 minutes 13 seconds we could have seen each car in detail by just walking down one row and back up the next. The style of video technique used was erratic, disturbing, disappointing and we actually got to see very little of any individual car. A real shame. Just a constructive observation but thank you for the video.

    BRING BACK ALL MORRIS CARS. LIKE MORRIS JE , LAUNCHED UNDER MORRIS COMMERCIAL. ALL MEMBERS HAVE TO TRY TO BRING BACK MORRIS IN THE MODERN-WORLD. GRADUALLY. FIRSTLY MORRIS MINOR ELECTRIC. THEN MORRIS OXFORD SERIES 2 AND 3 AKA HINDUSTAN AMBASSADOR AND LANDMASTER. AND THEN THE SERIES 4 FARINAS IN MODERN LOOK OR RETRO LOOK WITH ELECTRIC POWERTRAIN. OR DIESEL ENGINES. THINK OF IT. BRITISH MOTOR HERITAGE IS ONE SUCH COMPANY DOING THAT. IF BMH AND MORRIS COMMERCIAL HAVE JOINED. MORRIS CARS IS POSSIBLE. THANK YOU MEMBERS.
