Howdy Professor Gator, I guess it's been 45 days since I picked you up and you told me you had a You Tube channel. I haven't missed an episode since and there all good. Your on the half of the trail I missed back in 1981 and I'm really enjoying seeing it through your eyes so a big thank you to you. I've been noticing for the last couple of weeks how much weight you've lost so I'm not surprised about the pants. Your a lean, mean hiking machine now. Keep on trucking. Your buddy, Roelf
Thanks Roelf. Trying to keep the weight on the best that I can.
Good for you, taking a nero.
Xmas in almost July:) I’m loving all your videos. Thanks for sharing and safe travels!
Thank you! Hope you have the opportunity to hike the trail.
Very nice thing you do with thanking some one new each day.
I wish I was walking with you.
Hi Joel, day 3 was your 1st rain day. You seem to still be happy and moving on.
Joel, I have watched hundreds (maybe thousands of AT videos) yours are very good. I noticed your tent was pitched very taut on day two (you were rained on that night). I thinking you had that all figured out on your shakedowns.
Thanks. The shakedowns were really useful for figuring out the gear.
Hi Joel, After speaking with you and DF today (6-23-24), I have started watching your adventure. You are doing great so far.
Awesome! Thank you! Something to do while you’re healing up.
I wonder how the Whosethetonic river got it's name?
From Wikipedia: The river's name is derived from the Mohican phrase "usi-a-di-en-uk", translated as "beyond the mountain place" or "river of the mountain place".
That heat wave was all the up to Quebec!🥵
good scout word
Gotta love that Trail Magic! So when you stay in the shelter, are the mosquitoes bad? Do you just put on lots of bug spray or do you have a net?
Mosquitoes have not been bad at shelters. Gnats have been the problem at a couple sites. I have used a head net to keep them away from my face.
Bo is my type of trail hike
Wow! 500 miles! You’re doing great. Love the videos.
Thanks!
Let’s do it when you get back. A little hike won’t kill me. Keep pushing. Love you bro.
You got it!
Videos have been awesome look forward to them ever day! Has there been anything that you think you didn’t necessarily prepare for or you could’ve prepared for better?
The descents are still tough. Wish I had prepared better for them. That and the rocks. We have lots of roots on the trails in Florida, but few rocks.
Love the falls
Good morning ❤❤❤❤
Good morning!
Howdy Gator, Physically challenging and mentally kind of boring. It is just months of slogging while looking at your feet. Try downloading some interesting podcasts and listening to them as your walking along. I've done physical labor all my life and it helps me get through the day. Don't give up. Brad
Not giving up. I like listening to audiobooks while hiking.
You met my lovely friend, Squirrel 💗
NOBO Squirrel? From Maine? If so, she and Berlioz really helped me out back in New Jersey. My filter somehow fell out of my pack and they picked it up and got it back to me.
@@JoelHikesTheTrail Yes, Squirrel from Maine on the AT :) I don't know her friend Berlioz, as well. It sounds like Squirrel helping you.
awww thanks i am living vicariously thru you
No, thank you!
That is amazing, and your videos are well done! Keep on hiking!
Happy belated Birthday, Joel!
Thanks
Howdy Gator, You looked like a big orange hunchback of Notre Dame fame in that raingear. I hope it kept you dry. 11 miles through that mess is enough I think. Take care and keep on keepin on. Brad
Stayed relatively dry.
400 miles wow I have not driven my car that far in the past 30 days happy belatedbirthday
Awe, thanks. We love the videos and seeing your adventure. I was laughing when he told me you were crossing the highway. Thats pretty unreal. 😊
My pleasure Joel! We also know each other through our kids band! Band parents stick together! 😂
I was pretty sure there was the band connection, but wasn’t confident about it at the time. Jenn reminded me as well!
im still catching up or i may have missed it what is your trail name
Gator
Lol. I should have known that
Happy Birthday Gator. Glad you found a beer Bonanza on your special day and you had a new pal to celebrate with. Congrats on finishing New Jersey without getting squeezed by Tony Soprano and crew. Keep on getting on. Brad
Thank you!
🥳🥳Happy birthday Gator! Glad that you had a friend to celebrate a little bit 😊 and thank you for helping Bourbon with his med issues 😊
Thank you! No problem.
happy belated birthday
Thanks!
Sounds like it was a good birthday! Plus butter pecan is the best.
It was.
Welcome, sir! Hoping I can eventually meet up with you on the trail for a bit, but back just ain't there yet.
I hope so too! But don’t force it.
😖😶🌫️🤭
you know jealious is not a bad thing we are really inspired by you
Thanks Dave. It is challenging, but has met all my expectations thus far.
You are living the dream right now. Truly connected to the beauty and the land around you. Thank you for posting these videos. For me it's something that sounds so exciting and would love to experience. But I know I would not be able to do this. You are making so I can. I think it's simply magical. Also feet in the creek is always a ultimate relaxing and grounding experience. Plus I know it has to feel amazing for tied feet.
Thanks. That water was cold. I could only keep my feet in for a minute.
Yes you’re doing a great job and I really appreciate your videos for different reasons 😉! Thank you and happy trails! Keep safe!
Love the creekside camping spot. There is where I would want to be.
The sound of the water is soothing.
Thanks for showing your dinner - I'm always surprised how much trail food is "spicy". Seems like it could be challenging on the gut but I certainly get how boring meals (and life?) would be without some spice. :)
Sometimes the meals need some spice. I had a small bottle of sriracha for the first week or so. It ran out and I keep forgetting to buy another.
good morning yeah io got to be first to watch
😍 sharing a beer with a friend is always better than drinking alone! 🍻
absolument!
Congratulations on the completion of your second state.
Hi Gator! Jingles and I are back home in Sarasota, already missing the trail. We will head back to northern PA in the fall to continue our section hike. It was a pleasure meeting you and crossing paths so frequently and I’ve really enjoyed following along on your journey. Happy birthday to us! I have no doubt that your will complete this AT odyssey and that you will savor every second. Happy trails! Stevie Wander
Thanks Stevie. I totally forgot to wish you a happy birthday on the video, but I meant to. Hope all is well!
Lol it's a trail feature, not a bug 😂
So cute small falls and a fawn... Plus some yummy food
Thanks for these videos Gator! I’m Bourbon’s wife and it is great for me to see what the trail (the good and the bad sides of it all) looks like. I like the way you do your videos. I wish you all the best and happy trails!
I’m Gator’s wife and so glad they are able to hike some together ☺️
Merci! Bourbon is a great hiking companion.
@@jenniferberman7160 Hi Jennifer! So am I ! And Bourbon appreciates his company!
My flip was unexpected and unplanned. In the end it worked out awesome, it was almost like two different hikes. Part one 760 miles from Springer to the James river, Va. was crowded with many thru/hikers. Still, I learned to hike between the crowds. After a month long series of adventures in five states and Canada of “vacation from vacation”. Then 1400 ish miles from Me back to Va August to March. Best wishes in every step of your journey.
Howdy Gator, I always stick through to the end. It amazes this totally not tech savvy guy that you manage to put out such high quality videos on the trail. Your an interesting guy, the scenery is great and they even have good music to accompany them. I'd say the biggest difference between my hike and yours is a cell phone. I couldn't get weather reports, or learn about Mountain Momma when the tavern was closed or call for help if I did somehow know about her. They are a necessary piece of kit these days I guess. Glad your doing well. Keep on trucking, Brad
The phone, and particularly the FarOut app are so useful. I’m using the iMovie app to make the videos. Honestly, the app makes it pretty easy.
How is the body doin Joel? Feet, knees?
Knees are fine. Feet are sore. The trail is rough.
That creek sounds wonderful
