BHAJE BRAJEIKA MANDANAM:
In the Odissi tradition, the entrance of the dancer onstage is marked by
the practice of Mangalcharan. The blessings of the presiding deity, Lord
Jagannatha (Lord of the Universe), are invoked by the dancer for an
auspicious beginning. Following this, the dancer offers salutations to the
teacher and the musicians, as well as the audience. The central piece is
a prayer in praise of a Hindu deity.
“In the Traditional Training Path”
This Mangalcharan begins as an invocation and prayer to the Hindu Lord
Krishna.
This sloka depicts the embellishment of Brajapur with their idol, Lord
Krishna. Upon his banishment of evil, Brajapur is utterly ecstatic.
Always watching over his bhaktas, Lord Krishna saved Draupadi from
certain humiliation by extending her sari infinitely when the atrocious
Kuru brothers tried to disrobe her in the presence of the Kuru Sabha, as
well as turning the poison Meera Bai drank to nectar when the latter
chanted his name. Krishna has always been present to destroy evil and
to instill good. His bhaktas unfailingly become enlivened and enraptured
upon seeing his elegant rupa with his bansi, his peacock feather, and the
gomatas surrounding his presence. Through the ages, Lord Krishna has
been looked upon as a symbol of love, eternally bound to Radha.
With utmost praise we vow to him.

Will you please consider uploading all the 4 parts in one video?? It is really hectic to rewatch... I mean going back and forth is really troublesome. Also while transitioning between videos, TH-cam puts in a lot of advertisements. You guys are so phenomenal that you pull me into a trance, and I have to snap out it every time the video ends and an ad starts. Everytime this happens, It just hurts too much.

I know some people view themselves as part men and part woman. And their opinions of themselves must be respected above all in their company. For them, they are both. But because women still are relatively downtrodden and persecuted, even if it's just that cheat of a husband who takes the money she earns to screw around with someone she doesn't know, the job she can't get past a certain age, that abortion she can't get, the headscarf she has to wear or be killed, their opinion doesn't hold water in all circumstances. The music for this piece is by Pandit Bhubaneswar Misra (the first stanza only) and Pandit Raghunath Panigrahi. The magnificent nritta bits are composed by my Guru Padma Vibhushan Kelucharan Mohapatra. This item was composed for Sanjukta Panigrahi in 1979 (September, to be precise), in Guruji's Samanta Sahi residence. I was present the very evening the first stanza of the music was composed, by Bhubaneswar Sir. Guruji was composing another rather magnificent 45-minute piece for me. It's imperative that credit is given to the musicians and the Guru. That's the law. It is another matter that there's an element called artistic 'integrity" - where we don't simply take dance pieces choreographed by the greatest of Gurus and do with them as we please. We may not tamper with Guru Kelucharan Mohapatra's choreography. The field of sahitya and music are limitless. If we want to choreograph "Ardhanareeshwara," and not seriously violate Guru Kelucharan Mohapatra's choreography, we might certainly ask any Odissi musician to compose the music and nritta bits afresh for us.
