Misty with fine drizzle for a ride out to Pugneys Cafe for lunch. A few diversions for roadworks and Greenway repairs - although we did blag our way through the Dalton Bank Rd closure. Some interesting twists and turns thanks to Phil's route planning.

Great video guys ❤
Thank you - just thankful to be still enjoying cycling at 76
I was on part of this route today, can’t beat the scenery.
Great coverage of your trip through Noord-Holland. Texel as you already know is part of Noord-Holland. My wife and I did a tour through Holland from the 8th of June till June the 28th. We did a Holland tour starting a our home in Amsterdam, we went through Texel, Vlieland, Harlingen, Leeuwarden, Groningen, up to the border of Germany and then via the velurback to Amsterdam. We had two weeks of cold rainy and windy weather and the last week with 30 degrees Celsius.
@@janwillemfransens1177 Thanks for your comments - we're planning to cycle tour the east Netherlands next year 😀
I'm a real novice in my 60s and it took me 3 hours and 5 mins to complete the circular route today.
That's really helpful info, Grace. I'm thinking of riding round the Water next week and it's useful to know how long it took you. Great video @ianrod3 as someone who's never visited before it's good to get an idea of the terrain.

Looks almost romanticiest but No is is NOT....i love my NoordHolland...😅❤
We love North Holland too 😊
I like your video but the music is way too loud
Glad you liked video - sound levels were not as intended
Nice vid, thanks and greetings from Texel.
Thank you - we loved our stay in Texel 😃
You passed our house in Medemblik! Thanks for the film! Next time have a coffee!
We found Medemblik a delightful place - you are very fortunate to live there. Thanks for the invitation 🤣
What a great video! I have cycle toured in NL a number of times, so this brought back some nice memories 😄I am glad to see you used Vrienden op de Fiets - I think it's a wonderful organisation, and I've met so many lovely hosts through using them. I have even ended up good friends with the family who hosted me in Arnhem a couple of years ago!
Thank you - Vrienden op de Fiets hosts really made our holiday tour very special - each very different and each delightful.
15:10 I grew up in that suburb of Hoorn. That dude is always riding those types of bikes around, has been for 2 decades lol
Saw a few recumbents and trikes - but this was very distinctive 😊
Very nice video! Very irritating music!
Thank you - sorry about the music 🎶
@@ianrod3don't be, the music fitts the trip very well. Liked it very much !
Thank you, glad you enjoyed it - appreciate your views on music choice
Den Helder is the base of the Dutch Royal Navy (Koninklijke Marine). There’s a rich history but also tragic for the inhabitants as you can imagine as a naval base during WW2. But the city recovered and lots of improvements are still being made to this day. Glad you enjoyed visiting!
Very nice video, I'm from the southern part of Holland, so I've never ridden a bike in North-Holland, but it looks about the same :)
We've done 3 tours in the Netherlands - from Belgium border - Zeeland - South Holland - North Holland and Texel. We've always found something new and fresh 😊
Looks like you had an amazing time. I am glad you enjoyed the hospitality and sights as much as you did, despite the winds.
We had a great time - probably the best of our our three tours in the Netherlands. 😊
Well done !!
Thank you - we had an amazing time 😊
@@ianrod3 I specialy liked the way you pronounced some of names of places. (Eggmond lol) When I was young I did a lot of cycling, also in England and Scottland. Great memory's. Greetings.
Thank you - pronunciation not my best skill 🤣
Cocks dorp 😂
Poor soul. I hope you had some rare period of less wind. 😂 Personally I rather ride uphill than against the wind. I once rode a race in Scheemda Groningen. 60+ km/h with the wind and then struggling to get above 25+ km/h against the wind. It was carnage and I was out of contention in 15 minutes. The music is hilarious! 👍
We were prepared for the rain and wind 🌬️ - so we just enjoyed it 😂. The sunshine was a bonus! The best highlights were the people we met
And? Impressed by the amount of Wind Turbines??
The music is a bit much at times!😂
Pirates of the Caribbean! 😁
Had the impression I was watching an Efteling documentary at times due to the music 🙈
Very poor choice of music. It's a video about a relaxing bike trip through the countryside, not some kind of heroic pirate video game.
Don't agree here, the music has a nordic touch to it and gives a historic feeling during the trip. (The pentatonic music-scale was also used in these area's, in the times of Jheronymus Bosch and Pieter Breughel....)
Thanks for your comment. I chose music which had pace and rhythm and a celtic/Scandinavian feel - as an expression of the joy we felt cycling around Holland and Texel. I'm not bothered by critical or negative views about my music choices - at 76 years old I'm grateful to have the health and desire for adventure and discovery. I will continue to enjoy the journey. 🤣👍
Very well done!!
Thank you very much!
Greetings from Rustenburg.
Thanks - Rustenburg was a delightful overnight stop and local restaurant "Golden Carp" (in English) was very good 😊
A little correctie Texel is not a Fries but a Nord Holland eiland i like this video I live in Den Helder and work on Texel so I take the boot every day
Thank you - I accept your point about Texel being part of North Holland. However, it is also part of the Wadden Sea island archipelago. It would have been better if I had identified it as the largest of the western Wadden islands. Den Helder is lovely place - we had planned to explore the area on our return from Texel but the rain and wind 🌬️ led to a change of plan. Maybe next time
In this case, Frisian refers to the ancient region not the current province. In English, the term "Frisian Islands" is more common for the entire chain of islands up until the Danish border. It's what the Wikipedia page is called. "Wadden islands" is less common. It's confusion caused by use of an exonym instead of an endonym. Technically the Dutch islands are called West Frisian Islands, even though they have nothing to do with the current region of West-Friesland.
I must admire your courage. You probably chose one of the windiest routes in the Netherlands.
Windy sure, but it felt invigorating 😂
Did you have a giggle over “Cocksdorp”? 😜
Haha 😂
Really great video! Nice camera work, informative voice overs and a very good representation of what it is like to do such bicycle tours in the Netherlands. My only criticism: I found the music a bit overbearing, in volume and in style but for the rest I relly enjoyed it.
Glad you enjoyed it!
Lovely trip, i should have visited that provincie (NH) at 50 yo, by now. But i live in (NB) in the South, still kronkelroutes and knooppunt routes to explore over here. Highly recommend visiting. Well one of these days, Thanx for uploading.
Thanks for your comments
Nice video,tx, just 1 correction... texel isnot frisian ... it is part of north holland province
Ok, thanks
@@ianrod3 Yeah, it still is a bit important after 150 years of genocidal wars in the middle ages between the people in the north of Holland (West Frisians) and the Hollanders. The Netherlands did not exist yet at the time. You biked through a medeival war zone. After most young west Frisian men were killed, they finally had to surrender.
The Netherlands before the 80years-war was already, though part of the holy roman empire a cultural and linguistic entity (including what is now Belgium) West-frisia and frisians was already a thing before the middle-ages when frisians also invaded England....
Wonderful travel guide, thank you.
Glad you enjoyed it!
Very nice bicycle tour 👍😊 You missed the cheesemarket in Alkmaar 😉
Next time!
Thanks for the film, very enjoyable. I'm thinking of using Vrienden op de diets next year - were you able to book accommodation with them before you departed for the trip? Thanks.
Hi, we booked in late Feb for the June tour. If you're in the UK membership is 10€ per year and membership runs from Jan to Dec. Membership gives access to the directory

Hi ❤❤❤ ...
I really enjoyed your trip ❤❤❤...
Glad you enjoyed it!
Think I’ll be trying this route out soon! Thanks for sharing
That looked brilliant. Is it a regular event
hi, it's held every year - I think it may be fully booked for this year - check thejocoxway.org.uk/jcw2024/
well done . cycled some of them roads myself. I'm from Rotherham
Hi, moved to Huddersfield 11 years ago - some great cycling country - reckon on 1000 ft of ascent every 10 miles!
Thanks for charing. In about 2 months I'll follow this route. Looking forward to it.
Hi, we're going to do this ride next weekend. How many hours did it take you to complete the route?
That looked nowhere near 1.5 metres at 3:49. Not sure it was 1.5 feet.
40 miles especially with all the hills. Phew! Lovely video especially as it's localish to me.......just 4 miles from the start.
great video & glad you liked it here and hope you will come back For your next trip try the eastern part of the Netherlands and enjoy beautiful forests, hansatowns like Deventer and ww2 heritage around Arnhem.
Well done, Ian. I completed the route last week and thoroughly enjoyed it, albeit a bit wet on the second day.
Very good, looking forward to our trip here in September
Thanks, hope you have a great time in September and the weather holds good!
De Zaanse Schans, my daughter works there.
Don't really need the cycling helmets in car free zones or low speed cycling.
what are the odds to encounter a major storm on your bike trip? :-( Luckily you had a bit of a tailwind on the Oosterscheldekering where the annual Dutch Headwind Cycling Championships are held th-cam.com/video/ht6L42RZDyk/w-d-xo.html
Really enjoyed your video. I'd like to do something similar this year so I'm partuclarly interested to find out about the tools you used to plan and how you found the accommodation .
Glad you enjoyed it. For route planning I used the Netherlands cycle nodes planner at www.fietsknoop.nl/fietsroute-planner. For accommodation I joined Vrienden op de Fiets (friends on the bicycle) at www.vriendenopdefiets.nl/en/ - this costs 10 euros per calendar year. Hope this helps
What a lovely way to honour her memory!
Thank you
What a lovely video, not much luck with the weather but had a great time in any case. We lived in Netherlands in early 1990s and loved cycling around. I can't wait to get back over there now.
You where in the village I was borne , Kinderdijk , and where I live, Krimpen aan den IJssel .
