    • @paulcunneen3519

I had to cut off my reply because I didn't have more time and I DON'T wanna be like the person I responded to by dumping my little negative opinion turd on the internet and somehow feeling I have contributed something to civilization. Its perfectly alright to be critical but if it comes down to "I feel X" and nothing else, then what's the point? Why should we waste seconds out of our existence paying attention to your randomly expressed feelings not backed up by any reasoning when we don't know you or care about you and never will. You need to have some argument and give it evidence for your opinion to be to be seen as worthwhile and convince anyone you're views are correct. If you're not trying to do that then I don't understand why you'd waste you're time commenting; I'm sure you have other things to do than comment on a song you don't like. Add something to our understanding of the song or don't bother! The world DOES NOT need more people flinging their opinionated turds around; the internet is overrun with them and it's ruining our society. Anyway, I have always felt I Need You was a nice song and was delighted to see someone finally do a video essay about it. I had never heard before that Lennon had worked with George on the song and I think that may explain to me why I always found it so "Lennon-McCartneyish". We don't know exactly John's contribution but even if he only said "This is fine but you need to explain this more in the lyric or make this part of the song more musically interesting" (which was sometimes the role John & Paul played for each other) then he would have helped George a LOT make this a better song than I like You Like Too Much which IS pretty lame, I'm afraid I find I Need You a nice little song -certainly not a great one, that has a lovely melody, a beautiful warm sound and a well-expressed earnest lyric. When I had my first crush on a girl in junior high school and I was afraid to tell her about it, this is pretty much how I felt. It is a declaration of affection and vulnerability that most young men are ashamed to admit. From what I have read of George had a disarming sweetness and honesty which could charm people. He often played the part of the "earnest little brother" in the early Beatles. So John gave George his songs that he himself didn't want to be seen singing because he saw them saw them as too "soft" like Do You Want To Know a Secret? and I'm Happy Just to Dance with You". Both George and John could be sweet, sensitive boyfriends who wrote sappy love notes to their girls according to their early girlfriend's accounts. (I hope John's 1st girlfriend Barbara Baker finally makes some of Lennon's old mosh notes public so we can see them for ourselves. (Unfortunately, Cynthia destroyed most of hers when he dumped her for Yoko). The guys never wanted to discuss this because they followed a macho code of manliness in which expressing softer feelings was frowned on. Vi Caldwell (George's 1st girlfriend ) has told about how he spent 1-2 years of their relationship coming over to her house to cuddle, kiss and watch TV. Now, both of these guys were happy to get to Hamburg and become omnivorous sex maniacs but, nonetheless, that was not all that they were or they'd never have been able to write all those great love songs. Anyway, I Need You tells its earnest little plea in a clear and straightforward manner and is helped by the intriguing sound of the guitar volume pedal used in the instrumentation and some typically lovely Lennon-McCartney harmonies typical of the Help album. So is this only my opinion? Well, Lennon obviously felt it worth his time helping George and the production sounds like a bit of effort went into it, unlike a lot of the early Harrison songs which were rush jobs at the end of the day. Tom Petty liked it enough to perform it at The Concert for George, with, I assume, Dhani and Olivia's blessing which probably means George himself remembered the song fondly so I know I'm not alone. I see I Need You as the beginning of the process of George developing his songwriting, whic becomes much more creative and sophisticated in 1965-66. If it pales next to Lennon-Mcartneys finest I will point out yeah, they were an amazing team operating at a superhuman level. Bob Dylan told George he was a good songwriter and that he, Bob-Freakin'-Dylan would have had a hard time getting HIS songs on some Beatles albums! If you make a playlist of just Georges' Beatles songs you'll get to realize how good many of them are. George's early songs are like the Appalachian mountains but Lennon-Mcartney are like the Himilayas, they overshadow everything else!

@@nasserhafes3021 Dear Sir, You did not agree, you disagreed ; they are different and you did so in an unhelpful manner that I compared to leaving a turd on the internet. No one asked for your opinion; you volunteered it and need to be able to defend it not just vomit out feelings. This is youtube not an online group of your friends who will back up any half- baked idea that comes out of you. "Everyone knows" is an idiotic thing to say: If true why do you bother stating the obvious? But obviously its not true as I clearly disagree with you as do others I have cited so why do you say it? Do you mean I usually only engage with people who agree with me? Well, welcome to the world in which there are at laest 1 BILLION BEATLEMANIACS. And we can cite evidence and make arguments!
