There is no boat traffic on the backwater. If you plan to fish this water, we recommend that you take a preliminary walk along its full length. Trust us when we say it’ll prove to be time well spent. Warning! This fishery is not suited t...

A beautifully preserved stretch of the Thames with plenty of features to fish to. You can expect to have excellent fishing for Chub, Roach, Bream, Perch, and Pike here. Barbel and Carp have also been caught from this stretch but they require a large amount of luck or commitment to locate. Access to the river is from Sandford Lane Kennington riverside car park. มุมมอง 1.3Kปีที่แล้ว
This section of the Thames sits between our Bablock Hythe and Pinkhill stretches, around the western side of Farmoor Reservoir. It produces decent match weights of predominately roach, bream and perch but also provides some good chub fishing with plenty of near bank cover to fish to. Specimen sized pike and perch are also a possibility from this stretch. For more information about the Abingdon ...
AOAA River Thames - Franklin’s Meadow
มุมมอง 786ปีที่แล้ว
A short video to show access to our club stretch of the River Thames at Franklin's Meadow. This is an idyllic and quiet stretch of the Thames. It holds good Roach, Chub, Perch, Pike, and Bream. There are a number of large bends and deeper holes on this stretch. Additional swims tend to open up in winter as boats leave the area and as the prolific weed beds of the summertime die back. For more i...

Today we had a very welcome visit from Gary Hagues from IG Fisheries with the new fish that we purchased to replace fish that we sadly lost over the last year through the spawning period. Situated in Cassington near Witney, Malborough pool joined the body of waters managed by the A&OAA in 1948. What do you mean? I don’t understand your comment
Can you night fish?
A great promotional video for the club, I hope that it was successful in recruiting new members. I used to fish that part of the Thames a lot back in the 1950s when most of it was free fishing. A great roach fishing area, I caught three 2lb roach from there back then. Any about nowadays? It would have been better if you showed us someone actually fishing.
Takes me back to my youth when I fished the river Roding , Essex. Thanks for sharing and bringing back the memories
Spent many hours down there in my youth, great memories of chasing Thames Chub. So tempted to join the alliance and have a winter campaign down there . Thanks for the walk through 👍
Great video mate really enjoyed it keep them coming 👍 some cracking pike there mate
what about disabled anglers? They need cut out swims
Nice vid! I got a 10lbs 10oz pike out of there in November on a lure.
Nice fish! Did you get a photo that you could share on our Facebook page?
@@abingdonandoxfordanglingal6764 ok i will do that
Can you fish this on a day ticket?
We don’t do day tickets but our standard ticket is only £45 and gives you access to all the stretches of the Thames, Cherwell and Evenlode that are featured on this TH-cam channel
My favourite stretch on my Thames Lock and Weir permit with good parking and the fish mentioned especially the Roach and Chub
Nice stretch mate but at 68 my fishing is for pleasure… that’s an assault course 😢😊😊
looks like some working parties are required to get the access cleared to make it easier for all
Nooo keep it nice and natural! this country has already been ruined and cut down enough 😉
lovely looking stretch
I think I have now caught all of the new fish.. please can we have some more 🙂
Sad that all of these venues are polluted and have little life left in them, you can thank thames water for that,20 odd yrs ago these reaches of river were crystal clear full of weed and fish, stonger flows.no signal crayfish or otters but they had to keep medling, now look.
Thanks for taking the time to watch the video and to comment on it. The river was recovering from a period of flooding when this was filmed. The flow was fine but it does certainly also suffer from sewage being released into it upstream of this stretch at times. Sadly it’s subjected to the same problems that pretty much all rivers in the UK are subjected to. However, it does provide a home for many different fish species regardless of this and we have had reports from our members of barbel in the last year or so coming out of the stretch, brown trout are often caught by anglers using worms or maggots and in the last few days a couple of anglers have reported good catches of chub to over 5lb so all is not lost and it can indeed be a productive stretch on the right day for our members.
30 years ago I had a short campaign after roach here. Caught fish to 12ozs + chub. It was hard work then and I would imagine things haven’t got any easier since.
What's wrong with that river, it looks a very strange colour and virtually zero flow

Bream, roach, chub and pike. Occasional barbel

Love watching these videos can you do one in abingdon
Thanks for the feedback. Our club (AOAA) doesn’t own the rights to fish the Thames through Abingdon town. If you are a resident of the town you can apply for a free ticket to fish through the town or if you are not a resident but want to fish the stretch you can purchase tickets from the town council website at www.abingdon.gov.uk/town-council/town-council-services/fisheries
@@mrpaulcake thank you I live in Abingdon I fish alot we have some lovely spots with some cracking fish but it's definitely been in decline the last few years way to many boats on the Abingdon stretch just small hire boats mainly, the problem is they are destroying the banks with there speeding but the worse culprits are the instructors of the rowing clubs they tear up and down the river in there little plastic ....I don't even know what those things are called lol anyway our banks are in a terrible state we have lost five trees to the banks eroding in maybe 5 years and that's just the a tiny stretch at the back of Abingdon marina sorry about the rant I don't like complaining but it's a issue that needs addressing would you know who to contact about it?
@@nigeisfree7837I’m not too sure. Probably the Environment Agency should be your first place to try though as they police the misuse of boats on the Thames.
Thanks really enjoyed a mooch down the Thames.
Why am I watching this?
Thanks Paul, a very informative video.
Being a new member these are really helpful, thanks Paul 👍 Mark Lamb
Thanks Steve. Blood, sweat and very close to tears cutting back the nettles and brambles to clear a path to the first few swims the other day so happy to hear that it’s all worthwhile
Thanks Paul, These videos are very helpful. Many thanks for taking the time to produce them.
Thank you for doing these videos, they are really informative. Would you please be able to do one for Duxford, Thanks.
Hi Steve, yes. It’s on my list of things to do. Videos of Duxford and Evenlode north of the A40 still to come plus one for the AOAA trout lake. All will be posted on the AOAA TH-cam channel as I get them done.
Great, Thanks Paul
Can I fish this venue , I have a rod licence, do i have to be a member of a club
Hi - you have to be a member of the Abingdon & Oxford Anglers Alliance (AOAA) to fish this stretch of river. More info at allianceao.co.uk/product/course-fishing-permit-adult/
I agree with the other comment I live 37 miles away is the membership open to people who live far away but these videos really make me want to fish the Thames next season. Do you sell half season memberships? Thanks
Hi - we don't do half season tickets but the day ticket that gives access to all of our river stretches plus day only access to Marlborough Pool and Dorchester Lake is only £40 and the current season runs until 31st March. More info from allianceao.co.uk/shop/
Thanks these are really useful. It can be a bit daunting otherwise. I have already tried the triangle as a result of seeing the video.
Great to hear that you are finding the videos useful 👍🏻
Didnt realise you still have this stretch. At the top end looks like it should have barbel but never caught anything decent near the rollers. Further downstream was great chub fishing though.
Here was me jumping over all these gates! 🤣🤣
you are not the only one that has said that to me since seeing this video! 😃
Did your mate say "dirty Bream". Hope you look after dirty Bream when you catch them.
Very important ? th-cam.com/video/aJgo9g6RR6Q/w-d-xo.html
Good Video, as I have just joined the club, I found the video very informative I noticed that you shot it in 2019 and the water levels are low then. I see as I walk round the lake yesterday the water levels are low, obviously due to low rainfall and heat. I found it to be quite a beautiful lake and the abundance of wildlife, I look forward to fishing the lake.
It’s a spring fed lake and does drop down quite a bit during dry summers but then does also tend to fill up again in Autumn/Winter. Still fishes well through dry summers but it does affect the number of swims worth fishing as some are currently less than two feet deep. Fish still coming out around the lake though. Hope you enjoy the lake and get amongst some fish
I joined the alliance a few weeks back- looking forward to getting down there over the next few weeks- thanks for the tips 👍
